Dude, Centurions was the $#¡+ ! Completely underrated. We actually had all 3 figures, and it was a good Christmas when we got Sky Knight, Wild Weasel, AND Tidal Wave! 🙂
This 2 season show had the most serious story lines which you didn't appreciate until you got older. One of the rare intelligent western animated series for children. produced in the 80s
Eli Alivar no kidding,I saw the show in the early 90s and to be honest...it wasn't(at least what I remember)a bad show and a modern remake would be quite nice.
Don't forget Jack 'the King' Kirby help develop the Centurions. I remember when it first aired. One of my all time favourite cartoon. Hope it comes back some day in one form or another.
As a kid I always liked Jake Rockwell! He was the Rugged Land Operations Specialist. I'll never forget the tag line voice over at the end "Man and Machine! Power Extreme!"
I wasn’t born till 89, however I watched this show all the time on boomerang or whatever it might of been called in the early 90s. It’s to bad the show couldn’t be revived.
@@andrewquick4176 Serioulsy? I mean, I'm sure you're right, but my local TV station played maybe 6, tops, in rotation. I liked them the first three times I saw them, but lost interest entirely when they seemingly had nothing new on offer. I'll be damned. 65 you say? Does that mean that Rocket Robin Hood also had more than a half-dozen episodes? Because I can still damned near quote the "Friar Tuck" biography word-for-word almost 40 years later.
I grew up in the '90s and early 2000s, but caught reruns of this show on TV as a kid. I thought it was awesome. Alongside the old Transformers reruns I used to watch, I count this as the reason I now love '80s toys and cartoons so much. I'm fully aware that this probably makes me the only person on the planet to consider themself a fan of The Centurions despite not actually having been alive when it was around, but I'll own that.
I FUCKING LOVED THIS SHOW AS A KID and still do. This could be a huge franchise. Don’t know who owns the rights but I want a TRANSFORMERS, MASK AND CENTURIONS shared universe (not GI Joe tho... no one liked that outside of the US)
I think I pretended to turn into that bike in my lounge room about a thousand times 😂. Mostly as a kid when the cartoon was on (and maybe a few times as an adult). Loved it.
I remember seeing this on Cartoon Network as a kid. Was so cool ☺️ I could never find the toys till we finally had a Toy’s R Us years later but never bought them sadly. I forgot it was called Centurions though 😂
I would love to see this show make a comeback. It was one of favorites when I was little kid. With how advanced technology as become in today's age I think this show could thrive.
Fun Fact: Had the second year of toys been released, Kenner were considering adding a new 6th member to the Centurion team named Vic McCloud who would have been Ace's previously unmentioned brother and would have been a space specialist.
Me too, I remember hunting for the toys like crazy at antique shops and garage sales lol. I remember buying some used beat up ones from ebay and the excitement of riding my bike to buy a money order and mail it in back before PayPal was a thing lol they arrived on my birthday and I was so happy to get then. Ace had a broken thumb but I was to happy to care
Holy moly!!! What a blast from the past. I remember talking about these toys with a colleague about 5 years ago and wracked my brain and searched google to try and figure out what they were called! Now I know!!! I just have to try and remember the colleague I was talking to at the time so i can also enlighten them! Great vids btw. Oh to be a child again in the golden age of toys - Star Wars, mask, GI Joe, he-man, and of course centurion!!!!
These were great, I liked the concept of interchangeable weapons and the size of the figures was an attraction. Unfortunately the cost was too high. Once you bought the figures you of course wanted to buy the add on weaponry packs, and it all just became too much unless you really wanted to devote yourself to one toy line
They get pricey yes, but that's why it seems that similar lines coming out in Japan in recent times with the same concept are targeted at an older audience, i.e. the ones with the money to burn for those, and so far they've been very successful over there.
@@StrikeNoir105E succesful but niche, at the time the kind of money lines at their prime like GI JOE, Star Wars and MOTU where moving was stratospheric and adult collectors didnt really exist.
Centurions along with the real ghostbusters was my favourite cartoon growing up in the 80's. Never saw the toys though until a few years ago on ebay. Didn't even know they existed but would have definitely picked them up in the 80's if i did.
I really never was a big fan of Centurions. But I liked it. Its was produced by Ruby Spears and they did a great job. Great animation quality and lots of action. A true 80s classic.
My first exposure to Centurions was seeing a friend of mine with the McCloud toy. It looked so awesome to me that I asked my parents for one, and eventually got it. I loved the gimmick, and I think these could be rolled right into the GI Joe collective universe too, with the right planning. The show was fun, but the toys were the bigger hit for me. Of course, all those little add-ons and missiles would get lost so easily, but it was all still a lot of fun at the time.
Once again you've given me an awesome case of childhood memories. The cartoon was awesome, as were the figures. I had Max Ray. Would love to see an update cartoon or even a movie.
Someone liked this comment apparently. I didn't continue watching it after I got out of the hospital and ask my mom for any of the toys. It was 1987 when I was watching the cartoon for a few days. Take care and God bless
Lucky! Most of the time during my diabetes diagnosis, about the only thing on was about Michael Jackson's illegal business. But you have my blessing. I got type 1.
Derik Penman Well I have the same type I, and this was in 1987. I was more interested in Gobots and Transformers and only watched this on TV a little, and it was also the only time I watched Escape from Alcatraz with Clint Eastwood. Take care and God bless
Huh, small world. But okay, that'd make it different. Though usually if a news report darken the set in my hospital room, I just changed it to something like Courage the Cowardly Dog or a 70's SNL.
"Hey, that dog didn't put missile launchers on HIMSELF!" I'm freaking dying! PAWSable deniability. I also loved that it was designed by three legendary artists/creators- Gil Kane (defined the Silver Age Green Lantern & Atom), Doug Wildey (Johnny Quest), and Jack the King Kirby!
I believe I discovered Centurions on the toy aisle first, and the toys were awesome. Somehow, Centurions was the toyline I had the most of (and managed to keep what I had). I know I watched the cartoon, but I'm pretty sure it was after I got my first Centurion toy (Max Ray, the underwater guy, green exoframe)
Orbet...orbati...ord...oh FUDGE!!!!😡 One of my favorite toy lines...I miss my Ace McCloud 😢...someday I'll tell the tragic story of what happened to my toys...😢 Great video guys! 👍🏽✌🏽
I have basically this entire line, saving it all for my children from the mid 80s (my mom was more generous... J/K she found most of it in a clearance bin). This was probably my favorite toy line after the transformers. Once my son turned 6 I gave him the toys... He was pretty underwhelmed except for the ability of Max to shoot shark missles. He's pretty much destroyed them at this point
Loved Ace’s voice Neil Ross. When I first saw the 86 transformers movie and heard Springer talk I immediately thought of Ace from centurions...excellent.
If they did a live action Centurions film, they can consider casting: Max Ray: Robert Downey Jr. Ace McCloud: Bradley Cooper Jake Rockwell: Liam Neeson Crystal Kane: Scarlett Johansson Doc Terror: Tommy Lee Jones Hacker: Tom Hardy
Haha! I too always imagined Bradley Cooper as Ace McCloud! Here's my casting wish: Max Ray: Will Ferrell Ace McCloud: Bradley Cooper Jake Rockwell: Adam Sandler Crystal Kane: Jessica Alba Doc Terror: Clint Eastwood Hacker: Michael Chiklis
What about UPN's Arthur and the Knights of Justice. I loved the concept and hate that we never get closure on anything we enjoyed story wise because of poor toy sales.
As far as I know this toy line never reached my country but my family has satellite TV when I was a kid and I remember catching a few episodes of the show.
Ace Mccloud was my dude had the figure when I was little but sadly only the add on set he came with and the space set I think the set he came with was called sky night but can't remember the space one
Now that Netflix is throwing up all kinds of series, they ought to make some movie pilots for various 80s cartoons, including Centurions. That would be a great way to capitalize off nostalgia.
When cartoon Network first started they aired this show all the time and that is how I was exposed to it. However since this was the mid 90s I could not get the toys and my brother didn't collect the line, he was more of a M.A.S.K. kid, so I never had any of them. :( I probably would have wanted Jake, because he had the most systems and thus the most stuff to swap around.
I’m not sure how much I knew about the line or the show but there was an “under water guy” and I loved the idea of the interchangeable parts! These figures were very durable with stiff joints and heavy duty plastics. They need to relaunch this exact line, with maybe a few more points of articulation!
please someone recommend “The Centurions” animated be in a live action series to Michael Bay director of “the transformers”. this will be more suspense action than autobots
I’m 44, watching from the UK and your brutal cynicism has me in stitches!!! I’ve realised the past few years that my nostalgia was actually an anchor and watching videos like this helps me to ‘snap out of it’ and see it for what it truly is. 😠😔🙏🏿💜
Yeah Buddy! Loved Centurions when I was little. I had Ace, Jake and Hacker but never got Max or Doc Terror. Had a bunch of the extra sets too for Ace & Jake. Really cool toys for the time. Been working on a set of customs myself.
