Solid state batteries could interest other tool manufacturers, if for no other reason, than not having to pay Milwaukee licensing fees.

Back when they made stuff to last. I guarantee that first Milwaukee 3/8 hole shooter would still be going strong today if anyone had one and took even the smallest amount of care of it.

Janes Fair I clean up and fix old tools, as a hobby. I’ve cleaned up similar power tools the 3/8” hole shooter. Most of the time the bearings just need a little grease and a new cord put on.

I don't have a Milwaukee but I DO have my grandpas old Black and Decker 3/8" drill and 7 1/4" circular saw. I don't use them but both still work. I'm 52 years old and these tools are older than me. The cast aluminum housings polish up nicely and they look good sitting on a shelf in my shop.

Darn, was kind'a hoping you'd mention that the first electric drill consisted of the worker caveman with the rock getting slapped on the back by the supervisor caveman with an electric eel to speed him up. Later, that was replaced by a standard hand drill and a cattle prod. =)

I love “history of” videos and there aren’t many on electric power tools, they aren’t look at like computers or cars but imo as a carpenter, more fascinating and important than the other tech that’s come out in past 120 years, as these literally built our modern world, and grant the everyday layman to be able to do the same. Thank you for making this series.

@ 12:44 graphene infused lithium has its benefit of more power out and faster charging with less heat. This could also be a negative as more power out might equate to less run time unless its geared better, it will have to be a fine balance between power consumption and gearing to show that power in the tool. 21700 cells will increase the density of the power packed into the cell, same power out as current 18650 but with longer run times. Also longer charging times unless too manufactures start “Amping” up the chargers. Solid state batteries will be a game changer, but it might be 8 years before we see a solid state cell affordable and able to put out the power needed for cordless tools? As for smart tools, I dont want an LCD that will crack the first time I drop a tool, lol. PS that mikita drill brought me back, its all I saw on sites mid to late 80’s when I also got stated.

The only time I use my drill at work is of I need to use 2 drill bits at the same time. I will have a 3/8s bit in my impact driver and the unibit in my drill. I also use my drill if I am using a hole saw. That is about it. I have a whole index of impact bits

One thing I would like to see is interchangable and modular tools which can convert to more than one tool. Like for example, a shopsmith but with more compactness and features. I would like to see a mitre saw with a small jobsite table ontop that uses the blade as both a mitre and table saw. This are prevalent in europe and aren't available in the north american market, but would make a big difference in versatility. It also would be just cooler to be able to switch one tool to another thing instead of having a bunch of different tools for specializing in different jobs
@denoftools
@denoftools 3 года назад
You used to see that in the US but they went "out of style". I did a bit of a deep dive into that a while back after I picked up a combo planer/jointer and I think the reason is that in the US most people has a good deal more space to work with than you would have in other parts of the world such as Europe. Also that miter/table saw model failed US safety regs and that is why it's not sold here. OH and I've had two shop smiths. They make great drill presses, and ok lathes but they are a pain to convert and the table saw function is truly scary.
@sawman209
@sawman209 3 года назад
@@denoftools that makes sense. I mean the mitre table saws are kinda too small for wood working and really are for just ripping flooring to size. Ive changed my mind lol.
