This was a fantastic series Pap! Fun fact, aside from Matt Turk, I am the only other runner who has held the record for every single fight in this game, and as such, I've been mentioned as a record holder at least once in every one of Pap's videos in this series (unless it's one of the trivial huge ties like Glass Joe lol). I even had a point where I held every record at the same time, another thing which only Turk had done.

Seeing Matt Turk absolutely rinse Mike Tyson on a shaky camera goes a long way to show why everyone was happy to believe he took all the other records at his stated times, too.

Honestly seeing that made me go "okay yeah he's legit." It helps that he went so in depth that his runs can be replicated via TAS.

Pap's videos have been way more detailed than say, SummoningSalt's, for good reasons. Salt's videos are for absolutely everyone including people who will never play MTPO, he needed to be a little more brief to get the pacing right for someone absolutely oblivious to what the game even is. You seem to have found the perfect way to explain it in much greater detail without being too drawn out or confusing, just at the cost of someone most likely needing to watch another video of yours(more specifically the video on why the perfect run is impossible) if they know absolutely nothing about MTPO. Appreciate the content, I have watched every MTPO video of yours at least once now. I'm hooked.

This has been an astoundingly helpful video series -- thank you, Pap! I want to call out the accessibility of Pap's work -- Blind person here (no vision), and Pap's videos are absolutely accessible to me. Pap even explains the flowcharts in enough detail for me. I mean I know I am not the target audience but it just goes to show that Pap's goal is explaining this game, the nuances, to as many people as he can. Using Pap's and Sinister's videos, I have been able to reliably beat the game and to round-1 all except Tyson (Tyson round 2, using Jack Wedge buffers). Childhood Hippo embarrassment revenge. :) A fun/extra challenge is that I have to learn this all from content that's accessible to me, so like text, videos with descriptions like Pap's and Sinister's... Pap, if you read this, or you can help with a super niche request: A tutorial or text or pointer to how to Round-1 Tyson using only audio? Would be amazing. I am ready to practice the delayed hits, I just can't figure out when (in what situations) to use the double quickdodge so that I'm not guessing. Thank you!
@Papamanual
@Papamanual 27 дней назад
Its one thing to play this game blind once youve learn it, but to learn it blind is super impressive. Unfortunately, I really give you any tips on beating Tyson in Round 1 blind - I have not done it myself. However, assuming you get the most common pattern (which involves 6 punches) I would use the double quick dodge on uppercuts 3, 4 and 5, and then on the loop back to 1. If you do get a short delay on uppercut 4, you know you are in that 6 punch loop. If you dont, then after uppercut 3, he looped back to 1, so you will have to adjust. Its by far the toughest feat to do blind, and im not sure if I can really convey that with just text.

When I bought tyson's for the the NES . Beat the game was able to KO tyson in round 2 in about 1988. Still had my old NES and thought to my self I have alot of experience with the game Also played the Rom's of the arcade games on mame for years on my PC. Ironically the last fight has one the least interesting strategies. Hit 21/22 frame perfect punches, and time those dodges as tight as possible to hope to get an extra uppercut in the final phase. It's less like a story of learning new strategies and more a story of individuals doing difficult accomplishments. Good video Pap.

Thanks! This was fascinating. I played this game a lot as a kid, and really got back into it about 20 years ago. I never got to the elite levels here, but I was happy enough being able to TKO Mr. Sandman in round 1, and getting a sub 1:00 on Great Tiger, and downing Piston Honda before he could get his rush out etc. The one thing I have never been able to do is get a round 1 TKO on Tyson/Dream. I just never got the frame perfect punches consistently enough.

@dbeast03
@dbeast03 27 дней назад
Yes, Tyson needs basically perfect RNG for sub 2, and yes Sandman hasn't remotely been TAS'd that low. Pap has a video on the odds of a theoretical perfect MTPO run, and while Tyson sub 2 is at the edge of feasible for humans (requiring fairly ridiculous luck and nerves of steel), Sandman is not even close even with perfect RNG and perfect play.

As a former MTPO player, I've never understood the hatred of Mr. Dream by the community. I mean, your goal is to beat the game, not a person. The two characters are functionally identical, like Pap says, the only difference being a color palette change. The record for one is the same as the record for the other. Why does it matter so much to so many to beat the cartridge that was released BEFORE the actual Mike Tyson lost in Tokyo as opposed to the one that was sold afterward? They're the same in every way that matters! I just don't get it.
