Dragon ball was an amazing manga that changed shonen jump in a wonderful way. For it would lead the way for such amazing titles like Sporting Salt to change the world by storm.
Its on the very last page so sewing everyone grown up with children is really sweet I think. It's like Toriyama I'd showing you everyone is happy even if you can't read more
No comments about how great kurumada is... he's absolutely amazing. His art and style is just so fantastic. I can't wait for otoko zaka (mens hill) to conclude this year
Your videos are invaluable for everyone who wants to know the history of the Japanese mangas that we all love. To me, living in Italy also helps to put into perspective some information that is polluted by the history of manga publishing here. As an example, we read Baoh MUCH later than seeing Dragonball anime on TV, so for us, Baoh was "new" while Dragonball was "old", so I never imagined that actually Baoh was published in the same year as DB! Also, we in Italy think of Kurumada as a mangaka who had his "stroke of luck" being put on the Saint Seiya project, while from your videos, I have discovered that he is a pillar of battle shonen mangas! Thanks for all your research!
Thank you, I'm glad your getting so much out of it! It's fun to see where each manga debut timeline-wise since some might be much older or younger than you think! And yeah discovering things like Masumi Kurumada being so pivotal to the magazine has been really interesting!
@@TrentinArt Orange Road may be my favorite series, but honestly I think you were EASY on it with just how dated the series is. Like, even beyond Hikaru's treatment, it ignores the things that'd make it controversial in Japan [the series has not been reaired for a long time because of how much underage drinking is in the series] and would be more controversial in the US [even adjusting for shonen romcom logic, Kyousuke does things to Madoka that would count as SA in the US at least three times in the course of the series.]
@@amm2media472 I don't know- I think the way the anime was ended up a little bit better. The anime was pretty close to the manga, with the anime-exclusive episodes adding a bit more action or balls-out comedy to the mix. The anime giving Hatta a big role immediately added more comedy to the mix early, but the manga-exclusive characters were...kind of mediocre actually [the new guy who crushed on Hikaru was literally doing the same stuff Yusaku did, the former classmate of Kyousuke's was only important for one episode, and the girl trying to get Kyousuke was basically superfluous for the story when it was clear Kyousuke chose in his heart and you couldn't get even one good episode of hi considering her.]

An interesting topic for a cross-magazine video would be a "these are shonen!?" about stories that seem geared for a female audience, but end up in shonen magazines
So technically Saint suitable came out in Issue 1 of 1986, so I'll be talking about it front and centre in the 1986 video! Jump usually begins it's year in December of the previous one so it can get a bit confusing but that's what I've been following for these videos
I do read some Sunday and WSM manga but Jump is just wayyy more accessible and I'm so invested already. Plus this series needs a ton of research, if I did the same for the other magazines I'd stretch myself too thin, but maybe in the future I'll look into other magazines more
