Its like an cool uncompleted idea gone wrong. I see the vision but The author was still too unexperienced... it just wouldnt work out, even if haikyuu didnt exist Funny thing what i see about the author is when it comes to one-shots, its always action based. But his aim for serialization is highly slice of life. Normally authors just commit atleast once for a battle serialization
Mmm!! I think even for series where some wouldnt consider it axed I still might cover them to ask that very question! But undoubtedly Magu-Chan had a good run, I also think it could have gone on longer too since it's just one of those manga that could be like a few hundreds of chapters with ease.
I've read it up to part of the latest big battle I think? And I did try the anime but it felt iffy at points, I think i'll go back to it again someday though!
I have read 39 of these. There are still some great ones that you have missed or havent read or maybe you just werent a fan: other JOJO parts, beelzebub, shaman king, YUYU Hakusho, Toriko, nurarihyon no mago, saiki kusuo no psi-nan, dr slump and dragon ball, hungry joker I think is way better than black clover but the ending was blitzed, sensei no bulge, illegal rare, mieru hito, ultra battle satellite, mitsukubi condor. these are just th ones I think should be among those in this list. crazy commitment from you
There should be a 2024 version of this coming in September which would fill in those gaps! Dragonball, Dr.Slump, JoJo Part 2, Yuyu Hakusho should be there as well as a bunch of other older manga! For the axed manga you mentioned theres some fun ones there for sure which I think might be slightly outside my top 100? But I remember things like Ultra Battle Satellite pretty fondly! I'm excited to see how my new list compares!
Canvas Terra feels super 2000s to me and i love that. I really hope it starts serialisation and gets somewhere popularity wise. At least in the 20+ volume range I would hope we get from such a classic feeling adventure series.
Well maybe Gundam isnt for you since its not always big robots do boom boom, arguably even G Gundam which is the most of that is also one of the most character driven and romantic stories
SJ needs something to keep them alive. With MHA gone. JJK climax next week it seems like they are struggling and need some new battle manga that’s MHA level with JJK combined.
@@pwny1000 Struggling? That's a stretch. They have like a ton of ongoing titles, some almost at 200 chapters. MHA and JJK aren't the only ones carrying them, dude
I have read three of those and agree with you that Canvas Terra already looks like a first chapter. Sezaki-san, on the other hand, looks like a really good one-shot, but not Jump-like. I could see that story in a Sunday Magazine, but I think that the author will be doing another story for serialization. I also think that this author will be starting in the September batch of new series in Jump, finally! Furthermore, that last one, Bake Kitsune...I can't see as a series. I like it as a one-shot and think that the author get the vibes of a calm slice-of-life with good people and touching stories like Ruri Dragon or Sket Dance, but I don't think that THIS ONE could be that series. But looking forward to see future works from Sumida. Hope that he doesn't disappear. (And that was a terrible pun, because in Portuguese, my native language, Sumida means Vanished)
Sezaki is kinda scattered and I can't see this one working out. But it could of course be heavily altered to become a huge success like the Naruto one-shot. It seems to be surface-level inspird by Haruhi Suzumiya, so with these common repetitions in shonen here's what I would suggest if I was the editor: The power progression seems to be a twist on typical action hero roles sort of like Ben10, so we could take that further and have the guy have a tendency to split into 7 copies, who each have a naive infatuation with either of the 7 personalities. They'd have to work as something like a reverse harem for Sezaki-san, inspired by Osomatsu-kun, and have to back her up in mosnter fights which she's not really inclined to fight as a girly girl. During the run we explore the trueness of those seven loves, while these 14 or 12 characters plus some supporting cast interact. I would probably make Toru a martial arts athlete but still a reserved nerd with not many friends, assisting in fights with the numbers on his side and exploring themes of cooperation and reaching out.
Hahaha the pun is pretty funny. Sezaki probbably would fit sunday more but Id still like to see Jump experiment a bit, more SOL in general would be interesting and Ruri proved they can work but i'm excited to see anything from them overall! Canvas Terra though for sure Id love to see a full serialization, id take a billion more adventure styled stories over a lot of the exorcism stuff we've been getting for the last few years.
to all you kids getting into manga/anime for the first time, if there's ONE thing that you learn from this video, it's this: if you try something that's mainstream that you don't gel with OR other people love a genre/series and you just can't seem to get into, don't assume you made your opinion and write something off! Keep looking! When I was first getting into manga/anime, I thought for decades it wasn't for me. I kept seeing these teenagers using super powers and screaming all the time and just assumed "well, I guess this isn't for me" It took me 20 YEARS (that's 2-0!) to figure out what my tastes were and what I would like in the medium and all that time searching has made the enjoyment of manga that much better Don't think that manga/anime after when you were born doesn't have value! Tezuka, Fukio Fujiro, and Shigeru Mizuki among others are masters of their craft and you SHOULD NOT overlook their contributions Another pro-tip: sometimes, when an anime looks "boring" (aka real people that aren't fighting with super powers) are the best manga you'll read. TrentinArt wasn't lying when they said "don't write off gag/slice of life stuff". There are a lot of gems you're going to miss out on! I will now get off my soap box
Thank you for your comment! I'm definitely a big advocate for searching outside your comfort zone with media and going back to older things too, tastes can broaden immensely when you do that which is a ton of fun
At least the timeline is easier to follow then nauverse/fate series.. regardless the Universal century gets complicated especially when you add Manga and games into the mix. Gundam is a hard thing to jump into if you weren’t young and started off in toonami where you just see giant robots fighting as a kid, and then you get the games making you forget its politics, war and drama. To me I always watched the stuff outside of uc before I jumped into the uc and I started with The Original series of course I liked watching it in the movie format but they did skip a few things in the movies that I liked.
The UC can be daunting yeah, but theres definitely a few good places to start which was more where I was going with this video rather than full on explaining the timelines
@@TrentinArt Completely understandable. I do agree with your rankings to especially with Builders because builders you can jump into and from Reiji perspective he doesn’t knows what Gundam is being from where he was. So you also learn things about Gundam through it. I think no matter what though most content that comes from the one year war is what usually catches me. I mean even games that take place during one year war is great Zeonic Front and Code Fairy are great. I think surprisingly SD Gundam Genesis breaks the mangas down pretty well and places them on a good timeline in game
I really appreciate these videos about the history of Shonen Jump and Manga as a print medium. I'm very sad that in North America we cant get a monthly Shonen Jump anymore, so this is giving me some nostalgia.
Damn I started with the Origin, thought it was a great start for its animation and character setup. But now I’m on MS Gundam and the animation is a stark contrast
Since I watched it last it could be a decent start in some ways, the jump in animation might be kinda wild though yeah, though I do love how the OG looks
The roster talk segment was a great addition to this series, it gives so much more context to what was actually happening in the magazine. Some mangas were added so long ago that we, viewers, forget about them but they're going strong in the magazine occupying a place there. Also helps to understand the themes that were popular back to these years. Can't wait for more of these videos, but do take your time researching cause it's worth!
Thank you glad your enjoying it! And I agree its a lot of fun to see how things change especially if theres any popular themes or trends at certain times!
Had just gotten up to this little series and not going to lie, it has been very intriguing to hear about the history of the magazine. I recently decided to revisit part 1 of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (mostly because it had been about a decade since I got introduced to the series) and it's been a nice experience. Though this time I liked it a lot more and the core of part 1 was very strong. God Sider does sound like it will be my thing so i'll give it a read sometime
