THE HISTORY OF YU-GI-OH! - PART 6 - In this series we look at the entire history of Yu-Gi-Oh! such as the evolution of the meta, TCG formats, as well as key cards, combos, and sets that were influential.
In this particular episode, we look at 2012 and 2013, where we dive into the world of XYZ centered decks and powerful archetypes such as Inzektors, Mermails, Wind-Ups, and Fire Fists. We also transition into Yu-Gi-Oh's most infamous format: Dragon Ruler format.

Nice video! The series is great explaining how yu-gi-oh changed from ocasional special summonings to basically only special summons. Keep the nice work!

Thanks for doing this series man, I really really love it. Just got back into reading/watching/playing YGO recently. This period is the saddest one for me because I was there when EVERY SINGLE PERSON played Dragon Rulers online and I just wanted to have fun but it seemed like I was against an army of copy robots. Today is not very balanced either but anything is better than DR.

It’s funny that when I say “they release a busted card”, I showed Firewall Dragon even though it’s now unlimited and not busted at all lol. So to clarify, I uploaded this video before Firewall Dragon’s errata was announced so I was talking about the pre-errata in this video :)

There is a Female Fire Fist because Fire Fist are based on a famous Chinese Novel named Water Margin. And in that novel although the gang of the main characters consists mostly men, there are still three women

I actually ran a Watt deck really successfully during this format, of all things. If you look at late 2013/early 2014 dragon ruler builds they don't really have any way of disrupting a watthopper-lock outside of sometimes a couple dark holes. most other builds i saw around this time were messing with messenger of peace or trying to OTK, but with a few copies of 'the huge revolution is over' and a bunch of combos to restore the lock if it was broken, the watts could just slowly chip away while the opponent was stuck with a field of 5 useless boss monsters >:) ...spellbooks still messed me up though

See so many people think there are two eras of Yu-Gi-Oh. I disagree, I believe there was 3. DM through GX. Synchro up until tachyon, then the era we live in now.

Subbed to catch the next video. Sucks, I played in 02 casually, tried to get my kids into it in 2013, but they didn't believe in the heart of the cards and went to pokemon. now my youngest is getting into it and I really need to get caught up 2014+. Duel links is no help cause it stops here too. sigh of frustraition.

Apparently I never played dragon rulers right, whenever I played my friend in 8th grade he would always beat the deck with Cyber Dagons.XD

You probably didnt had access to the strong extra deck this deck needed so as to maximize it's true potential,while the main deck was mostly cheap, the extra deck was expensive af. Number 11 big eye was ranging between 30-80 dollars back than for example. I dont wanna speak about the Dragossacks price...Without the extra deck, it was still decent, probably a tier 2 deck
