Add handles at the bottom on each side to help ease of carry and the handles could also act as tie down points.

VERY nice work, TUSCA! For the time being I have just been lurking, learning and drooling over this thing, as, due to circumstances beyond my control, I am not in a position to get much use out of it right now. However, I am 80% sure that this will change soon enough, and if/when it happens I'll be an instant buyer. Please keep us posted on any updates, customer testimonials, photos, custom applications etc.. I'm picturing one on a big trailer that will also accommodate a motorcycle or two and lots of traditional camping gear, for those of us who like to camp in the open spaces, the simple, traditional way, and yet sleep safe, secure and comfortable.

I have 46 years in the RV industry - you folks are on to something! Consider a unit done in snazzy colors. Or offer as option.

Massive side windows and one on the angled side roof ( with ability to pop open) with a blackout shade I can see really appealing to a large market. That and an ability to toss on a fitted camo ( different patterns , woods pattern, snow ) cover that’s mesh in material to be able to look out the windows, man I can see that work for so many applications.

We got flat bed utility trucks here in Australia, just the ticket, slide right on.

I'd love to have one that fits in my 5.5ft bed tundra but in a small cab over design like a cowboy camper. Just an empty simple warm dry box that fits in a short bed truck but allows for a 6ft person to sleep flat north/south configuration.

With some rigid tie downs, this would pair nicely with the "Decked" system folks put in their pickups. (Im personally not a fan of them, but I am a fan of this camper.)

This is exactly what I've been planning to build out of foam, well done and now I can buy one.

nice im currently doing my camper the same way with 3" thick pink foam and having it rhino lined outside. good job.

For those wanting to ratchet strap it down there are black ratchet straps and even camo ones. No need to have bright yellow or neon green straps.

Here's an idea to consider. Really like it as is so not being critical. But have you considered a narrower model that would fit between the wheel wells of a full size pickup? I've been looking at the Moonlander topper by Radica. The interior height of the Moonlander plus the bed depth would be close to the interior height of your camper. But because the Hitchhiker has to go above the wheel wells it would stick up close to a foot higher. Would love a narrower version with no need to have a platform. But as is it's still the most affordable camper out there and I'd put it on a Decked platform because I'd still want the lockable storage rather than using a temporary supportive frame. And Decked has an 8' bed option now. But a narrower camper on the floor would be lower and could always put gear inside and move it to the cab when sleeping in the camper if needed. Also one other idea. Would be great to have ports for air hoses of portable a/c units like the Ecoflow Wave 2. Would probably have to cut away enough screen to make that work. I'm now going to keep quiet!

Finally! Someone who took all the expense out of a camper trailer by eliminating the trailer. Well done.

The adaptability of the unit is great. I could add anything I wanted to. I saw you guys at the sportsman show.

BRILLIANT CONCEPT

Built something very similar. Aluminum welded frame, 2" hard foam, glued and riveted aluminum skin, sprayed with Line-X. Propane heat/cooking, fold up beds. exterior tie down anchors at the corners. Mine fits 3/4ton beds.

Simple & sweeet! Just be aware that you may wake up to bags of donated clothes & household items blocking your door. 😁👌

Sounds like exactly what i was looking for. Can anything be affixed to the inside and or outside, for example a shelf or propane rack for a more permanent set up

ill have to check, but it may just fit right onto of a truck bed drawer system too. have storage under andddd lift it over those wheel wells.

I hope you have success with this product. Please consider making a model with no floor that fits on top of truck bed rails. There is a big market for truck campers/overlanding. Current available are too expensive for many. Good luck.

How much weight can you reasonably put on top of it? I'm imagining a RTT attached to the top to allow for a 2nd sleeping loft space....or a cargo rack to hold storage boxes for all the gear we inevitably bring along. Also, what is the strength/rigidity of the material? Could you drill holes in this material to attach a ladder to the right of the entry door...or attach gear to the sides like MaxTrax, shovels/axes, spare tire, etc? This is an interesting design for sure...the simplicity and size/weight make me think immediately about all the ways in which this could be custom modified for individual needs. I think you've established a smart/flexible baseline to take off from.

All I need is shelter from rain and bears and skunks and snakes and bugs and this looks like the ticket.

If we could get a light duty roof rack just to attach an awning would be amazing

Just checking in. You mentioned there would be more videos and info about new models coming in the future. Just wondering if there's any news about these? Still hoping for a solo model that would fit on truck bed floor between wheel wells and tailgate down for upcoming hybrid pickups. Could even make that work for a Ford Maverick with a little overhang. On the transporting on a truck bed frame above the wheel wells. Decked makes a non slip mat that would hold it in place along with the straps. Can buy the mat by itself from them to use on a plywood base. I do think the Hitchhiker on an 8' bed on top of the Decked drawers is the way to go but that gas mileage issue keeps me from pulling the trigger.

Regarding the construction, how are the foam panels joined? Considering these are just foam and bed liner, how resistant are they to puncture from rocks while driving and branches in the woods?

Cool idea! You could build a truck bed base out of 8020 extruded aluminum and you would have a great camping rig. If you need your truck just just remove the “Hitch Hiker” and the two 8020 bench supports in minutes. 😎

Great idea. A big drawback for me to though 😮is the toxic off-gassing of the bedliner material on the interior; from what I’ve read, it’s toxic even after drying, especially as the gasses are accumulating in an enclosed space. And the off-gassing increases with the increase in temperature. Any chance of lining the interior with fiberglass or 1/4 ply ?

This is what I have wanted for years. I have a 5x10 trailer that I want to use.

I believe this is a wonderful idea/ now reality. I believe it to be perfect for those who own some land or who have friends or family who do, who could just keep it there or move it around to different locations when needed. Far better than a tent, and really budget friendly, and lightweight to move. Number one concern for some folks would be claustrophobia , esp. if you were stuck inside for extended periods of time due to severe weather. More protection than a tent, but I always prefer having folks and animals not knowing exactly where I am at inside, so being on private property would be best. It has a window for ventilation. Humidity often plays a factor as well. You could get mold inside so having the right bedding inside would be a must. It really is a barebones tiny home. Whether you keep it on a trailer, a base or a pad. This is indeed a fantastic idea. Get some heavy duty poles and a tarp, and you can cheaply expand off of this as well.

I would love to see a "pack flat" version of this, that you reassemble on-site, with tongue and groove walls. Also, an awning attachment, lights and ventilation, and a pass-thru for various electronics cables. Would also be nice as a "bedroom" inside one of those "stealth camper" vans.

Interesting. You could be on to something here. Any thoughts on making a 6' version for a Tacoma or Frontier that would fit with the tailgate closed? Also, it would be nice if it were taller with cut outs for the wheel wells for more headroom(sitting on the bed instead of above it) and no sliding or movement because of those wheel wells holding it in place. Where are you at ? I am camping at brothers yard in Central Florida ...Please keep the price down .. I'd love to live in one .. I am a retired & a veteran whom can't afford high prices .. that would be light enough to tote behind my Suzuki samurai .. & have a safe place to sleep at night .. wow , if only I could get one , I'd be set for the rest of my life ... I used to be a truck driver whom is used to small sleepers .. having this safe place to sleep would be a life changing event for me ..

This is a great concept and far closer to something I could use instead of buying an entirely new vehicle! How hard would it be to get a hole fitted into the roof for a small A/C unit? This may not be the ideal way to cool one of these, just the first thing that popped into my head as I would most likely be using this more for summer camping near the beach and most likely with a dog or two. It'd heat up real quick with that many bodies and having power plus mounting options for a roof unit would be nice.

Is there ventilation for long spans of time between uses (not the windows). I mean, if I leave this at my camp with a mattress in it all winter, am I going to have mold and mildew to deal with in the spring?

You need to make one of these a little narrower and about as long to fit a Kei truck and go after that market? Would prob fit in a regular truck bed then with no "adjustments"?

This is pretty awesome. Just like a teardrop, but it doesn't cost 15k and isn't full of stuff you don't really need when camping. I've been looking for something just like this. I'll probably end up buying one. Absolutely awesome!

Why not just live in an old refrigerator box?

2750 bucks for that thats a lot of money for just a box id suggest looking at the camper market you can buy a new small camper trailer for the five thousand range lastly why not just put that ting on its on dedicated trailer and not have worry about loading it on a trailer or loading it into truck bed remember those truck bed campers frim the 70's and 80's you rarely ever see people using them because theyre such a pain to load and unload if you look around here on youtube you only see a very few people building a camper box like youve built theyre building travel trailers permanently mounted on a dedicated trailer id seriously rethink this whole thing here fellers

Putting it on a utility/ATV/whatever trailer makes sense, but in a truck bed? A topper costs about as much, does everything this thing does, still allows you to use your pickup bed for non-camping purposes, and looks like it belongs there, I can't imagine why a truck camper would consider one of these.

Sounds interesting, but also sounds like it could be easily stolen from your campsite while you’re off fishing or hiking, etc.
