You right about Barkley, but honestly, I loved watching Tommy more than I did Leonard or Hagler because with Tommy you knew something was coming but you just wasn't quite sure how it would happen. Hitman hearns was a freak of nature he carried his right hand power from ww to cw dropping or stopping his opposition I never fought he could but in Dennis Andries who at light heavy weight and I thought had a cast iron chin hearns dropped him multiple times

Truly a specimen. That kind of reach with speed and power combined is insane.

But he did lose in welterweight to Sugar Ray. That being said, it would have been extremely difficult to make weight as he got older. I read somewhere around the time of his first Leonard fight that he appeared slightly weakened trying to make weight for that fight.

He is incredibly underrated. Without a broken right hand I think he could have done the impossible and stopped Hagler. In his first fight with Ray he came on far too light at 145 and it cost him in 13 and 14. On any other era than that of the four kings he would have retired undefeated at around 45-50 fights with 40 + KOs. Oh and he would have been Mayweather's worst nightmare.

They also didn't get paid like today. Big difference in the times. Men were men then, but respect for today's fighters who have learned the business side of it.

Manny Pacquiao got 8 so it actually has been matched and beaten, but that doesn't take away from hitman's greatness. Tommy was before me but is absolutely my fav fighter all time, and Manny is my fav fighter of my time, and Terence Crawford is my fav of current times. Hopefully he can get a 4th belt at 154 someday.

That was.. insane. They came out and said “to hell with boxing” and it just became an immediate slug fest. Hearns went all in that night, coming out like that against Marvin Hagler was at best ill-advised . Which is why Hearns rolled the dice. R.I.P Marvin Hagler.

He beat Leonard the second time around despite what those bogus scorecards say. He also won more world titles in more weight divisions than Leonard, and was the first man to knockout Duran! He already has Leonard beat with these feats!

I feel for Tommy about the first srl fight and the 2nd srl fight anyone who watched knows what really happend. Also that hand in Hagler fight such a shame even with that it managed to be one of the best fights ever and it only was 3 rounds lol. Very exciting fighter. Iron sharpens iron, says the Book of Proverbs, and during that 70-80's era there were decidedly 5 stalwarts [some would say "kings"] of the non-heavyweight divisions, namely, [in strictly alphabetical order], Benitez, Duran, Hagler, Hearns and Leonard. They brought out the best in one another -- as, with the exception of Benitez-Hagler that never happened, everyone of them fought every other one. Sugar Ray was the best performing fighter of the lot as he beat all 4, scoring KO in 3 of them, while at the other end of the totem pole Duran was the worst performer losing to all 4, with KO in 2 of those although, ironically, his sole win was against SRL [which was SRL's sole defeat although in reality, despite the scorecards that had it "draw", he lost to Hearns in their rematch in 1989]. So in summary, their greatness was predicated on their having existed together! By reverse logic, those who trol Mike Tyson for reigning over a "weak" division miss the point. Iron Mike pulverised his way through whomever was put in front of him, it wasn't his duty to produce the surplus of enough lionhearted to challenge him -- that is, even if at all it's true that there weren't! 'nuff said.

I’ve watched Hearns v haggler dozens of times and each time I find myself screaming no Tomas noooo at the TV. He was my favourite as well.

Hearns later revealed that he had a deep tissue massage prior to Haglers fight and by the second round his legs were jelly and couldn't move properly. He knew he was in trouble and was fighting with no legs and no meaningful right.

I watched that fight against Sugar and Tommy won. Easily. Tommy put him on the canvas twice.
