The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies - Bilbo Planting His Acorn in Dale deleted scene from appendecies. 👕I'm going on an adventure shirt: rdbl.co/3vXf2Np
"But really, what else can you do?... When faced with death, what can anyone do? You go on living." - Really, profoundly beautiful words and a performance to match from Martin.
I can understand why they cut it. That acorn will eventually grow into the Party Tree in the Shire, so Bilbo planting it in Dale would create a paradox of sorts. However, I agree. This scene, as well as Bilbo's speech, is beautiful.
To credit bilbos as a character: whilst dragonslayer hero bard and the great wizard gandalf (one of the f**king ISTARI) loose hope, the hobbit remains steadfast and even gives an inspirational speech. Let that sink in for a moment
@@herndonhimself2567 don’t get me wrong I actually love this scene. I think though with Peter Jackson wanting to merge the hobbit trilogy with the LOTR trilogy even more so that scene wouldn’t make sense as the tree he planted is visible in the lord of the rings. I do really love this scene though. Especially the music while he’s planting it.
Adam Dens Hobbit Edit includes this scene and it’s wonderful, really gives the whole battle an emotional resonance, would suggest you Google his edit 👍
That should have been in the film. No not in the book but the despair of Bard and Gandalf at the losses of men must have mirrored Tolkien's experience.
Insane, the extended version adds a bunch of extra cg bullshit but cuts the pay off to one of the films strongest scenes that actually centers the main character in the film's conflict and gives him a proper interaction with one of the film's other leads
Add on: I looked online at the best quotes from Bilbo, but I fell that this is the best quote of his: "That is a promise. Beneath all that blood and dirt there is a chance for new life. It may sound hopeless, it may sound foolish, but really what else can you do when faced with death? What can anyone do? You go on living"
The part that baffles me most about this being a deleted scene is the fact that it was in the OFFICIAL trailer. So sad that they left it out. It really is the best scene in all of the movies.
Not really sure whether I'm 100% right about this, but there are two songs in this scene. The one at the beginning that ends when Bilbo plants the acorn is a bit from the track "Courage and Wisdom" from the BOTFA soundtrack. I believe that the other one is the same one that can be heard in the "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us" scene from The Fellowship of the Ring. The track where it is featured is called "Gollum", and I think a certain rendition of it is also featured in the "The Road Goes Ever On and On Pt1" track. I don't know whether there is a track that puts these two songs together as it is done here, though. Whoever had the idea to put them together (which in my opinion are two out of the best tracks Howard Shore composed for the whole franchise) in this scene is a bloody genius. It's the music that does it for me, along with the performance of everyone, that makes the message of the scene really stand out. It's really sad it's not part of the movie, but at least we got to see it like this.
@@tr_entertainment I have the Blu-Ray 3D set of Extended Editions for all 3 Hobbit films, which part of the Appendices is this from? I've never seen this scene, and I've watched all of TBOTFA Appendices. I suppose I probably just forgot. Gotta love the appendices!
