It's been awhile since our last video blog. As we approach release, we want to show you a bit more of what we've been shooting. Hope you enjoy and we will see you in theaters on December 13.
I love the Thranduil of the movie. I think Lee Pace's interpretation of the character is amazing, cause he (and you all) have found the best way to show us how much the king of mirkwood is different from the other elves already seen in the previous movies. Great job, thank you!
Benedict and Martin- The Hobbit Benedict and Martin- Sherlock Holmes Benedict and Martin- Avengers Realization hits me: I love The Hobbit (& LoTR) I love Sherlock Holmes I love Avengers What's next?
i really like watching the blogs, I learned more about movie production thru these videos. Thank you Sir Peter Jackson :) and keep up the great work. you and your staff/crew are amazing!
Honestly. I know the CGI is dodgy at times. But man, the fact that the movie was 90-95% CGI and green screen and you cannot notice all of that is just amazing. Like the radast and gandelf scene, I expected for some background to be CGI but literally everything except for the actors is green screen lol
You should do a short Sherlock and Watson bit in the next blog with Benedict and Martin where they get into those characters for a moment. That would be awesome.
I have just watched 2 of the three extra DVDs from the Extender Edition of the Unexpected Journey. Last time I laughed like that was... when I watched the extra DVDs from the Lord of the Rings. Even though I am quite a "purist" Tolkien fan (sorry, I know we can be sometimes a real pain), I really love these movies (and extra data like this, too)
Oh man, how do you become a storyboard artist? at 18?? If I may geek out a moment: I'm a recent art graduate with two degrees & I can't find a thing.. so I'll have to take jobs I could have gotten out of highschool, but with loans on my back. THIS kind of thing re-inspires me. Imagine a start as a storyboard artist, getting to be creative & helpful, esp. for LoTR no less? It'd be quite a dream. I'm glad everyone seems to love&appreciate their jobs. They're all pretty lucky/talented. Awesome.
Hello! I hope you're being fine and well, it's been some time since you wrote that comment :) I was also lingering on that issue, of course he must have started with a very insignificant job, but due to his passion and good work he ended up where he is now. I believe it is really about how much passion and ideas towards the craft you have. I am struggling myself with finding my way in life, but hopefully you've found yours since writing that comment. Cheers!
SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT Gollum is also in the next movie! the reason for this is because during the time of the events of The hobbit Aragon II Elessar captured Gollum in the dead marshes and brought him into Mirkwood, with King Thranduil as captive. So i speculate a Aragon Cameo.
Don't forget that Frodo had the ring for 17 years before leaving the Shire and meeting Aragorn. Bilbo says The Hobbit was 60 years ago b4 Gandalf's arrival for the party. Add the extra 17 years before Frodo met Aragorn would be 77. Aragorn is 87 in the trilogy so this makes him 10 years old during the events in The Hobbit.
Nice deduction #SherBoCop Aragorn was born in the year 2931 of the third age, and would have been exactly 10 years when the company of Thorin Oakenshield took off on their quest in the year 2941
What makes me sad is the amount of green screens. The Hobbit is still a good movie and I'm sure the next two will be great also, but LOTR had that bit of realism that all the CGI in The Hobbit can't reproduce.

Does anyone else think that Radagast's reaction to Gandalf's cursing is hilarious? The way he's like wtf?? and turns around, then he's like so seriously "Gandalf what are you talking about??" LOL. Those 2 guys are awesome.
Yes, I noticed that, too! He does like to do that! I saw on another post when he was sitting on a horse and he really flipped his hair and then the horse did the same thing. That was LOL funny!
from what I've seen, Lee Pace spent most of his time just being super excited about how cool everything is :P see his reaction to his throne and the five armies set
@@LaurensPP _This trilogy sucked though_ It didn't, though. In spite of its glaring flaws (and the Hobbit movies are incredibly flawed, I'm not gonna say otherwise), the trilogy is still vastly superior to the original book on so many levels. _It was a CGI infused_ And there's nothing fundamentally wrong with CGI. If anything, it gives the movies this ethereal, unrealistic feel which involuntarily suits the tone of the story, seeing as it's a biased and embellished retelling of the events Bilbo witnessed. _cheap thrill ride_ A flaw inherent to the source material. In the book, there is no real sense of danger, all the tension build-up moments systematically fall flat, there are tons of narrative ellipses with important events happening "off camera", and most of the characters in the book are totally transparent. In short, for the most part it's just the Dwarves constantly running from one place to another and that's pretty much it; the best part of the book being by far the "Riddles in the dark" chapter, with Gollum. So, if I weigh the pros and cons, we have: *cons -the lame humor -the forced love triangle -the ridiculous scene with the molten gold statue -too much Legolas -too many action scenes, some of which belong more in a video game than in a movie -WB didn't reinsert the deleted scene where Gandalf talks to Thranduil and asks him if his late wife would have liked to see him cherish the white gems more than his own son -they changed the tone of the story *pros -the original story is still there, albeit bloated and diluted -the cast is impeccable -they fleshed out the characters (the Dwarves, the Elven King, Bard, the master of Lake-town...) and the story -when Kili and Fili are killed, now I feell sad. Whereas in the book, the only thing I remember about them is that they both have blond beards, silver belts, and blue hoods -no more narrative ellipses, with Gandalf leaving halfway through the story only to return in the very last pages, Smaug being killed "off camera", or Bilbo being knocked unconscious as soon as the Battle of the Five Armies begins and waking up only after the battle has ended -Beorn is really intimidating and I understand now why Gandalf is so cautious not to upset him. In the book, he's basically Hagrid -the Spiders and Smaug are scary and you actually fear for Bilbo and the Dwarves. In the book, they are a joke and Bilbo makes fun of them -beautiful photography and gorgeous soundtrack -probably the best dragon I've seen since Disney's Dragonslayer in 1981 -perfect prologue to TLOTR
WHERE THE FUCK IS PICK UPS PART TWO!!!???? Its been weeks! "We're gonna keep the blogs coming thick and fast now." Uh yeah sure right. No offence, I love all you guys but as Thranduil says, "Do not give them hope where there is none."
Nope he is not. HE was just lucky with Lord of the Rings and the shameful The Hobbit trilogy is here to prove it. So poorly made that even my grandma could have done a better job.
I'm gonna be so disappointed when the scene with Evangeline Lilly and Thranduil talking about the jacuzzi doesn't make it into the final movie. Also, nice to see Benedict Cumberbatch making an appearance in this one.
Absolutely! Considering the producers were A-holes in not allowing a year delay prep for PJ and his team after GDT left is criminal but the fact they manage to make the movies as good as they did with their script meddling, forcing 2 movies into 3 is a miracle...
