Dr. Hahn spills the beans on Holiness, and how only God is truly holy, but through Him, by grace, we can also share in His holiness.

The “holiest” person I know is my 22 year old daughter who is a nonverbal special needs young lady. When you talked about the “still small voice” when God spoke to Elijah, I thought of my daughter. She has no use of her hands and has to be fed, dressed, walked, etc. When she does make a sound, it often sounds like a kitten. God made her this way. She is the opposite of this world’s definition of a “productive citizen,” and yet, there are no words for me to describe how she effects me, my wife, her three brothers, and all those who encounter her. She is able to receive Christ in the Eucharist and was confirmed this past June. I feel like a saint lives in my house! Her little face glows with the love of Christ. It is beyond me why God chose to bless me with this precious child. I praise God for this teaching Dr. Hahn! I sometimes grow weary, but God has used this truth you are speaking about to renew my strength.

I was told today that if I leave protestantism and affirm justification by infusion and not imputation, I'll be committing apostasy. Please pray for me that I'll find the truth and have the strength to go where God leads me. I'm strongly considering both Catholicism and Orthodoxy and don't see protestantism nearly as valid anymore.

So grateful for this. I had an “aha” moment when Dr. Hahn was talking about how we are supposed to work for 6 days and then rest on the 7th IN ORDER to allow God to work. And that was partly why the Pharisees were so upset with Jesus for healing on the sabbath; only God was supposed to “work” that day, so Christ was revealing His divinity to us once again in that moment. But it is a powerful lesson that I intend to apply to my own life and that of my families: on Sundays, I dedicate the day not only “to the Lord” but IN ORDER to allow Him to work in me. Praised be to Jesus Christ. Thank you both.

The authentic Genesis 2:2,3 seventh day 'Shabbat' (Hebrew for the Sabbath Day) is not "the first day of the week." It's the day defined as "the Holy of YHWH" in Is 58:13 as THE DAY BEFORE the first day of the week, just as Friday (the sixth Biblical day of the week), is "The Preparation" for the true Sabbath (Lk 23:54-56). Besides, Sunday begins six hours after the start of the first day of the week and ends six hours earlier. Genesis teaches us that God's days are measured from sunset onward, through the morning, and back to sunset. Not as pagan culture keeps time, from midnight to midnight. "And the evening and the morning were the sixth day" (Gen 1:31 KJV) The sanctified and blessed Shabbat, the sign of the everlasting covenant (Ex 31:13,16; Is 56:6; 58:13,14; 66:22-24; Mk 2:27,28; Heb 13:20,21) is perpetually from Friday sunset to Saturday sunset, as was Jesus' custom. All things are delivered to Him (Matt 11:27) so He becomes LORD, even of the Shabbat He made to receive our worship. This is the one and only Sabbath within Jesus' yoke (Matt 11:29,30; 12:8,50) Don't expect to experience the promise of Is 58:14 if not treasuring the specific day preset from Creation itself as an everlasting covenant in its own right (Ex 31:13,16; Is 56:6) The blessing on THIS Sabbath of the Ten Commandments is immutable and incomparable (Is 58:14; Matt 5:17-19; Rom 3:31; 1 Jn 2:3-6; 5:3). Its promise and benefits are non-transferable. Sunday has none of the recuperative and regenerative potential of the Ps 42:2,4 Sabbath. Israel only needs a one day weekend to be replenished, whereas we need two, because Sunday can't match the quality of the promised rest and refreshing God Himself experienced in Eden (Heb 4:1-11) HUMAN tradition has no authority. The tradition referred to in 2 Thess 2:15 is not HUMAN tradition. Look at Strong's definition of 'paradosis,' as 'Hebrew traditionary law,' meaning the Set/Appointed Times of YHWH, being perpetual, continue ad infinitum under the Hebrew New Covenant, as Is 66:22-24 makes so plain. Mk 7:6,7,9,13 lays down the principle. Apostasy begins with repudiation of God's own ordering of time. Sunday's MISUSE as a substitute sabbath by presumptuous ecclesiastical invention, causes the true Sabbath to be polluted by its DISUSE (Is 56:6). Rather keep the Sabbath that's commanded by God as the amalgam of the one new man (Ex 20:8-11; Matt 12:8), and then meet on Sunday, not under false pretences in the guise of Shabbat, but acknowledging that Sunday is not what human tradition has made it out to be (He was raised on the first day of the week but neither institutionalized every Sunday as Resurrection Day, NOR transferred His Father's Sabbath to Sunday). Then we don't corrupt the truth and defile Friday evening to Saturday evening (Is 56:6), and ourselves, by misrepresenting "the first day of the week," WHICH EVEN JESUS' MOTHER AND CLOSEST HANDMAIDS DID NOT KEEP AS THE COMMANDMENT WRITTEN FOR US ALL IN EX 20. They rested their works (even embalming the Son of God in death, being unacceptable to the Father, as a breach of the commandment) "according to the commandment" (Lk 23:54-56; 24:1). In short, Shabbat, coming around every seventh independently of tbe Jewish people and the calendar because it was made for mankind (Gen 2:2,3; Mk 2:27,28), is fixed by eternal commandment as the day between "The Preparation" (Yom Shishi, the sixth day) and "the first day of the week" (Yom Rishon, head of the working week which apostate Gentiles disavow, preferring the Babylonian Mon-Frid workweek). Shabbat is forever the day which Israel as timekeeper has preserved and which Jesus unequivocally confirmed in doctrine and practice (Matt 5:19). Any other formula for proposing the identity of the covenanted sabbath is a "cunningly devised fable" (2 Peter 1:15,16) of a "seducing spirit" (1 Tim 4:1), as the genuine Mary, Peter and Paul fully concede. Apostasy BEGAN with repudiation of the Sabbath. If we continue in this contempt for the indivisible marriage covenant (Ex 34:27,28,32), our sin WILL find us out (Nu 32:23), because Mary couldn't be holy had she not kept the Day the Father sanctified for all of us in the eternal House of Jacob (Lk 1:33; Eph 2:11,12) as His sign between us that He alone sets apart a people for Himself (Ex 31:13,16); Paul no less; and at no point does Peter's Gospel vary from Paul's (Gal 2:6-10; 2 Peter 3:16-18). So, better to be divided by the truth (Lk 12:47-53) than united with the deceived, by trying to dignify a lie which told often enough, becomes truth in the eye of the beholder. In other words, better to choose sanctification by the Truth of God and His Word (Jn 17:17,19) to find "the unity of the faith" (unanimity in sound doctrine - Eph 4:11-14) in two's and three's as a quorum sufficient to attract the reward of the genuine Presence (Matt 18:20), than "follow the crowd to do evil" (Ex 23:2), for God will not be mocked by His precepts being set aside, for whomsoever does so or who condones such deviation to the left or to the right, sows to his flesh and will reap corruption (Gal 6:7-9).

Shilomonroe-donovan4, praying for you now! Look up! ❤️ The Lord is with you! He is for you! Make up your mind to not let the enemy have a foot in the door if family members want to argue it…Tell them that you love them, and that you are following your conscience and your heart as the Lord has set this in front of you. Continue to love and serve your family as you have before. I will pray for your joy and your peace to be visible to all those around you. I imagine I will be in the same situation very soon as I’m about to start RCIA classes myself. I’m thinking about typing some things out and making some copies and giving them to my family members who may be shocked, surprised or upset ,because there’s one thing I’m not going to do… And that is to feel like I have to argue my way through. The enemy thrives on strife. And I will not do it. The things that I am learning are too beautiful! I’m not gonna let anybody take my joy. Blessings to you! You are not alone! you have a cloud of witnesses praying for you! 😃❤️

There's lots of theologians like Scott Hahn in the tradition he came from, conservative Presbyterianism. He makes mention earlier in the video about R.C. Sproul, who wrote a book called The Holiness of God. There's a flare of presbyterianism that Scott has that is not found in many traditions. It's no accident. Scott Hahn talks about the Davidic Kingdom, but forgets 1st 1 Samuel chapter 8, where the establishment of the earthly monarchical system is being described in negative terms. Such an earthly way to think about temporal rule was not initiated by God, but a rejection of G-d, so I think Dr Scott Hahn is off when it comes to the Davidic Kingdom typology. He knows well and I think he focuses on things that suit his typological view.

He should always come first, before yourself, before family, friends, anyone. You will never be alone, for God Himself suffices. I hold the world in prayer when I pray my rosary. We are all going through something when it comes to our faith. The devil will not prevail. Believe with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind in the Holy Eucharist. I still remember the album Godspell, 'Day by Day' we would sing at the 9:30 folk mass at the Church's school Cafeteria, "It's all for the Best", the finale at the end of the album that would bring one to tears, later at Campus Ministry, I was baptised in the Spirit, those were glorious times, the Holy Spirit truly united young flesh with the Spirit like our Father gave us the incarnation of His only begotten son, many remember only the 'free love' and woodstock of the sixties and seventies, but like Stuebenville in the mid eighties, it was a glorious time of the Charismatic Renewal, where we would go to Mass and actually sing praise to God, worship at the Eucharistic CELEBRATION, now you got to Mass with overhead projectors that don't work, snobbish ritualists who look down at the average Joe and Jane singing at all and of course your purists priests who want to sublet everything to an over paid 'Music Minister' who is just as snobish, the seventies and eighties were a vibrant time for Church goers, now the purists and perfectionists remain and the only sound perfectionism brings is the sound of silence, we're all quietists now.

The Spirit has been working everywhere and at all times. These 4 great traditions are, to me, like the four gospels. I absolutely love these talks. And the fun questions of "What about Anne Frank or the thief on the cross?" How it was explained to me by my RCIA teacher is that the sacraments were instituted for us but God is not strictly bound to never work outside the sacraments. They should never be downplayed but we also can never say that they are absolute in terms of someone's salvation, especially in those extenuating circumstances. Same idea if the unborn die before they can be baptized. All we can do is place faith in God's mercy in that He can work outside of baptism.
@Apriluser
@Apriluser 10 месяцев назад
They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved--you and your household." Acts 16:31. Baptism in the Eucharist are very, very important. But the journey begins with believing in what Christ has done for us. As we read the Scriptures for ourselves in our own personal lives, we begin to see how gracious our kind Lord is.
@arsenicrice9990
@arsenicrice9990 10 месяцев назад
@@Apriluser The journey can begin with belief. Or it can begin with a person’s baptism at infancy. There are many verses that teach what we must do to inherit eternal life, including belief, baptism, partaking if the body of Christ in the Eucharist, caring for the poor, etc. so we should not discount any of them. God is not limited by the sacraments He puts in place but we absolutely should not ever diminish their salvific graces God promised to bestow through them.

I think we all want the 7 day, 90 day, whatever specified amount of “days” to holiness because it is something we have control over and can do ourselves. But as Dr. Hahn says, holiness is not what we make ourselves because we can’t achieve or earn our own justification, which is hard to accept sometimes! 😅

You’re absolutely right. It is not our holiness, but the spirit of holiness that Christ shares with us as we grow in him and his Word.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:01 🙏 Holiness Exploration: Dr. Scott Hahn discusses the concept of holiness and its significance in the spiritual journey. 06:12 🕊️ Holiness and Righteousness: Distinguishes between holiness, pertaining to God's nature, and righteousness or justice, which involves being a good citizen and loving our neighbor. 10:14 🔍 Isaiah's Vision: Explores Isaiah's vision of God's holiness in the heavenly temple, emphasizing the awe, reverence, and transformation it brings. 18:07 🛡️ Sanctification: Holiness involves allowing God to sanctify us, making us His property, and becoming His children, fulfilling His plan for us to become saints. 21:22 🍎 Original Sin: Discusses how original sin resulted in spiritual death, separating humanity from the divine life, and the catastrophic impact it had on human nature. 21:35 📜 Exodus and Holiness: Highlights the explosion of references to holiness in the Book of Exodus, revealing God's emphasis on holiness in the context of salvation history. 21:50 🙏 Holiness is emphasized through various elements in the Old Testament, including sacred objects and sacrifices. 22:19 📜 The Hebrew Bible doesn't refer to individuals as saints but emphasizes being called to holiness. 23:17 🕊️ The Incarnation in the New Testament introduces a new level of holiness, revealing God's hidden plan. 24:12 🌟 The concept of holiness is central in Christianity, surpassing even the Holiness Code of Leviticus. 25:37 🎉 Saints in the Old Testament await the Kingdom's establishment through the Son of Man's return. 27:12 🙌 Jesus' Ascension leads to the repopulation of Heaven, elevating faithful departed souls. 29:15 ✨ Mary fulfills the Ark of the Covenant, containing the Word made flesh, representing a higher holiness. 30:38 🙇 Holiness is not earned by human effort but is given by God through the Holy Spirit. 32:01 🌍 The Church as the family of God transcends human lineages, leading to divinization. 33:38 🌟 Becoming holy involves trusting God's transformative power despite our weaknesses. 36:12 💔 Struggles with sin don't negate holiness, which is bestowed by God's grace. 39:01 🙏 The sacraments are visible signs that convey hidden divine mysteries, sanctifying believers. 41:07 💪 Holiness is achieved not through self-effort but by becoming God's property through the Holy Spirit's work. 43:08 🙏 Holiness requires recognizing belonging to God and transforming daily life into prayer. 44:16 🌟 Holiness is not just for monks or priests; people in everyday life can be holy through their actions and intentions. 45:40 💔 The tendency toward Pelagianism (self-reliance) exists, but humility and dependence on God are essential for true holiness. 48:01 🙇 Prayer is not about changing God's mind, but about allowing God to change our hearts and minds. 49:13 ✝️ Holiness is not about human achievement but about allowing God's grace to work in us through the sacraments. 50:35 🛡️ Holiness is about consecration to God, becoming His property, and letting the Holy Spirit work within us. 51:16 🚪 God's Spirit can move people even before baptism, but we cannot presume the workings of grace. 53:40 🙏 Sacraments make holiness possible, enabling us to want and pursue what God desires for us. 55:46 🌄 Developing a plan of life involving prayer, Mass, and consecration helps foster holiness. 58:02 🏃 Holiness journey is a marathon, not a sprint; growth comes through trials and suffering. 01:02:14 🎭 Suffering is a means of growth; Christ wants to heal our fear of suffering and our dread of death. 01:03:24 🙏 Holiness is diverse and not a one-size-fits-all concept; it's elusive and unique to individuals like Saint Jerome and Maximilian Kolbe. 01:03:51 🙌 Passion for holiness doesn't diminish with age or weakness; it can increase the chance of becoming holy. 01:04:37 📜 Holiness is received through grace and is united with keeping the Commandments, especially worshiping God, calling upon His name, and setting apart the Lord's day. 01:05:45 🛐 Religion calls for sacrifice and worship; the highest form of justice is religio, giving thanks and praise to God always and everywhere. 01:07:22 💔 God-intoxicated humility and honesty lead to offering our anxiety, worry, and weakness in prayer. 01:09:01 🤝 Loving neighbors as oneself is done for the love of God; this is the essence of holiness and righteousness. 01:10:52 🧠 Understanding the call to be perfect as God is perfect involves recognizing His merciful love, power, and patience in our imperfection. 01:14:20 🙏 Salvation is not earned through works; it's by grace and faith. Good works are expressions of faith and receptivity to Divine mercy. 01:18:28 🙌 Prayer is vital; it's where we live out our faith and connect with God's power, especially in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. 01:23:18 🕊️ Trent says that mortal sin can be avoided through exceptional grace, not by human effort alone. 01:24:13 🙏 Praying for sanctification and self-awareness to avoid betraying God. 01:24:40 🙌 Realizing God's commitment to sanctifying us brings comfort. 01:25:48 🕯️ Observing Advent traditions like candles, prayers, and hymns. 01:26:58 ❤️ Learning about holiness and virtue from friends and family. 01:28:09 🙏 Trusting God and praying for children who have left the faith. 01:30:13 📖 Explaining "Our Life, Our Sweetness, Our Hope" in the Hail Holy Queen refers to Mary. 01:32:05 🙌 Overcoming distractions during Rosary prayer with humility and trust. 01:32:46 🙅 Advising against attending weddings outside the Church, which contradicts Catholic beliefs. 01:36:12 🎉 Embracing the joy of the Catholic faith and living as a joyful example to family. 01:39:11 📚 Differentiating between penal substitution and vicarious satisfaction in atonement theology. 01:41:03 🙏 Seeking resources to better articulate Catholic views on atonement when talking to Protestant friends. 01:44:56 🌟 God's law is meant to perfect us through love, turning suffering into passion and sacrifice into love. 01:45:23 🌍 Christ reproduces his love in us, turning pain into passion, leading us to love God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength. 01:45:52 🤔 Misunderstanding of God's justice leads to misconceptions like penal substitution, where divine justice is seen as punishing Christ instead of satisfying the demand for love. 01:46:48 🛡️ The debt we owe to God is to love Him with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength, fulfilling divine justice through love, not legal fiction. 01:47:28 🕊️ Christ satisfies Divine Justice through vicarious satisfaction, uniting us to Him, and empowering us to love God as He has loved us. 01:47:55 💬 A need to challenge and rediscover the truth behind penal substitution, focusing on God's love perfected through the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. 01:48:51 📚 Passages like Isaiah 53 and 2 Corinthians 5 might seem to support penal substitution, but interpretations need to be carefully considered and understood in context. 01:50:14 💪 The need to recognize our own shortcomings and not take ourselves too seriously, relying on the grace of the sacraments and regular confession. 01:57:23 🏠 Steubenville, Ohio, showcases that cultural renewal doesn't solely rely on economic prosperity, but on a vibrant Catholic family subculture. 02:00:15 🎓 The Saint Paul Center for Biblical Theology is dedicated to promoting biblical literacy for laypeople and biblical fluency for clergy, transforming how scripture is understood and taught. 02:02:40 🎙️ Dr. Bergsma, a convert and former Protestant pastor, and his contributions to biblical education through the Saint Paul Center are acknowledged and celebrated. As to first 20 minutes, where Dr Hahn basically saying the vertical ( love for God above) , ie, the first three commandments, precedes and prepares and grounds the soul for loving his neighbor as outlined in last seven commandments. In this vein, recall Bonhoeffer’s cherished “ Jesus, a man for others” thematic thrust of Christ character WHEN Jesus himself was really first “a man for the Father” ie, Theo centric and not homocentric . All these observations from Allred Graham the English Benedictine, found in his “ Contemplative Christianity 1974.

I think the distinction Matt may have been looking for in the 2nd quarter of the discussion may have been to do with piety, rather than holiness. Christ makes us holy. That holiness can then be revealed (or not revealed) through pious action. Just because there is a lack of piety, it does not necessarily follow that there is a lack of holiness. in other words they share a correlative, but not necessarily causative relationship.

“Pride comes before the fall” “Unless the Lord builds the house, the workers labor in vain.” “First sell all you have and give it to the poor, then come and follow me.” So much comes flooding the mind when all of this is presented. More is truly less when it comes to holiness.

27:00 Original Sin and loss of holiness is why Christ finds the righteous patriarchs in limbo of Sheol - the highest expectation for pre-Incarnation men - and then takes them up to Heaven of the Beatific Vision that is opened first and forever by Christ.
