"The Art of the Flying Camera - Drone Masterclass" by Ted Nemeth is simply the best! Thank you Ted for all that you do for us here in the community. I am 10 years older than you. Though I've always had a creative mindset, and always thought I would be good at photography, I let the intimidation of the camera stop me. Quite frankly - it still does using a DSLR camera. It wasn't until my first drone in 2019 that I discovered just how much I enjoy photography. Especially from an aerial perspective. I'm discovering that drone shots don't necessarily have to be at a "high" altitude in order to get that nice "drone shot." Just elevate, acquire good composition and lighting - and BOOM - the shots are captured. Thank you again for your tireless work that you share with all of us. It does not go unnoticed. 🤙
I agree 100%, at 66 I am finding a part of myself I didn't know existed, wide eyed and bushy tailed as I send my drone into the sky. And the Masterclass .......simply perfect for me.
I also support what others are saying about the fantastic work Ted is doing in helping beginner drone cinematographers develop their skills. I truly appreciate the dedication and contagious enthusiasm Ted puts into all his videos. Like many others, I’m also enjoying his MasterClass - so educational and inspiring. As @parrotheadstx said, Ted’s efforts do not go unnoticed.
Budd! great to see you here brother. You will love my new episode on Friday. It is….gunna be a little controversial. ANd I give a big shout out to the USDS.
Hi Ted. Narrative is everything. We go out on some outdoor adventure and often we get great shots but have a time trying to put it all together into some sort of narrative that is compelling for the viewer, otherwise they click off. The real joy (after catching the footage) is stitching it together to tell an interesting story. Sometimes the finished story is completely different from what we had planned before we set out because nature and fortune are fickle.
Jeff thank you buddy. Let’s grab another coffee again soon. Where we met last time….did you realize the infamous “Boardy Barn” is right next door. Did you ever go there in your younger years?
@@TedNemeth Not really. Keep on doing what you do. Did into real cinematography knowledge as deep as you can. And such small details as "set your sticks and then dont move them until the clip is done, and keep filming a lot longer than you think because you dont know how you want to cut it later." Love how you skip all the equipment-bs :)
Another value-added video. Great explanations as to your intentional choices. I try to use some of these things in my videos, but it is hard to recall them when I am in the heat of the moment. Good job. I even watched your ad. That's how good I enjoyed this.
@@TedNemeth Ted, I'm glad you 'get it'. Flying can be fun and exhilirating but suddenly a wind, an object, a person interrupts that and BOOM, trouble. I try to keep the good moves in my head, but it's hard. I appreciate your style of putting that out. Enjoy the rest of this beautiful day.
@@TedNemeth mate its everything i didnt know i needed ha ha but seriously its fantastic for what i do, im now a complete film crew and production company in a bag with the osmo and the mini 4 for construction shoots etc. i can do walk and talk to the 4 using the osmo wireless mic, interviews and even get creative (not that they notice) half the time ha ha
Chris I loved your latest upload. 3 very distinct landscapes in 1 shot. Totally unique (to me). Never seen that. I see it’s located by Isle of Man. I’ll be there May 28th for 11 days to film a documentary about the motorcycle race. I’d love to buy you a pint!
@@TedNemeth Wow Ted! Brilliant, be good to meet up if we can. I have emailed you directly . Let me know if you don't get it please and we can probably find another way
Great content as always, random fact I spent the night on Half Dome in Yosemite pre-permit, we just woke up and decided to spend the night. Just some Ansel Adam vibes
@@TedNemeth Have you done any video regarding how the gear is not what makes the filmmaker? Because in this era we live in, if you play it cool online and flex your gear etc, apparently it makes you an amazing filmmaker online! And I have seen that these kinds of filmmaker get the most attention on the internet unfortunately. But there is something missing from all these people and their creations. Soul! I hope I explained it correctly. :) Have a great day!
got a UGreen card reader that's worked great over past year - 4:55 this looks like a good thing ✌🏻 - as always great tutorial so refreshing from what the rest of us do simply posting flights 😊
@@TedNemeth I did not make it to the SFDM, unfortunately, but did catch most during the livestream. - too funny though seeing those for whom you've mentioned on the "getting the latest, perfected, gear is their hobby" versus trying to perfect themselves within hobby they've entered. Great lessons, Ted, catch ya up stream ✌🏻
I have a super weird question about focusing!! Not the Camera! MEEE. Everytime I'm flying where there are people (most places right?) I always get super distracted by them and I can't shoot what I need or want to with peace and joy. It feels tense and as if I'm gonna be in big trouble with cops on the way anytime. I have my 107 and mini 3 pro but still it gets me everytime. Very hard to navigate that pressure. Any tips??
I know your problem and have suffered from curious but friendly onlookers who just want to chat. My solution is to bring a friend along to protect you from 'stranger danger' Someone who can deflect the curious - ideally a person who knows a bit about the hobby and the device and can answer questions and chat. For me it's my partner, but if that's not possible maybe just a friend who wants a trip along. Other than that, try to distance yourself as far as possible away from the crowds, but I know that' not always possible.
wow thank you! I don’t know how i missed this. It was 4 months ago. Super generous, I am truly grateful my friend. I checked out your channel. Loved that cloud timelapse.
so many good examples, do you do something special with your file organisation to have these readily available or did you spend a long time looking up all these shots?
hey my friend. I organize all my little b-roll clips like this: first I rename the clip with a bunch of different keywords that describe the clip. So no I can search for that clip by keyword if I need. Secondly I use the tag capability of the IPad Pro. So I created 14 different tags. For example they are: drone, city, beach, travel, charity, night, funny, ….etc. So now I can search for b-roll clips by category or search for specific keywords.
@@TedNemeth that sounds so good I bet you are glad you put in the effort when you need to find something. Maybe AI will get me in a similar spot eventually, I just have all my files in date folders, your system sounds way better! Do you do that as you ingest the footage or once you've finished editing? Thanks for the detailed reply man.
Hi Ted. Hopefully one day I'll do more then just takeoff and fly around. Last week we took our MP3's to the Shinnecock Canal. Haven't edited anything yet, but wondered if that jetty you're standing on is the one at the end of the canal.
@@TedNemeth We definitely want to go back to the canal when there is some activity on the water. I'm guessing those parking spots along the canal gets pretty busy during the season. Also looking for some good places further out east. Will surely let you know whenever we head out east. The canal is maybe about 30 min away from my home.
Great knowledge. Tripod shot/ocean at the beginning: How did you manage the drone flying away from you without having the controller in your hands :)? (Mini 3Pro). Greetings from EU
hey buddy. That was a Quickshot! using the ROCKET mode. I use Quickshots pretty frequently. I do NOT use active track modes because they always end up frustrating me because of the little micro corrections the camera makes while trying to keep me center frame. But Quickshots are always silky smooth. My “keeper rate” is like 99%
@@TedNemeth many thanks. Good one. Just the 10 bit flat image profil is not available there (I know you are not a fan;)). I like spotlight for that reason, but the joystick is needed. Thanks for your inspiration in general. Just started my YT journey and use the drone as one tool for story telling in the Global South (niko documents or @nico_docu).
Gordon thanks buddy. I think most people have a pretty marginal distaste for their politicians. Except North Korea of course. Just sheer majestic reverence. At least thats the veneer.
Ted. I think you need to create and publish Cue Cards on drone subject compiled to all your point of view for nonsense to avoid and sense to get....rember you takked about ND filter that basicly needed only 2 lenses rather that buy entire lenses for general public..why focus on auto than manual in most case...what cruicial drone movement to master from begining. ...something like that...simple to the point
yesssss. Marcus Aurelius & stoicism are so hot right now. I love this concept of drawing upon ancient wisdoms to solve modern mental health issues. I’m considering starting a second youtube channel based on this.
@@TedNemeth oh man! I see that I already commented this sentiment twice now! In my defense, it’s a solid testament to your skill in building such a channel. That said, I am a bit embarrassed that I didn’t realize that I had already expressed this belief last night. I’m sure that my hosting of our local bourbon club’s “Empty the Opens” event had something to do with my foggy remembery. LOL
@@TedNemeth Wow! Thank you for taking the time to take a look. I am brand new to drones ( as you can tell) but I am working to get better. Did you happen to see the Colorado/Utah video I uploaded? That was the first time I used the Mini 3 Pro. I just started your Drone Masterclass. I am really looking forward to learning and putting into practice. Thank you.
