While on vacation in Hawaii (Honolulu), I discovered the homeless situation. The majority of the homeless people I encountered were from the mainland, which is so sad. Thanks for using your channel to bring awareness, and for giving to the ones you've encountered. Much love ❤️

I've lived in west Oahu for 20 years and my wife is from El Salvador. My wife says although there are dangerous people in El Salvador, it is only in specific areas and you know where to avoid. But HERE, danger can reach out at you ANYWHERE and the homeless are everywhere. We are turning into California with our policies and problems, albeit on a smaller 1/40th scale. But we still love it here, and will likely stay if we can continue to afford it.

Im originally from Hawai’i, I live in Thailand now. For years there has been cities and states from the continental US that would give one way tickets to homeless people, often those who have drug or mental health issues. That has contributed to the homeless issues in Hawai’i. Another thing that many would not want to address is the military subsidies rent or home purchases driving housing costs for local residents, there needs to be an understanding that Hawai’i has a finite land and housing different than that of the continental US.

Its no secret that colder states would often pack up their homeless people get them warm clothes from Salvation army and goodwill and put them on a plan with a few hundred and let them enjoy the warm weather in Honolulu, go see who's in the homeless shelters. the population of homeless start to increase after the first snows in the mainland of USA.

My story; After 12 years of homelessness in Honolulu, I'm housed now. The 12 years was a God given adventure I treasure. I was a federal professional, a bank loan processor, property manager, civil servant, then encountered domestic violence and ran away to Hawaii. The nonprofit agency, Safe Haven, monitored me, and eventually helped me with temp housing.

At 22:11...that is the Ala Wai Canal, and its job is to take fresh rainwater from the mountains and dump it into the ocean. Before the canal was constructed, the rainwater would drain into the Waikiki area making it a swamp land instead of the beautiful beach you see today. The water is brackish which means it's a mixture of fresh and saltwater.

Being born and raised in Hawaii I love that you exposed our homeless problem. Some of these people in the ala Moana, Waikiki area that you stoped and asked questions are super mellow compared to some of the more common folk who roam the area who are super unstable, unpredictable and sometimes violent just because you walked past them too closely. I always question how they got credentials to buy a plane ticket to Hawaii. Most of these guys where Homeless before they got here, they would need a credit card. Even if for some reason they were gifted the flight ticket they’d still need a valid form of identification on person to check in. If you’ve ever booked a flight and went through a check in at an airport youd know how much of a hassle just buying a ticket and checking in through tsa is, you’d probably raise the same question too if some of these people sat next to you on the airplane. Who TF is sending these people to Hawaii that is were you need to start looking, the people doing this are just pushing them along a never ending vacation and not getting them the help they desperately need.

Sorry but Gladys is wrong. She said she doesn’t see homelessness in other countries than she does in the US. That’s cause these other countries are second and 3rd world. They are already living poverty life. So she’s completing for saying that the US looks like a third world country. It’s gonna look bad of course cause our homelessness is very evident in AFFLUENT areas…which you guys travel to and show. Hawaii is the most expensive state. Of course you are gonna see it night and day Why focus so deeply on looting my and negativity and start talking about the positives of these topics

I do appreciate your extended comments on the homeless issue here in Hawaii. It's true, it exists here. You hadn't seen the 'worst' of it. I'm looking forward to watching your other travel presentations as I know now to trust them as I saw how you depicted my home island and hope to come across you on your future visit here. Not likely, as I would imagine you would be probably taking in Maui next. Maui had a toned-down Waikiki vibe. The "Big Island", the actual island name is Hawaii, is more laid back and Kauai is even more so. I'm biased but there are incredible sights on any of the Islands. BTW, liked and subscribed with the ringy-dingy to this channel..

Mainland gives homeless a one way ticket to Hawaii which is why Hawaii is getting more and more expensive because we have to pay for their medical and food stamps. We locals all end up paying and government doesn’t want to take measures to stop organizations from sending them here. It’s affecting tourism, we can’t take care of the homeless because there’s too many and not enough land to build on. What makes it worse is most are mentally ill attacking tourist and the elderly.

Locals cant afford to live in the place we were born and raised and mainlanders come for a better "homeless experience" meaning they think its better to be homeless in Hawai'i than anywhere else. The addiction crisis is also the thing that puts all of this over the top. This is nothing new, as housing and homelessness has been an issue for many years, my aunt being homeless 30 yrs ago when I was very little. I'm glad u had wonderful expectation about Oahu but not everywhere is completely amazing. Still I wish I could raise my children there, like many other locals who live on the mainland wish too.

And your comment is absolutely not true. No one's flying the houseless to Hawaii unless it's through a program that's transports people back to wherever their family already is and they have guaranteed housing there. No one randomly ships the houseless to Hawaii. Republican governors (Texas in particular)have been sending houseless and people living without documentation to liberal states by bus, and this is well documented, but mostly New York and California.

Malls in America has been dying out for a while now, a lot of old malls I used to go to have been very empty. A lot of it has to do with online shopping and society becoming more online and less social.

The UK also has a major problem with homeless people. Addiction and unemployment has sky rocketed since 2020. I also started to notice that things were starting to get bad in 2016. There's an ex service man who fought for the country and he's just been tossed to one side and completely disregarded by the Govt. Whenever I happen to see him, I make a point of giving him money along with getting him some food and drinks. The entire system is specifically devised to fail people and it only seems to benefit the Parliamentarians. It's so sad to see so many innocent lives being destroyed. Over here in the UK we have services that only offer lip service. There's a lot of money to be made from the unemployed, long term sick, the homeless and disabled by profit organisations that receive govt funding. There's so much corruption to the point were it sickens me to the back stomach.

Wow, this Hawaii video showed up on RU-vid. I have been watching you on FB with your travels in Cambodia. A belated welcome! Off topic, but yes those 2 strip clubs (Club Femme Nu and Club Rock-za) are two of the most popular and in business for decades on Oahu.

You're not even showing the really bad parts. This is just mild. It's totally sad. I can't even go to a park in Honolulu without dealing with homeless. There are so many organizations out there trying to help but most don't want the help they'd rather stay homeless

Homelessness got especially bad during/after the pandemic mainly due to the loss of income/jobs, but also many people started taking fentanyl/tranq. I live in West LA and it used to not be this bad but now homeless people in every corner of the streets. It’s really sad because this country is supposed to be the top, rich country that many people dream to come but in reality it’s even worse than being in the 3rd world country. High cost of living and the lack of government supports for the homeless people is now destroying our major cities such as LA, SF and Honolulu. I cant even imagine walking around the city and go anywhere without seeing homeless people blocking the streets or getting high off drugs. Something you would never see in countries like Japan or New Zealand.

I have traveled around the world but in San Francisco where I live, the homeless, crime, violence is worse than anywhere I've been. I'm with you Chris, my goal is to move to South East Asia. Despite being developing countries, the people are respectful, peaceful, and no one is begging.

A lot of the other States send their homeless here to Hawaii. They buy them one way tickets here. Because the weather is sunny all year round.

We have been trying to talk about it, but the state makes it all hush hush and sweeps everything under the rug so their tourism can continue to thrive and they can continue to make Hawaii dependent on the US states. They send the troublesome homeless people to Hawaii promising them jobs and a place to live. When they arrive here there is nothing here for them, but the sunshine and rain. I grew up talking to a lot of the homeless people on my home island because they used to congregate in front of our bus stops and at the parks. A lot of them have very similar stories.

I was in Waikiki 10 years ago and there was a real homeless problem then. This is not a new issue. Such a shame that nothing has changed. I saw a whole cardboard city under a bridge when I went on a coach tour. I was horrified. There are a lot of people high on various drugs.

It also seems as if most of the homeless are American citizens from the mainland who came out to Hawaii and was not able to make it happen for themselves. I think that indigenous people from the island of Hawaii don’t have much of a homeless problem amongst their communities/and people? I don’t really know if that’s true or not?

Homelessness is a SERIOUS PROBLEM, all across the country. It needs to be addressed by the GOVERNMENT. Where do our taxes go?? How much money did the military industrial complex spend every year??? 🤔 I bet you it's enough to end all poverty and homelessness with enough left over to start to tackle medical and mental health issues. I TRULY LOVE YOU ALL. STAY SAFE
