My 2008 Rancher that I bought brand new still has the original battery in it. I have only had one part fail on mine. After running it hard on a hot day, it would go into de-rate mode and I would have to shift all the way down to 1st gear to even move. In the evenings when it was cool out it had all the power in the world. It turned out to be a weak fuel pump. $135. That was a design flaw on these that there was no heat shield between the engine and fuel pump and the fuel would vaporize at the fuel pump and cause losses of power. New fuel pump has worked great for 7 years now.
When any gas machine has set for some considerable time, I strongly recommend getting a cheap hand pump from Harbor Freight and pump the tank as empty as possible and replace with fresh fuel BEFORE you attempt to start the unit. Old gas can screw up a lot of things from your pump to injectors/ carburetors, filters . If the fuel has any varnish smell to it or just don’t smell like gas and you even suspect the gas could be bad?? Pump it out and replace it before you do anything else. Been there done that. Also , you need to keep those fuel tanks full of treated fuel thru the winter, other wise condensate forms in the tank and now you have water in your fuel, next comes algae, then corrosion. Follow Barney’s advice. Nip it in the Bud !
Tberes supoose ti be a fikter on the shutoff valve that goes in the tank. Almost all if his is missing. Alot of people I know have had problems witg the gas eating them uo abd clogging tge outlet line up. I have 2 - 2010 model's that both did it. Run bon ethanol gas only or ut will be rma reoccurring problem. .
So like I know this is 4 years later but I need help my quad the two lights on the right red and yellow don’t turn on at all but the batter is nothing wrong with it I I need help pls
great video as usual. i have several questions and need lots of help from you if you don't mind. first; that tube that's coming out off the fill tank and looks like its going into the instrument cluster what is is for ? second is there a bracket inside the air box. why i'm asking is because i was given a 420 rancher like yours but it's all apart and i am trying to put it back together. get back to me if you don't mind thank you
@@mjmcomputers i will take a picture and show it to you and maybe you can help me figure out where it goes. also that long air tube on the side of the throttle body or carb. that connects to the air box itself that's off also trying to figure that out also
I had a bike that did the same thing it was the carburetor was what was wrong with mine it wouldn’t get enough fuel plus I don’t think that the key has anything to do with it not getting gas from the sound of it just trying to get fuel but it’s not getting any fuel to the carburetor
My 2008 rancher 420 runs great for the first 20 minutes or 30 then starts bogging at high rpm then doesn’t even want to move until it cools off again. What the hell can this be?. a mechanic I had work on it supposedly replaced fuel pump and injectors, and water pump. Ran good for about two weekends, then went back to the same issue.. I repeat when it’s cold runs great for about 20 or 30 minutes then starts bogging, then slowly stops running. It gets going again once it cools down.
@@mjmcomputers my man, I'm struggling to get mine started, I pulled the fuel.line at the carb, and fuel spilled out... assumed the peacock wasn't plugged. Mines older, no pump, just gravity to the carb. Is the peacock a pain to replace?
We had to replace pet cock but had a horrible time removing it! It is bolted to tank and can't get the screws inside. Ended up messing the fuel tank up. Did all of that and my 2007 Rancher still isn't running 😕
