Stars: Mickey Rooney, Anne Nagel, Frank Shields Director: William Nigh A schoolteacher comes to a new town and finds herself caught up in the town's problems and disputes.
Mickey Rooney was a great actor! He was excellent in this early effort. And what a career: movie dramas, comedies, musicals and television. A career that started as a child actor and continuing to his early adult and later adult years. Amazing, awesome!!
Very interesting movie which showed the effects of PTSD and also showed the importance of labor rights. Before they knew about how to treat PTSD it was called shell shocked. Not all understood it could lead to substance abuse or that it could trigger a flashback as the movie depicted. Management and labor settle dispute but Cap loses life in the process. Thanks Pizza!
This movie grappled with insights significant. PTSD, how character can either be forged or destroyed expressed by both the boy and his father. I liked the values this film advocated.
It is very sad how people have treated world war heroes who come home sick and traumatized for all the violence they have been involved in, and things have not changed much today.
This was a treat. I didn't remember this movie so it was new to me.More kids should see this movie to see what real loyalty looks, and sounds like. They really don't makem like this any more. Simple and sweet and heartfelt. Thanks again Pizza Felix for bringing us the best Oldies ! 🎭 🤗 👌🙋🏽
I so agree with you Billie , things sure arent like they use to be. This is an era, that we will never see again, & thanks to Pizza Flix for the old movies, that they have shared ,& continue to share , can we relive the beautiful faded memories of the past !
THIS IS ALSO MY FIRST TIME TO SCREEN AND ENJOY THIS MICKEY ROONEY PICTURE, BILLIE!! IT WAS NEVER TELEASED HERE IN MANILA THEATERS..WHAT A HELL OF STAR!!! FROM CHILD TO ADULT PLAYING VARIED ROLES WITH VERSATILITY!!! MUCH OBLIGED FOR THE UP-LOAD!!
What a great character! I found myself moved to the tears by the boy's sad scenes. And fun with his dancing and many other highlights among nice co -actors and actresses. Thanks.
*I promise upon everything that's holy........Mickey Rooney and the precious people who made these classic films way back then...they achieved the greatest accomplishment that they could possibly fulfill. How? By creating a masterpiece...a work of art in the film industry in the spirit of fair workmanship, professionalism and honor...mixed with just right amount of love and good honest effort!!! The BEST part about it ALL is the clear fact that the reason why Hollywood was so successful back in the day and they're not so much nowadays...is because films back then had "HEART" and "FEELING" and "UNDERSTANDING" too. Ahhh!!!........How I wish that I had a REAL time machine...I'd go back to the 30s, 40s & 50s and I GUARANTEE you 3 details that would be TOTALLY different than they are in this day and age: (1) I'd have at least ONE TRUE FRIEND, (2) I may not have had a lot of money back in the day, but as my mom told me so many times: "Son, we didn't have much money, but we had LOVE." and now the BEST for last, but certainly not least (3) I sure as H3ll and Heaven wouldn't be still single at age 37!!! Most people didn't believe that their children should WAIT til they're 40 years old to ACTUALLY go out to dinner and a movie with an eligible young adult lady. Bye, nobody ever talks to me anyway. Everybody HATES MY GUTS because I'm a GODDAMN WHITE AMERICAN MAN...is what it.......HU?!?!?!?! Well, if it is then...YOU CAN GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!*
Wow! This was a really good movie.. There's not much more i can as about. Mickey Rooney was awesome and the rest of the actors made this movie all the more brilliant.
So his father whom was shunded by the whole town sacrificed his life, unknownigly to end the strike.... A REAL SOLDIER....SAD STORY. ....from a 74 year old sentinel.... born in INDIANAPOLIS, IND now living in run down BROOKLYN, NEW YORK....
Pizzaflix. How did I miss this movie? Men were men and women were women, and actors were actors. The harsh realities of the evil actions of men are countered by the good side of men. We are half savages and half angels. Hubris is our Achilles heel.
Remembering Mickey Rooney born on September 23, 1920. He was an American actor. In a career spanning nine decades, he appeared in more than 300 films and was among the last surviving stars of the silent-film era. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mickey_Rooney
Wow, Mickey Rooney was certainly slumming here. No idea he had worked at Monogram. The very same year he would hit gold with "Andy Hardy" at MGM and be one of the biggest at that elite studio. (Nothing against this movie, which I really enjoyed).
Mickey was bitten by a rattlesnake in Arizona in 1961 and he almost died so he found a queen ant and started an ant colony and he said that this gave him hope for the world and he loved snakes.. 🌎🌎🌍⚰️🏃🏃🏃✝️✝️🐜🐜👑👸🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍
WHEN FINANCIAL CLASS DETERMINED WHAT SIDE OF THE TRACK'S ONE'S PLACE SHOULD BE ON *** WHERE UPPER CLASS SOCIETY WERE SAID TO BE RESPECTABLE WITH HIGH MORAL VALUES AND VIRTUE'S THAT GRANTED THEM THE PRIVILEGE TO LOOK DOWN ON HARD WORKING LOW INCOME FAMILIES STRUGGLING TO FIND THEIR PATH TO A BETTER LIFE FOR THEIR FAMILIES ***
The actress who played the school teacher affected a pseudo British accent. British actor David Niven, in his biography ‘The Moon’s a Balloon’ mentioned the trend of Hollywood actors in the 30’s doing this. He was amused and somewhat embarrassed by it I think.
I have so many mixed emotions after viewing this flick. The bully called his father a communist! That's worth a whack. Then, his father dies while scabbing as a strike breaker. And, the spoiled rich kid just man handels the the teacher. She should have KHATF-out. Sharky was railroaded by the school board that RESPECTS the clout heavy milk man. I could get a masters on this film.
I remember watching all the Mickey Rooney movies with my Gramps when I was little. I came across this one and remember the tears he had in his eyes and I didn't understand then. He was a Marine and PTSD was not recognized back then. This movie made me cry and now I am in search of all the movies I can that we watched together. I love and miss him so much xoxo
I find it amazing what talent young Mickey Rooney had. His characters were extremely natural and believable. That kind of talent is difficult to find, even in adults.
Older movies always had a plot to them. Movies now days are only violence with guns shooting children and strangers. Glad we can still access real movies, such as this one! 👍
Mickey Rooney was one of the most prolific and successful stars in Hollywood for years. I recall when, as an elder gent, he foolishly appeared on letterman; he laid his talented hand on letterman's sleeve during conversation and "dave-the-shumck" acted as though Mickey had leprosy and jerked his arm away saying, "DON'T TOUCH ME!" I'll never forget that creep's attempt to humiliate a man who was tenfold the talent that ol' pukish dave would ever be!
Lived thru a milk strike as a little boy. Remember seeing them dump the big cans of milk out on the grass. All i could do was Cry. I hate non fat dry milk to this day.
Mickey Rooney is an amazing actor. I can't think of any other child actor who grew up continuing to act into old age. I love him in The Black Stallion! He is truly a great actor!
Another great movie, Pizza Flix, Thanks so much ! Im going to start rewatching the past movies youve provided, and continue to watch the new ones you upload ! They are all fantastic ! No doubt about it , keep them coming , your the best old movie channel on YT ❤😘
PTSD. It seems that in war, even innocent people can get caught in the crossfire and it must weigh on the consciences of people. If the soldiers were confident that they were only destroying bad people, would they feel bad about it, or feel good knowing that they have taken wicked people from the earth - in order to preserve the good?
They just rushed that ending. It's like well we need a dramatic ending - father stops drinking, gets a job, runs the truck off the side of the road because of the strikers, but it settles the strike, Mickey is still sad but relieved to live with his father being the "hero" of the situation, goes to live with somebody - all in under a minute, abrupt ending, show some flowers, now get out of the theater.
Are you kidding...12:30 stepping into a fight like that the teacher definitely would have been punched in the face. Just saying. And the new teacher telling the principal in front of Shockey that she isn't being fair...? Good way to get fired on your first day. Lol.
@silverbush B: Certainly that would apply to these days. Manners and general respect for one another is practically dead. It's all about 'what can I get'.
