Many will disagree, but as a child of the eighties, I can honestly say that no other musical era comes even close! I am now 46 years old and I am still stuck musically in that wonderful decade, unable to move on!

The Hooters and Big Country are two of my favorite and underrated bands of the 80's. Both bands have urgency to their vocals..and their use of non-rock instruments (fiddle and bag pipes) just add so much. Love these guys!

“Satellite” by the Hooters resonated with the listeners who were up to their eyeballs as I was with the Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggart scandals in 1987. It also resonates with those of us who have followed the excesses of Paul and Jan Crouch, Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, Joel Osteen, Paula White, and the rest of the hot air artists trying to sell salvation through them, instead of preaching salvation through Jesus Christ. When these hucksters of holiness have their meeting with God in the hereafter and exclaim “Lord, didn’t we preach in Your name?”, He will say “Depart from Me, I never knew you”. Private jets? Mansions? Luxury cars? Air-conditioned shelters for cats and dogs? Really?

I'm Irish, and I love this band from Philadelphia. A message of meaning and purpose in the evangelical church and exploitations of people, as important today, as it was then, and I'm catholic. I call a spade, a spade. Love this song, has that carnival like American keyboard style fused with a Scottish like rock, guitar riff from the band Big Country. Because THIS video captures, perhaps more than any other song or video from the 1980's or 1990's, the inherent ridiculousness of tele-evangelism that pervaded that era. I'm not slamming Robertson...but honestly, he trucked in this sort of product, and the Hooters quite frankly exposed it all for what it was in this song. :)

Re: Your Tweet asking for memories from 31 years ago: My dad let me take a day off from school to wait in line for concert tickets in Pittsburgh. You guys were touring with Bryan Adams but I only wanted to see you. Then you performed at Allegheny College in NW PA. My sister was a student there so I went up to see you guys perform. As we were walking back to her dorm after the show, we saw your bus and some people standing near it. We went to join them, and one by one you guys came out of the bus to talk with us & take pics with us. This was way before cell phones, but luckily I met a great person who took pics of me with you guys and she promised to mail them to me, which she actually did. I know this is a long (and boring lol) story but you guys meant everything to me and brought so much happiness to me. Each of you took the time to talk to your fans that night and made us feel like the most special people on the planet. I will never forget that evening and how much it meant to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. My dad & sister have both passed away from cancer but they will forever be a part of this story.

I swear I'm not exaggerating: This song was the gate to my own individual musical pathway when I randomly discovered 'One Way Home' in a public library at the age of maybe 8 and simply went for it because something about the cover art must have looked interesting. What a journey it was (and still is); now I listen to anything with soul from Jazz, Classic, Progressive Metal, Drum and Bass, 50/60s Pop, 80/90s Rock and so much more, I play the trumpet, the guitar, the piano and I DJ ... and I'm literally not exaggerating attributing a huge chunk of all of that to This One Song staying with me since then over 15 years ago now and gives me goosebumps every single time I listen to it ... Fkn amazing, Cheers boys.

When I first heard this back I don't know when ( 1987/8 I think ? ) I was in a bad place really having lost really close members of family .From the opening " shock " verve coupled with the innocence of a young girl stumbling on the hypocrisy of evangelism it almost felt like I was in the position of the young girl in the video emotionally/ life speaking. The lyric's " Jump in the river and learn to swim " were a real catalyst, realizing that in the end it was me that had to cope and me that had to deal with everything and carry on, which I think ( know ! ) I have. I still visit and listen to this song and it gives me as much enthusiasm as when I first heard the song at 04:00 in the morning back then on MTV before going to work down the mine. I am now in a very different and more positive place and would like to personally thank the Hooter's for the guidance that the song/ video and lyrics's gave to me and my " now " family.

Love this song I often get 80's songs pop into my head but this has to be the weirdest one I literally haven't heard it for 30 years then one day I find myself singing it word for word awesome

The Hooters ARE a Christian band in some respects, inasmuch as they are Christians, so far as I can tell, but they can't stand US-style fundamentalism and evangelicalism. I mean, in a similar way you can make the case that Nick Cave is a Christian singer, but he has a very complicated relationship with Christianity.

Omg. This came out when I was 7. I remember it well. It became one my favorites instantly. I can't believe I forgot about it. I just found it again. It brought tears to think I forgot all the good times back then. And to think our future generations will never know the freedom and fun we had.😞😞😣😭

I'm a hardcore lover of the Lord Christ Jesus and proud Christian brother and I must and will say, BRILLIANT!. The message of the Gospel is Grace and the Lord's voice is true, it's just that not ALL messengers of the Word can be trusted is all. Can't believe that this video is close to 30 years ago back.

That's where pure, unadulterated Faith directly comes into the picture. I needn't anything called 'luck', the Lord says in Isaiah 65, that there is a Sword waiting for those who believe in fortune (luck), and destiny. The Lord will destine the Sword of the Lord for those that falsely believe in luck & destiny! Anyways, I have no need for humanist secularistic knowledge, like a heathenistic pagan like yourself. "PSALMS 14:1" "The fool sayeth in his heart, there is no God" You have the need for proof, I have the love, truth, faithfulness, and eternal salvation from my Saviour, the Christ Jesus! ! !

none of that mumbo jumbo is proof. just a lot of psycho babble that youve been brainwashed with. if it helps you sleep at night, awesome. im warm and cozy in my evil, fluffy pagan bed:) nitety nite crazy zealot!

Well it's all fine with me if your Great-great-great-great Grandaddy swam in a pool of gunky unformed 'jellyfish', then decided to jump out the muck, unto land. Then up popped some formless beast who grown two ( or perhaps more?)lengthy protrusions for propulsion. Done spotted a giant root of some sort, fibrous mostly, decided to climb upon this fibrous limb. For NO other reason than to swing to and fro', back and forth. All the while yelling and screaming in powerful yet a totally unknown gutteral utterances. All the while banging repeatedly upon the now extremely hirsute chestal area. If you want to call the theory of Evolutions main star your strong relative. Go Right Ahead! I have all the proof I need. The Holy Fathers WORD! Now, say what do you claim? You ignorant secular humanist. The worthy Lamb of God, slain before the foundation of the world. Who WAS, Who IS, And Who is to Come! These come from the Word. Where does your filth come from? Your own depraved, sinful, sick, and unforgiven destined to perish without Christ lonely body of skin & flesh. You need Christ and His touch. Only HIS!
