Have always liked this one. Think it's the perfect link between M R James (who's stories Benson actually listened to being read by Monty James at Christmas. At least on a few occasions) and Lovecraft. Also you've got to love a good 'these are the trolls of folklore/monster story. Brilliant reading by Jasper. Big thanks for it.😊

I really loved that he wrote 'short brown teeth' instead of long ones. Brilliantly read as ever and a great story. Would be interesting to know what people were talking about at the time he wrote it re how the world was evolving socially. ❤️

This is an amazing story! The narration is fantastic! E.F. Benson sure as heck knew how to write. I really like this story. I love how the story combines geography, legend, lore, exploration, adventure, and horror. The music and sounds are amazing, as usual. Great job!

Oh my! That was fantastic!!! I’ve been looking forward to this all day. Had to delay until I had a quiet moment to just sink into your story. It’s a testament to your talents that I postpone listening to your videos until i can give you my complete and utter attention. I don’t want to miss a word! Thank you Jasper !!! I listen to quite a few ‘story tellers’ on the ‘tube and I find that Jasper’s narrations of ghoulish tales have a little bit of extra oddness about them…which I love

Not only are your readings (ahem) sublime, but your mixing and sound design is fantastic. And I generally hate sound effects.

Thanks Rohan. I know a lot of people dislike the music and sound effects, but I think they can be useful for atmosphere and just to create a nice "bed" for the narration track. Blame the fact that I grew up listening to storybook tapes and never really grew out of them! To be honest though, this one ended up being a bit effects-heavy. Glad you enjoyed it.
