The Horrors at Hardhome

Once the closest thing to a town in the lands beyond The Wall, something terrible and mysterious befell Hardhome about 600 years ago. It has since become an overgrown ruin, shunned and considered accursed… Yet despite that, it is suddenly important again - as hordes of refugees flee there, following the dreams of a woods witch. As reports reach Jon of wights in the woods and waters, dreams reach Melisandre of an impossibly cold mist turning the Free Folk into skulls. What the heck happened all those years ago? And what the heck is happening there now? Could this be how the Others get their army?

If you haven’t already! You should do one of these podcasts about the Mormonts just like you did with the Manderlys and Karstarks before, I think that would be super cool and people would enjoy it! And maybe one about the Iron Islands, that would also be super cool! I love hearing the books version of Game of Thrones, I’d love to hear more of your ideas and theories about the Iron Islands!

Jon really has to send the rescue mission, as he sent them to Hardhome, and needs to try to save the black brothers, and the Braavosi ships, even if he can’t save the free folk. As Brienne says ‘no chance, and no choice’.

Mel must’ve had another vision as well, because she tells Jon all the ships will be lost. I do wonder if she is confusing Eastwatch with Oldtown here, as it seems likely she is with the crumbling towers by the sea vision. But she certainly thinks no-one is coming back. Another one to chew over…fans have speculated whether the Braavosi navy will ever become involved in Westeros. I recall when it was referenced heavily in F&B it was called ‘Chekhov’s navy’. Would a couple of ships belonging to the Iron Bank limping back into Braavos to tell their tale get a reaction from the Sealord? Would the Faceless Men be troubled by the undead? After all, All Men Must Die…

Gr8 vid! Note on tidal waves bc i love them: largely an anachronistic term, more properly referred to as rogue waves, and are different from tsunami-initiated swells in ocean level, accompanied by large waves. Rogue waves are misunderstood but thought to maybe be caused by the interaction of air pressure and tidal energy, similar to that which creates wind. One of the least understood natural phenomena on our planet :D they were only accepted into the western scientific canon in the 19th century, before that they were thought of as "sailor tales"!
