The enigmatic expanse known as the Unknown Regions has long captivated the imaginations of explorers and scholars throughout the galaxy. Situated on the fringes of known space, these regions have remained a vast and uncharted territory cloaked in mystery and danger, even 25,000 years after the widespread colonization that preceded the Clone Wars
Several theories have attempted to explain why the Unknown Regions have largely resisted exploration and mapping. A prominent hypothesis suggested that a dense cluster of dark matter intersected the galaxy in this area. This dark matter, it was theorized, caused gravitational anomalies known as the tangle that severely complicated navigation. These gravitational phenomena may not be entirely natural either. An intriguing proposition holds that this barrier was an intentional construction by an ancient and powerful civilization known as the Celestials. This theory holds considerable weight, as the Unknown Regions is the dwelling place of numerous dark entities and malevolent creatures that pose a significant threat to the wider galaxy. Among these ominous beings are the Mangall-Mgnall, the droid creations of the Iokath, and the mysterious star werids.
In today's holocron entry, we delve deeper into the reasons why travel to the Unknown Regions is advised against. Join us as we venture into one of the galaxy's most perplexing and dangerous frontiers, exploring the strange and nightmarish creatures contained within this mysterious region
At the top of the list of disturbing phenomena in the Unknown Regions is Mnggal-Mnggal, a being whose very nature and origins are shrouded in profound mystery. Mnggal-Mnggal is so unique that it defies comparison even with the extensive species catalogs of institutions like the University of Sanbra. Some, including the Chiss, believe it to be of extra-dimensional origin, drawing parallels to other enigmatic entities such as Waru. According to its own accounts, Mnggal-Mnggal is ancient enough to have existed alongside the Celestials and witnessed their sudden departure from the galaxy. Some speculate that the hyperspace anomaly bisecting the galaxy, which separates the densely populated galactic disk from the Unknown Regions, might have been created by the Celestials, possibly as a defensive measure against the malevolent and infectious nature of Mnggal-Mnggal.
Mnggal-Mnggal itself is a being composed entirely of a thick, gray ooze. It possesses remarkable mobility and the ability to shapeshift into various forms. Although it cannot create complex disguises like the Shi'ido species, its shapeshifting abilities are nonetheless versatile and formidable. Mnggal-Mnggal can form pseudopods and eyestalks to explore or interact with its surroundings, and it can transform into more menacing shapes, such as a fanged mouth, to attack. It also has the ability to break apart its mass, spreading itself in worm-like forms or even taking to the air by forming bat-like creatures.
The most deadly aspect of Mnggal-Mnggal, however, is its method of infecting and controlling sentient beings. It prefers sentient hosts and can quickly take over a victim once they encounter a pool of Mnggal-Mnggal. The entity's body explodes outward, showering the victim with droplets that seek entry through the mouth, nostrils, or even pores. Once inside, Mnggal-Mnggal consumes the victim's brain and internal organs, effectively killing the host within twenty-four hours while using the body as a vessel for its own expansion.
But taking over the body of its victim wasn’t its main goal. The Mnggal-Mnggal found a perverse joy in the torment and consumption of sentient beings and seemed to derive a twisted nourishment not just from the physical substance of its victims but also so from their agony and despair. As it slowly digested its victim, it would orchestrate nightmarish scenarios, each more cruel and heart-wrenching than the last. In one such horrific act, it repeatedly reunited a bereaved mother with the reanimated remains of her young child, a twisted cycle of hope and despair that played out over and over.
Some, under its influence, found themselves opening the airlocks of their spacecraft, exposing themselves to the merciless vacuum of space. Others were tricked into deactivating critical defenses like perimeter fences, leaving their communities vulnerable to attack.
Here at Vader’s Fortress, we believe it is possible that the Mnggal-Mnggal's could have had a connection to the Force. Perhaps it was attuned to the dark side, drawing power from the fear and suffering it inflicted. Ot alternatively, given its supposed extra-dimentional origin, it may be linked to an even more obscure and terrifying anti-Force, a concept we explored in more depth in last weeks video.

I feel like the unknown regions are like our Earths oceans, what the hells could exist out there.

The Starweird are the least of anyone's concerns in the horrifying depths of the unknown regions. Ancient Sith Spirits , Sith Cultists, and worlds lost to the time of the old republic await any wary travellers. The Rakatan empire had many worlds under their control, including one's with horrifying Sith Mutations , the Nekghoul being the prime example, the homeworld of the Rakghoul is rumoured to be in the unknown regions cut off after the jedi wiped all records of these events after the great hyperspace war.

I always love when any franchise adds some deep lore that is utterly horrific. It's always fun to learn about this thing or event that happened before the main story that scares me in some sorta way.

The Unknown Regions are like any number of anomalies and hazards that can be found in Star Trek, but R-Rated. "Alien despots hell-bent on killing us? Deadly spaceborne viruses and bacteria? Incomprehensible cosmic anomalies that could wipe us out in an instant!"

one method i use as a means to include sith purebloods in modern star wars RPs and such they hid their knowing that most species and casual exploration wouldn't be able to find them their which also forged certain impurities out of their culture that i partly believe was at least amplified by the dark jedi. such as making them much more unified to survive in such a dangerous region as well as potentially through survival of the fittest also make them even more powerful then they were both through further weeding out the weak and dumb but also maybe resorted to alchemy and genetic modification to enhance the survivability of their species. with mainly just keeping spies and infiltrators being their main interaction with the wider galaxy to keep a eye on events but also get a hold of resources and tech when able some versions of this idea have also been slowly trying to alter and erase galactic historical records in regards to them partly as a means to explain legends star wars history and the current one the sith were erasing themselves from any records they could get ahold of which would also adjust and erase many other parts of history. Also given they likely remember what adas did to the rakata they might finish the job in part takeover any territory the rakata still control if anything cause those worlds would likely be habitable and unknown by other factions potentially

Wouldn’t the creepy creeps within the Unknown fear or get beat up by creepier creeps? Or is there some kind of an understanding to pick only on outsiders? The Randites who can imprison people within their minds with the power of the Force, and torment them with horrors eternal, seem like a particularly nasty sect. I think I’ll go around, and not use the region as a shortcut. Maybe I missed this, but how did they get there? Were they originally cast there as some sorts of prisoners? Is it the region that’s haunted, or did its inhabitants make it so? Can and do they go into the known regions to seek souls? Is there a hyperspace component to their existence? Are they spacefaring and have technology? (I guess the Laths were, to the extreme.). So many questions! It seems like a Dark Side clearinghouse there - is that what keeps the Force balanced? I thought the mention of an (or ‘the’) anti-Force was interesting; I’ll have to check out your other documentary. I like how supposedly the “Celestials ‘de-powered’ and ‘relocated’ the…” to secure the Kilix…very British use of the word ‘de-powered!’ 😊. The Celestials must have been quite the race. Are there any stories written that details their origin and heyday story? Do they still exist?

Is there a grand timeline of the SW galaxy, at a very high level, the starts with the beginnings of intelligent life all the way up to the Story’s ‘present?’ Oh, and is there any extra-galactic travel in the SW Storyline at all? Maybe from the migration from other galaxies way, way back? I remember seeing a doc that implied an SDI could travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda in three…can’t remember - three days, weeks, years. Does the galaxy have a proper name like ours, the Milky Way?

I'd like to think that theres a Warhammer40k-esque pocket universe of events taking place in the unknown region, and to protect the rest of the galaxy, the force segregated it. 😂😂😂

You should’ve added the Chiss. Because as a species of near-humans with no special attributes, aside from infrared vision and slightly higher intelligence, they built the most stable government capable of fighting off threats that would end all life in the Core, Mid and Outer Rims.

The reason why abeloth became extremely OP was because she drank from the pool of knowledge in star wars high potential+knowledge=POWER if Disney wouldn't had canceled the EU we would have the super natural encounters books and learn more about king adas the rakatas tulak hord ajunta pall Karnes murr xoxox ect
