An original piece of music for the Silmarillion Film Project podcast with the Tolkien Professor. Hador was the father of a great line of heroes. The text in this video is from The Silmarillion, The Children of Hurin and from the script outline developed by the SilmFilm Script team.
Musically this piece starts with a minor section indicating Hador’s innate abilities and leadership and a major section indicating his relationship with the Noldor and their influence on his development. Each section starts softly with muted French Horns and English Horns before moving into a big brass section. The melody begins with the 1-5 leap that characterises all House of Men themes, derived from the Grief of Men, a continual reminder of the mortality of Men. The 1-5 leap is also associated with heroes and this builds into a rousing heroic piece reminiscent of the great hero themes from movies. The final motif is the Dragonhelm as it is gifted to Hador after his act of bravery in rescuing the escapees from Angband (SilmFilm storyline).
