1. Lust: Jack gave into his urges despite him knowing that he shouldn't indulge them. 2. Gluttony: Jack did not have the restraint to stop killing even when it was inconvenient or detrimental for him and even admits he kept going and went further and further just to sate his ever-growing appetite. 3. Envy: Jack's gaze at the Elysian fields, yet doing nothing to get himself there speaks for itself. 4. Sloth: Jack became disaffected with building his house and found other things that caught his fancy other than what his original, true duty was. Furthermore, Jack has apathy for others and cares only for himself. 5. Greed: If one looks upon Jack's pursuits in life and his envy of the Elysian fields, his greed is evidently materially based even though his pursuit is an artistic one. His purpose alone is for the material, not for an immaterial betterment, or creation. 6. Wroth: At multiple points we see emotion cloud Jack and he becomes a beast succumbing to his emotion-filled outbursts. 7. Pride: So Above, so below. Jack's actions are of a creator when he is but a mere worm on his belly in the dust. A mortal taking the lives of others for his own amusement is playing God. Jack thinks so highly of his creations that he is sure they're a masterpiece beyond fault. He has acted with hybris and is proud of his horrific "art". His pride is evident from his conversations with Virgil and also ironically when he is so prideful that he does not take Virgil's advice to not to shimmy across the chasm because he thinks he knows better than him.
If you dont watch this alone in middle of the night with half sleepy feeling and in quiet room. You havent experience the feeling what i felt when i watched this masterpiece.
@@aguycalledpete it's soo shoothing, the quiet atmosphere with only some narration from jack and verge made them look like reading a bed time story to you and at the same time the action always kept you awake and when you think deeply about the thing jack and verge is talking about, it felt like you're in a dream. As visualization is much easier if done at night. When the "screaming" sound from hell was introduced it felt soo terrifiying but then the scene when jack staring at the men cutting the grass with their breathe being exhaled in unison made the atmosphere feels relaxing and kinda made you forgot about the scream.
Looks cool but its kind of boring to see an ALMOST still frame during 34 seconds. Would be cooler for a little bit more movement or stuff happening in the backgroun, like thunder and lighting
If the connection between classic literature and a current horror flick ruined it for you, it wasn't made for you because you don't get it. Von trier is a genius and it's not his fault you don't understand the work you were presented with. Read some Dante, go over the base deadly sins again as a refresher, maybe some basic biblical stories and then get back to us. It's made for people who can and DO read.
