You also picked what I assumed were a few "no-brainers", like "Won't Get Fooled again, "Supper's Ready", "Echoes" and "Astronomy", but when you're dealing with grown men fixated on bands with names like Satan, and kiddie crap like Kiss, etc., etc., apparently there's, literally, a serious lack of brains among them.

Takeaways from tonight's episode: First a note: due to working late, I was unable to watch the "Wet fart in church" episode until later in the week last time; hence if you were looking for takeaways, I didn't post them...but I'm back today 1. Ryan, Rob, Steve, Karen, Butch, Craig, Bryce and 52 minutes into the show we get Ralph in the house tonight... 2. "Tingles" 3. Ryan spent Easter at a Satan concert... 4. Butch scored points with his high school English teacher with Rime of The Ancient Mariner... 5. "I'm going to go with Pete and Karen's favorite band...W.A.S.P" 6. "...my favorite band from Yonkers..." 7. "You don't speak Czechoslovakian?" 8. A guitarist named Necrocock. (A quick Google check reveals his name is apparently Tom or Tomas Necrocock) 9. "I know a lot of douchey people like The Sword." 10. Karen: "What happened to Keeler?" Rob: "He melted into the posters" 11. Rob: What's wrong with me?" Karen: "Lot's. More than we can get into on this show" 12. "Maybe it was the last song on the 8-Track" 13. "Enough said, Bitches" 14. "I thought it was 9pm" 15. A song called "Soft Mouth Vagina" 16. "And you said I'd have no competition for Necrocock" 17. "Sounds like if Motorhead was really, really into Satan. That's all I'm gonna say" 18. Butch to Steve: " Are you sure that's the last song" 19. "There's a god in my soup" 20. Shit busters and shit demons.... 21. Steve: "So the albums all about poop" Ralph: "Pretty much" 22. We have an appearance from Ryan's dog at 1 hour 14 minutes and 42 seconds of the show...

For those who haven't seen the videos, and for those who missed the supremely awesome Hell's Heroes Fest in Houston, Tom Warrior played a Hellhammer set one night and a Celtic Frost set to close out the festival. What was so unique about it was that the band played the songs near the original keys and in the correct tempos, something they've been much more experimental with in recent years. I highly recommend everyone find the videos and check them out.

Staying away for the obvious Hallowed be thy name, Levee Breaks, Into the Void, Tush, Echoes, You Can't always get and Whole Lotta Rosie etc. to mention some others - Don't wake the Lion - Magnum (Wings of Heaven). As Steven Reid would state, this takes you on "a journey" and then some. Perhaps one of the greatest anti-war epics ever written, and it remains quintessentially Magnum. Shooting Stars - Rival Sons (Feral Roots). Simply put, the best closer on a hard rock album I've heard in decades. Incredible end to a great album. Hell On Earth - Iron Maiden (Senjutsu). Can't wait to hear this live as it could well become their new Fear of the Dark. Skyfall - Helloween. The band throw everything at this track, making you smile ear to ear. Billy's got a gun - Def Leppard (Pyromania). Ends the album on a bleak and slightly sombre note, providing the album with some gravitas. Sailing Ships - Whitesnake (Slip of the tongue). This is a reminder that Mr. Coverdale is a formidable songwriter and can deliver beyond wine, women, and "simple" song. High Hopes - Beautifully crafted, it's simply lush and gorgeous. The grass was greener... Princess of the Dawn - Accept (Restless & Wild). On any other Accept album, this could open rather than close. The Garden - Rush (Clockwork Angels). The most fitting way to close not just an album but a huge musical chapter. "The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect, so hard to earn so easily burned. In the fullness of time a garden to nurture and protect". The garden is a poignant metaphor for life. It's equally hopeful and heart-breaking at the same time. It makes me weep with gratitude for the music these three gentlemen have gifted us and also mourn for the loss for music that potentially was yet to come. Like everyone, I wish we could see them live one more time. The professor. Sorely missed and fondly remembered, now tending your own garden. Allahumma man 'ahyaytahu minnaa fa'ahyihi 'alal-'Islaami, wa man tawaffaytahu minnaa fatawaffahu 'alal-'eemaani, Allahumma laa tahrimnaa 'ajrahu wa laa tudhillanaa ba'dahu. Going Home- Rolling Stones From the American edition of Aftermath. The UK had more songs but I think the US has the better cover. 3. Someday Never Comes- CCR The closing track from the Chronicle compilation. Originally from Mardi Gras, everybody's least favorite CCR album (even that had a gem on it) 4. Starship Trooper- Yes From Yessongs. After over 2 hours of Yes, they kicked it off with my favorite 5. Medley: Voodoo Chile/Star Spangled Banner/ Purple Haze/ Villanova Junction- Jimi Hendrix Woodstock soundtrack. Jimi Hendrix agreed to play on the condition we could close the festival. And what a conclusion! Other worthy mentions: The Show Must Go On- Queen Much like Led Zeppelin 's In Through The Out Door, a farewell song before a farewell was official The Soft Parade- Doors They saved the best for last here! I'm A Boy- The Who (Meaty Beaty Big And Bouncy) From the perfect compilation!

I'm a Dio freak bro! Like that's all I listened to for a year, there was a time during that where I would put on the mob and skip to over and over and just listen to that from the album that's how good of a closer it is!

I’m shocked nobody mentioned one closer from any one of Dokken’s first 3 albums. Here’s some low hanging fruit, Eyes of a Stranger. Rush’s Between the Wheels is a strong closer as is Vital Signs.

Sonic Mycelium from Voivod’s The Wake is a brilliant close to that album. It takes musical ideas from the previous songs and summarizes the whole album in one song. Genius move. Evil Spells on Morbid Angel’s Altars of Madness is another top choice as is God of Emptiness from Covenant. Forever on Nevernore’s Dreaming Neon Black is genius. A bleak end to a bleak album. Collapse of Light on Porcupine Tree’s In Absentia also hits the spot for me. Lastly, When The Wild Wind Blows on Iron Maiden’s Final Frontier is great as was Journeyman on Dance of Death…

That Gospel is a favorite of mine. I know they had to record the whole thing soup to nuts twice because of some fuckery, and the original version is totally lost unlike Obsessed by Cruelty, but maybe one day a lost copy will turn up and i can hear that too!

By the way I bought the Gospel album when it came out in ‘02 but when I received it back then I said “who the fuck is Invictus?” must be new!! i look into it and he’s only got two other releases I could see, both Aussie, so I assumed he was originally from there too. Didn’t know either of those in ‘02 either. “Who the fuck is Vomitor and who the fuck is Slaughter Lord???” but I figured the Gospel album was so good the others were worth a listen and there you go 😂

I can totally relate to that English teacher story. I had a few great teachers like that. Also later in life, I relished telling some friends who were Tolkien fans about Blind Guardian's 'Nightfall In Middle Earth' and how it was inspired by The Silmarillion. I let them hear it and they were extremely impressed. One good friend who is sadly no longer with us even came to see Blind Guardian with me in 2010 after I turned him on to their stuff.
