The biggest nerf to battle bond is how we don't get that cool looking Ash Greninja anymore

I feel like if they had named it Battle Bond Greninja instead of Ash-Greninja, we would still have that form. It only vaguely looks like Ash, and only in its head fins.

Scarlet and Violet not taking away something cool challenge. Impossible difficulty.

Im just supprised that greninja managed to get back to ou in August. We thought that meowscarada will just replace it but nope, its with greninja in ou.

I honestly felt this nerf was so unnecessary given the existence of Palafin, Cap Pikachu (which invalidates the argument of it being removed because Ash was no longer in the anime) and Roaring Moon's dex entry (which invalidates the argument that Pokemon wants to get rid of anything that even closely resembles Mega Evolution, and some people compare Greninja to a Mega). That said, ignoring Palafin's existence for just a second, it was kinda strong with it's stat changes being something you keep throughout the battle and that can't be hazed. And on top of that, changing it like this could potentially mean we get more mons with Battle Bond, like the other 2 Kalos starters, which I'm all for. So I would've had it where Greninja DOES change it's form, but it doesn't get permanent stat changes, and the ability itself works like post-nerf Battle Bond, just with the aesthetic change. Because the aesthetic change does define the ability IMO. And, of course, if more mons get this new Battle Bond, they would need an aesthetic change to go with it, which the Kalos starters would benefit from. Not saying they're bad by any means, but there's a video by Truegreen7 where he showed how small and subtle changes (I'm talking SMOL changes, like changing the way the fur curves in certain places and a slight change of color) can dramatically improve Pokemon designs and used Delphox to showcase it, which would make it more appealing to a wider audience without butchering them or making them a new Pokemon altogether. Hopefully the picture in Nemona's house could be a teaser to such a change when we finally get the DLCs for SV. If it is, then please buff Water Shuriken while you're at it. Make it more competitive with Palafin's jet punch. Edit: Another reason this nerf felt so dumb, is that it happened after it was voted Pokemon of the Year, only to never come back in Gen 8 at all. But still, despite all that, Greninja came back roaring with vengeance and Battle Bond, right back into OU against all the odds and those who did it wrong. Feels so good, personally.

Battle bond already worked as intended before he was sent to UU, for some reason he ended up rising again.

I hope they do a gift give away or a certain special ability patch that let's us get it instead of a gen or home

I think I know why they nerfed Protean: First of all, we have to look back at when they introduced Terastallization, I always thought that Protean (Not nerfed) + Terastallization made it very broken. Terastallization in my opinion sounds like protean but on steroids. So, if they didn't nerf protean it would be like this: A Non-Nerf Greninja with protean can be broken and when it is terastal it could probably make it so that if greninja with a non-nerfed protean + terastal can change its terastal with a different choosing move. However, For Competivite Greninja (Battle Bond) You can try using a physical set greninja that has sword dance. I tried it a few times but, sometimes I think it's based on how you play battle bond greninja with sword dance.

I am one of those who felt that this change to battle bond might not be as bad as people may have thought. +1 to a stat means 50% boost and old battle bond gave flat +50 stats and +10 glat to Spd. Greninja has always been a glass cannon when built as a dps instead of support so might as well just click buttons mindlessly and take as many opponents down before you do so yourself. My justification for battle bond being still good if not better in certain cases is the fact that Greninja's SpA and Spd is higher than 100 so the +1 stage would benefit it more than flat +50. Sure, it is not that good on physical side of things anymore but it was mostly a special attacker in the past and it got buffed. Say what you want, Greninja still cool, in and out of competitve scene to this day.

everyone : Smogon loves stall ( i don't even Remember why this meme happened) smogon : buffs Greninja and makes him a monster only thing about Greninja now is its 4ms Hpump and ice beam are obbligatory and Dark pulse helps, in the last lost i always find struggling between grass knot, Taunt and water shuriken tho

Gen 9 made original ash-Greninja look balanced as having a free choice scarf+spec boost seems more challenging than handling a pretty strong frog P.S. this is only a joke but it is very strong with that +1 special and speed

When they announced Greninja Battle Bond had gotten reworked for Gen 9, I told everybody that it was going to make him a crazy good revenge kill sweeper, and NOBODY believed me

They should return ash greninja instead of the current battle bond and also fix protien it’s not cinderace and rework libero to not let cinderace change type but only get stab on all attacks
