This song was supposed to be in the movie, instead of "God Help the Outcasts", sang by Esmeralda. I can't choose which song is the best... They're both absolutely awesome 💕
I don't own this video, I have just put lyrics on it, so that you can realize how powerful the meaning of the song is.

I love "Someday" as a song, and the lyrics in this version. We would've definitely missed out had it not made the soundtrack (with All-4-One singing it, too). But "God Help the Outcasts" encompassed Esmeralda's complex relationship with The Church as she's literally singing in one, and talking to God himself. Trying to figure out the hypocrisy of Church leaders (excluding the Archbishop's character), and the parishioners' judgemental actions (or inaction) towards others *not* like them, vs the life and teachings of Christ they claim to follow is all in the subtext of the song. Something still relevant to this day, no matter the denomination. Pointing out that Christ was also an outcast has a deeper emotional impact vital to the story when all three main protagonists are outcasts. Phoebus becomes one eventually -- for having a forbidden love, and refusing to follow orders to commit genocide. The lyrics of "God Help the Outcasts" make Esmeralda a much more interesting character with much more depth than if she had sung "Someday" in that particular moment.

I wish they could have included this song in the movie somewhere! It is so beautiful! Esmeralda may not be an official Disney Princess, but she is in my book! She has the qualities and is a great role model to people everywhere!

It ends up in the musical after she gets arrested. She's granted one last night with Phoebus to think about Frollo's conditions, and they duet this song because they've both resigned themselves to d_e with their head held high.

I like this song it reminds me of when I was growing up that people thought I was not going to thrive academically not go to college not be aloud to live on my own at all and have little or no control of my life. I am grateful that I proved a lot of things wrong, and it is unfortunate that my road to becoming independent was filled with doubt, being so underestimated and verbal abuse. Also, I am being controlled by doing things that i can or not being allowed to do. I am now living on my own. I have an actual job. I am on the autism spectrum

I felt like this song would've served better in a different part of the movie. God Help the outcasts makes sense given the gravity of Esmerelda's situation being hunted by Frollo, and looking for answers within the church. That song solidifies her awareness for the circumstances beyond her own, more specifically her people. It's much better development for a character that seeks to put others' safety above her own.
@aaronmann8564
@aaronmann8564 Год назад
Agreed. Perhaps an extra scene between the Court of Miracles and the Execution? Esmerelda locked within the Palace of Justice looking out and able to see Notre Dame she begins to offer up this last prayer. Cutting between instances of her people being locked up, Phoebus being rough handled by his former subordinates, Quasimodo being chained up in the bell tower with the Arch- Deacon looking on helpless as the soldiers bind the hunchback and prepare the stake.

So beautiful, and I love this song so much (so glad that Someday made the musical and that the All 4 One version made the soundtrack). However - I think God Help the Outcasts fit the moment better and the verses showing about Christ being an outcast and the more self absorbed prayers of the followers were very important to the story - “I ask for wealth, I ask for fame, I ask for glory to shine on my name…” (words of people of means) Vs Esmeralda - “I ask for nothing, I can get by, for there are so many less lucky than I”

Where that version of the song starts as a solo song, then builds to a duet with Phoebus, ultimately climaxing to an epic chorus in the later half of the song. The American version is smaller and intimate which works specifically in that version of the musical. Both songs are great in my opinion as they serve their purpose within their respective versions

considering the fact that this song was placed in a movie around the XV century I think we can say that until now nothing's really changed much, nowadays more than 500 years later we still have problems with greed and need. Same. Personally I prefer God Help the Outcasts, but I’m really disappointed this song wasn’t in the movie. Like come on, they put A Guy Like You in the movie instead?? And yes! If I Never Knew You is actually my favorite Disney love song aside I See the Light. It’s really disappointing that one wasn’t in Pocahontas, considering how many times it’s used as an instrumental in the movie. I truly believe if the song stayed, more people wouldn’t be so harsh on Pocahontas as a historical fiction movie nowadays (especially when Anastasia and Balto don’t get nearly as much hate or criticism)
@kaylovesdisney4582
@kaylovesdisney4582 6 месяцев назад
@kristinahuchison2511 I echo your thoughts on Pocahontas. I am all for historical accuracy when appropriate (100%)....but the real Pocahontas's life was quite difficult, and if the sources are correct, some of what happened to her was terrible... not suitable for a Disney movie. I don't think anyone who worked on it set out to offend anyone they just took inspiration from someone who lived and added some Disney magic. It's a beautiful movie if you take it for what it js. Likewise, the real Pocahontas is a beautiful person to research. She's one of my favourite historical figures and Disney Princess 🍂🍁

This one is better. I really don't understand the decision, because "Someday," more than any of the other songs, captures the feeling you get when reading "Notre Dame de Paris." Yes, that's Hugo's original title, and it's not really a story about a hunchback, it's a story about a cathedral that stands through centuries of dark history, watching the hopes of each generation rise but ultimately be extinguished by oppression and dysfunction. Hugo wrote it in 1831, after the Renaissance and in the midst of the Enlightenment, which had in some measure transformed Western culture in the manner Esmerelda longs for in these lyrics.
@fandemusique4693

This is actually from the book, and is shown brilliantly in the stage show! - Ciara Reneé as Esmeralda. Absolutely perfect casting! - "Top of the World" duet between Quasimodo and Esmeralda! - Phoebus's PTSD backstory, just come from the trenches. Gives him more depth. - "Esmeralda" song. Goosebump worthy piece with choir and whole cast!! - "MADE OF STONE", a powerhouse solo from Quasimodo!! One of the best songs in the show!!
