What a crazy film!!!! Which movie is the best? We can't wait to watch Catching Fire next weekend! Thanks for being here :)

The three-finger salute is not explained in the movies, but in the books it is a sign of respect used at funerals. It means respect and goodbye. But after Katniss uses it in the games after Rue's death it changes it's meaning a bit, as you will see later. Effie Trinket is the Capitol companion for the tributes from District 12. In the books it is mentioned that it's an unprestigious position, because no-one from that district has won since Haymitch won 24 years ago. Haymitch is a drunk, partly because of his own ordeal in the games, and partly because he has been forced to mentor the tributes from district 12 since he won... And none of them has ever survived...which explains his rude behavior when we first meet him. He does NOT want to get to know and care for these kids, if they are just going to get killed. But when he sees their spunk and talent, his demeanor changes. He starts to hope. ❤

In the book, their father died in a mining accident, and their mother went catatonic. Katniss had to step up as a parent for Primrose. Each year, your name is put in more times the older you are. So 12 year olds once, 13 three times, 14 five times, 15 seven times, 16 nine times, and 17 eleven times. Plus, you get a bag of rations for each extra time you put your name in. Gale had 42 slips all together, and Katniss had 37

I've said this in the past, but it's always true: Donald Sutherland makes a really good villain as President Snow. It's kind of the same Paradox with Imelda Staunton/Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter: a delightful actor playing such a vile, despicable character.

Please note that Gale merely has a crush on her and she isn’t even aware at this point. They have never dated, so those looks of pain whenever Katniss and Peeta are having a moment is just him being possessive over someone who doesn’t belong to him. As the movies progress, you’ll eventually understand why I’m so bitter regarding Gale 😂

Fun fact the mutts in the end were made using the body parts of the dead tributes in the book, katniss was able to recognize rue’s eyes

Each of the 12 Districts has a “escort” from the Capital. That escort travels to the District, draws the two names in the Reaping, takes the two Tributes to the Capital & oversees them through the preparation until the Hunger Games begin. Effie Trinket is the escort for District 12.

2:50 so in the book the kids could make their chances of getting chosen higher by multiplying the number of sheets with their name in the draw ball they were often froced to do so because for doing it they received some extra food or some other stuff they needed. Apparently Katniss's chances were very high cause she was always trying to provide everything to her family. But her sister only had one sheet and got chosen.

This is the first movie my husband took me to see after we got married in 2012. After we watched the first movie, we bought the books and read them together. We already knew what was going to happen in the other movies before they came out. We still watched the other movies. In hindsight we probably should have waited until we watched all the movies before we read the books. We still liked both the movies and the books. Great reaction. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for this reaction! This was one of the first movies my late girlfriend and I saw on our first dates. In college we had to do a light show project with music; she chose the end credit music for her light show and it was amazing. To answer your question about Effie Trinket, she’s an escort for District 12; her job is to reap the names of the chosen tributes and not only accompany them to the Capitol but to mentor them on the social guidelines of the Capitol as well. OH FINALLY! I'm excited for you guys to watch these! they're brutally real and very very beautiful story.. both movies and books are very good. well made well written👌👌❤💯 I haven't seen anyone writing about it so I wanted to tell you guys about Haymitch.. he was like that at the beginning because can you imagine he was a winner once.. the horrors he had to face are so great and his particular year was such a brutal year of games.. we'll explain it to you next movie I think it's in the next book yeah.. PLUS every year after his win he becomes a mentor to two different kids then he ends up seeing them die at the end.. you see there was no mentor for district 12 but him that means no one since his year won the games from district 12💔💔 he sees innocent kids die EVERY YEAR after mentoring them.. and because of his own demons from his past he turned to severely drinking his sorrows away💔 he sobered up because he finally saw some potential in her to really win.. that he could actually help saving a kid's life finally 💔 The games were never fair to ANYONE but the entertained audience. The visuals of the rich people is so obnoxious but I think that serves a purpose to highlight how ostentatious they are, drawing a line between those two worlds. While some don't even have food to eat, others have purple wigs and golden teeth or whatever. And it's like. SEE, if you work hard enough and deserve it hard enough, you too can be part of our wonderful society and change your life! ...But that's not true. There's no way out. It never truly ends unless you change the system.

11:53 anyone who lives in the capital is rich compared to the districts so any citizen of the capital can become a sponsor. Districts as a whole can send gifts to theirs tributes in the arena as well. It’s the mentor’s responsibility to gather sponsored funds from the citizens and give the tributes gifts to help them survive.

Not so fun fact: the dogs that come out as the “finale” were actually mutated using the fallen tributes. Including Rue, i believe. Extremely horrifying in the book.

Peeta has no life and nothing to live for. So all of this is exciting and an experience. If he dies so what? He got to live for a minute. Katniss had her family to fight for so she could only see the negative and the fight. Thats why peeta can love laugh and make jokes. And katniss isnt there yet.

One of the best movies of all time. No other movie that I can think of off the top of my head can keep your adrenaline pumping non-stop during your entire first watch. The musical numbers, filmography, and acting from young Jennifer Lawrence was all perfection. However, the person who really deserves the credit for such a masterpiece is Gary Ross, the director, as well as other members on the team of producers. Many people say that Catching Fire, the second movie of the franchise, is the best. I respectfully disagree because the emotion that the first movie is able to emit as well as draw out of you is incredible. The masterpiece that is The Hunger Games is hidden with a mask to much of the general public that takes on the appearance of movies such as Twilight (no disrespect to Twilight, I love Twilight for other reasons). Love triangles, screaming teenage girls who wanted to be like Katniss, and overexposure all had a hand in that. In my top ten movies of all time is this film, and I can't wait for you to see the next three as well as the sequel that comes out this fall.
