To answer about the elevator scene, Johanna was naked to make Katniss uncomfy. Katniss is a pretty modest and reserved character so Finnick and the other victors took turns making innuendos, kissing her, and undressing in front of her to mess with her.

What these movies did to Katniss' mother's character is a crime. In the books she is a rock star healer. The paralysis from which she suffered after her husband died in the mining accident was over before the first book even started. Her shaking when she was trying to use the syringe on Gale just pisses me off.

This movie is probably my favorite one out of the series. You can definitely tell the difference between directors but I think that the switch was a good one. I think Jennifer played this role perfectly, so I can see why it is one that put her on the map more concretely. I think she perfectly displayed the fear and emotions that Katniss, in the books, had felt. Excited to see if you guys watch the Mockingjay part 1 and 2, I was there for the initial release and loved every second of it. I still have the badge and pin that they gave out from the premier.

7:57 yes. CSA and SA survivor here. Lots of CPTSD/PTSD. It comes and goes in waves and it's definitely gotten better over the years as I've gotten older and got therapy. I used to have sleep paralysis and wake up screaming often. Now I can't remember the last time it happened. But I still freeze in certain situations and have lots of anxiety attacks. So thank you for your kind words. It really means a lot. I was definitely crying in the theatre every time they showed katniss suffering from PTSD. It was like someone looked into my brain and put it on screen. And I'm so glad y'all appreciate Peeta! He's my favourite! And definitely suits Katniss better than Gale.

My dad has ptsd from being in the military. He can’t watch fireworks outside because they sound like gun shoots and bombs to him. So for 4th of July when they do the fireworks, he sits in the car with me (I can’t handle the sound either because I am sensitive to noise). He does say that it gets better the more he talks about his trauma. Also, he rarely gets nightmares anymore.

23:15 lol, he is mean and he wants the victors dead because in the earlier scenes when Gale was getting whipped in the town square it was being broadcasted to nation to induce fear into the citizens, but the footage shows Katniss, Haymitch and Peeta standing up to the peacekeepers, displaying to the nation that the Capitol is not all powerful the way they say they are, each Victor is ideally from the Capitol’s POV is supposed to be an advocate of sorts to promote the idea that the Capitol is merciful for letting them survive the games, and giving them money for winning… so since that plan didn’t go as planned rather than letting the citizens rally and join forces behind the victors, snow wants them all dead to kill and “show” that even that hope was an illusion.

I really, genuinely believe that The Hunger Games series is J.Law's best performances. She leans into Katniss's emotions so heavily, and does her panic and anger so much justice. It's incredible.

Also katniss doesn't love Gale romantically. She does platonically because they help each other survive in 12. He's a place of comfort. He does love katniss romantically though and he's jealous that she's bonded with peeta now over him. Katniss doesn't really try to think about love. Shes all about survival. However there are a couple of times where she feels feelings of romantic love for peeta (she herself doesn't know how to articulate her feelings of love. She refers to it as an all consuming hunger for more after she kisses him). First time is during their kiss in the cave and second is on the beach. At the end of this movie it can be assumed that her and peeta would've continued to build their relationship romantically outside of the games, genuinely.

I have C-PTSD, but my symptoms don't present in the same ways as Katniss. I haven't had nightmares or flashbacks in years. But I have noise sensitivity, hypervigilance, anxiety, and other mood and behavioral changes. Sometimes if I'm under a lot of stress, I'll have a trauma dream or flashback.

I don't think Katniss loves Gale. He's comfort to her, he reminds her of home so maybe she did love him at some point, but he wasn't really right for her They're both fighters and she doesn't need another fighter

The part 1 & 2 trend started with Harry Potter because the last book was too dense for just 1 movie, even though they still left tons out, but that trend is what killed the Divergent series. Splitting the last book into 2 movies isn't a requirement in all cases, and it doesn't automatically mean it makes a movie series good, for most it's just a cash grab at the box office.

My favorite movie from the series? Hmm, that’s a tie between Catching Fire and Mockingjay part 1. (Yes, part one; it’s so psychologically heavy and I love it. Also LOVE the rebellion scenes in various districts.)

This one is definitely one of the best ones. The concept, the action, everything. The last one is a favorite for me as well. Can’t wait for you guys to get to that one

"Cinna," like some other names used in this series, was an ancient Roman name. They are linking to the "bread and circuses" theme of ancient Rome. The most famous Cinna in Rome had a daughter who married Julius Ceaser. Plutarch is another ancient Roman name. This I think is the best movie of the franchise. Much deeper than the others. What happens when you take the survivors with PTSD and put them back in the arena? It will not go as planned. The smartest thing Snow could have done is let Katniss the teenager reject Peeta. Her popularity would have plummeted and she would become irrelevant. Instead he gave her extra importance and created an explosive situation. This is the story I was not able to predict. First and third books (and equivalent movies) were reasonably predictable once the story is set up. For me it was the set up that made the story and watching how they unfolded it down predictable pathways. This story surprised me.

Wait. Where did you get that she wanted to marry Gale? That's a leap. Gale wasn't into Katniss until he saw Peeta was interested in her.

Just found your channel. Great reaction, gave you a new sub. These movies are so fun and engaging the first time around. You were correct that they killed Cinna because of the dress he made. However it was also done in that very violent way at that specific moment in order to destabilize her as much as possible on her way up the tube to the arena. They wanted to increase her disadvantage. Also, Cinna new they’d do that to him (because they’ve done it to other stylists for lesser reasons in the past) but made the dress anyway. I'm just watching your commentary right now even though it's months later and wanted to say that I do have PTSD like they show Katniss has in the movie. Not exactly the same, of course, but similar. Mine mostly manifests as nightmares, but even after waking I would be stuck 'inside' the nightmare where I was awake but could not differentiate between what happened in the nightmare and what was reality. I've since gotten much much better, and with medication designed for PTSD I no longer suffer when I'm awake. I still get nightmares and I could take something to make them disappear entirely, but it would come with side effects. As it is, I am good right now. Mine was caused by growing up feeling unsafe, my dad's side of the family would threaten us a lot and hurt my mom and dad sometimes. Eventually, my dad passed from cancer but his family hunted him down to the last day. A few months after that I had nightmares reliving my father's death, which transformed into any and all family being attacked and killed. I would wake up like Katniss, sobbing, sometimes screaming. I was actually just finally diagnosed with PTSD this year, and far before I got therapy I pieced myself back together. PTSD really bends reality for the mind, and it's like you can't escape what's hurt you. For a few years, I was highly suicidal and just wanted the nightmares to stop. I could never actually sleep, because sleep became something I was afraid of. I had read the Hunger Games books during that period of my life, and I thought it was a critically accurate piece on what PTSD is like for someone Katniss's age. The loss of a father, the constant fear for safety, how it changed her every day into the things of nightmares. Katniss went through hell, but it was a very important story to me. I think the series tries hard to not rest too much on the PTSD since that isn't the focus, but I am thankful that they were able to do it tastefully and accurately(for Hollywood).

My 6-year-old son has PTSD from what he experienced and saw with his bio family. My 8-year-old foster son also has PTSD from the trauma he has experienced. It's rough sometimes.

Yup Mags (the old lady) she won the 11th games when she was 16yo..... the 11th takes place 1 year after the new book & movie adaptation that took place 64 years before the first hunger games movie with Katniss.

Seen this 4x, definitely my favorite of the series. Edit: Finnick is my favorite character alongside Katniss, and now thinking about what you said Bianca, he definitely reminds me of Klaus. He’s got the same sort of charm.

My ranking for THG franchise would be : 1. Catching Fire - Hunger Games all stars + Everlark sailing (Katniss’ only selfish act is wanting to keep Peeta even when he already told her by the beach to let go and stay alive for her family) 2. Mockingjay Part 1 - rebels rising up against the capitol being inspired by Katniss’ speeches and song 3. Mockingjay Part 2 - 76th Hunger Games, Katniss’ continuous sacrifice for freedom and the earned epilogue 4. Hunger Games - Katniss’ selflessness Just recently watched this entire franchise and now I’m catching up on reactions made to them. I can’t believe I slept on these. Prequel movie is coming next month, it’s about the 10th annual Hunger Games and President Snow’s rise to power (I think).

Peeta got done dirty in the movie. A clear example of Peeta’s down grade and Gale’s up grade character wise in the movie occurs in Catching Fire from the whipping to the reaping. In the movie: She greets Gale near the hob and the Peace Keepers start burning it so he attacks a Peacekeeper to stop them resulting in his whipping. Haymitch talks Thread down and Peeta is seen in between Katniss and Haymitch. Mrs. Everdeen and Prim treat Gale. Katniss kisses Gale and promises to stay. Quarter Quell is announced. Katniss runs. Haymitch and Katniss make a deal to protect Peeta in the Quell. Katniss kisses Gale in the meadow before heading to the Quarter Quell reaping. In the book. Katniss meets Gale at the cabin to convince him to run with he agrees then he tells Katniss he loves her and she deflects it. She makes it clear running includes Peeta and Haymitch. Gale gets pissed off the plan includes Peeta then gets upset insinuating she wouldn’t leave without Peeta but would leave without him. He then calls her out for not staying and fighting with no understanding of what position she in and low key calls her something made by the capital. Katniss runs into on the way back from the cabin she meets up with Peeta who agrees to go with her but does not believe she will leave. Peeta recognizes the sound of leather on skin realizes it is Gale being whipped tells Katniss to go home and he would meet her there. Peeta then is part of Haymitch defusing the situation. It is explained Gale went to Cray’s house to sell a turkey but finds Thread who whips Gale for illegally poaching on capital land. Katniss declares she choose Gale and that he is hers and she is his she then kisses Gale and says she is going to stay to fight. When Mrs. Everdeen comments on how people react when someone they love is in pain and Katniss starts spiraling about what that means and hoping Gsle doesn’t remember the kiss. When Peeta tells her he’ll stay with Gale and to go to bed Katniss has to remind herself she can’t ask Peeta to stay with her because she choose Gale and Peeta is the Capital’s choice. When she Katniss wakes up she worries about Peeta having to walk three houses down in the snow so she calls to check on him. Katniss meets Bonnie and Twill at the cabin and she gets injured returning because fence’s electricity got turned on. Peeta and Haymutch help convince Peacekeepers that Katniss wasn’t in the wood by improvising to which she comments nothing throws Peeta and Haymitch which is why they have survived so long. Once Mrs Everdeen treats Katniss injuries with sleep syrup her inhibitions are lowered so Katniss asks Peeta to stay with her when he carries her up stairs to bed. Peeta and Katniss spend time updating her family plant book while she is recovering and Katniss becomes fascinated with watching Peeta work to the point there is a paragraph about his eyelashes. Quarter Quell is announced Katniss runs off to wallow till she realizes either Haymitch or Peeta will be in the Arena with her so she goes to Haymitch to strike a deal to save Peeta because he is the better person out of the three of them and it’s Peeta’s turn to be saved. Next morning Peeta throws out all the liquor threatening Katniss and Haymitch into getting their acts together and Peeta makes them train like careers. Katniss resents Peeta for not showing her any type of affection during training opting instead to make them train harder and eat more. Gale shows up on Sundays to help with the career training Peeta has them doing at which point Gale comments that everything would be easier if Peeta was easier to hate to which Katniss agrees. When Gale asks Katniss where they would be if Peeta hadn’t survived the arena she reply’s hunting on Sunday like always. Then the reaping happens.

There is no love triangle in the book…it was always going to be Peeta. A lot of his stuff from the book was cut of the movie. At one Katniss says “I'm rattled by the turn in the conversation. The implications that I could so readily dispose of Peeta, that I'm in love with Gale that the whole thing has been an act.” A sampling of Katniss thoughts on Peeta in the Hunger Games. **£To this day, I can never shake the connection between this boy, Peeta Mellark, and the bread that gave me hope, and the dandelion that reminded me that I was not doomed. ***This is the first kiss where I actually feel stirring inside my chest. Warm and curious. This is the first kiss that makes me want another. ***And while I was talking, the idea of actually losing Peeta hit me again and I realized how much I don't want him to die. And it's not about the sponsors. And it's not about what will happen when we get home. And it's not just that I don't want to be alone. It's him. I've seen flashes of this before: in the arena, or when he speaks to a crowd, or that time he shoved the Peacekeepers' guns away from me in District 11. I don't know quite what to make of it. I also become a little fixated on his eyelashes, which ordinarily you don't notice much because they're so blond. But up close, in the sunlight slanting in from the window, they're a light golden color and so long I don't see how they keep from getting all tangled up when he blinks.

Wish in training they had kept it that she was shooting birds rather than siloet. It's a conflict with the PTSD.

I'm hopping through some old reactions evidently, so I don't know if someone dropped this, but the reason Mags does't speak is because (from Katniss' book POV thoughts) she had a stroke at some point in her older years, and chooses not to talk because she can't enunciate. Mags also has some facial paralysis issues, and when she does speak in the books (once? or twice? maybe) her speech is noted by Katniss to be slurred. The girl Mags volunteered for, Annie, has a different speech issue relating to mental health issues and trauma from her Games, it's almost like selective or maybe reactive mutism, at least I personally think.

They're all phenomenal movies but my favorite is probably the last one and the 3rd is a very close 2nd. I feel like most people's favorite is Catching fire but prefer the the last two just a little bit more! Katniss and Johannah are my favorite characters!

I have ptsd/cptsd. It's not so bad. I haven't slept through the night in 20 years, I developed major OCD about door and window locks, and I have uncontrollable bursts of anger that happens randomly every few hours. Easy-Peasey, right?😂😂

Funny how you kept making "Aquaman" jokes. The beefy, jock guy from District 1 that killed "Nuts" before Katniss shot him in the chest with an arrow...he played Aquaman on the "Smallville" TV show in a few episodes. Not being a fan of the Fox X-Men movies, I'll definitely say Hunger Games is Jennifer Lawrence's best series. But you should also check out "Silver Linings Playbook" and "Red Sparrow" for a couple other great Jennifer Lawrence roles. Loved them both.
