The same reason he holds no grudge against anyone. He’s a very kind and considerate person. He was more concerned for his sons well-being rather than express his grief. He sent his son away shortly after so he would be away from harm. He even was considerate towards his ex-wife who showed rather controlling tendencies and inconsideration for his own feelings.

Not far from real life. Many men got lynched from false accusations. And what is ironic that many people who watch this movie and angry at townspeople whoud join lynchmob if same happened in their town.

All those scenes with the dog made it obvious that the poor thing was gonna get hurt. Anyway, I'd cripple or kill the person who killed my pet. To me, it's as if killing a family member.

I don't like dogs. Personally, I never have. But even I was enraged by this scene. What happened to Fanny was COMPLETELY unjustifiable, and I honestly hope whoever killed her was caught and punished accordingly.

Mike Larson I think the person you can't see coz of the sun that maybe missed on purpose that might have shot at him right at the end did the dog .it's ambiguous so who knows but great ending .

I _think_ the director confirmed that the person who shot at Lucas at the end was Klara's mother, so perhaps she was also the one who killed Fanny?

I thought this scene was a little much, personally. I tried to empathize with the townspeople (ignorant as they are), but that was just evil. It painted them as antagonists when there never really should have been one. That said, I still really like this movie.

It's believed by many viewers and critics that Klara's older brother shot the dog, and also fires the shot at the end of the movie. This hasn't been confirmed or denied by the director AFAIK, but it makes sense to me. When he plays with his little sister in one scene we see him cry, obviously very sad and probably furious about what he thinks has happened to her. The silhouette you see in the end seems to suggest a young slim person, which would narrow the cast down to either Lukas' son or Klara's brother. The adult population of the town might not stoop so low as to kill a dog, but it's no stretch for me to suspect a pissed off adolescent brother with a grudge

It's easy because in the movie we know he is innocent. In real life, enoguh that media says something, we rarely second guess it and just jump on band wagon of accusations, rarely asking for proofs.

An ambiguous one or symbolic that this will never go away you aren't meant to see the shooter that's the point I thought it was a great ending tho I don't know how he could forgive them . just showed how great he truly was .I would be suing the shit out of the. Nursery teacher if at all it was a possibility .
