Ok but for the most part a child lying about sexual assault especially a 5 year old is incredibly rare. They'd have to see or experience it to even know what it is which is why the adults reacted that way. appropriately

while watching this atm, i cant help but realize the methods the adults use to "get an answer" out of klara. its almost spoon feeding her words. which is completely stupid cause its like forcing her to say the words you want her to say. "he did this and this to you right? he showed you this right?" and it was obvious enough when her own parents and the head teacher saw flaws on klaras statement. a point where humans shove every mistake under the rug cause we fucked up or couldve fucked up

In Denmark there are clear rules on how to handle a situation of possibly child abuse. In this case (movie) the rules weren’t followed.

I think that's another point of the film. Not just the lie itself, but how the people just wanted to see what they wanted, and how extremely violent they all acted without hesitation. From killing his dog to almost killing him; the people were just looking for a martyr to vent their anger on, they cared little about the truth, just the excuse.

To be fair it's one thing for a child to lie to not get in trouble for eating candy, but making up sexual assault is a whole different thing
@SuperMiIk
@SuperMiIk 11 месяцев назад
Not even remotely the same thing. A child having cake is tangible, normal, nothing that would cause alarm. A child (such a young one too) even *knowing* what sexual abuse is isn't normal and should be treated with the utmost severity. Not that difficult but I hope that helps

Some of the adults in the film especially the woman who runs the nusery are so stupid as they should know that kids can lie in certain circumstances.
@furiousmat
@furiousmat 9 лет назад
JReed1985 yeah but as stupid as it looks when watching it from the outside, the reactions from the parents are very plausible. Just the scene with the child psychologist at the kindergarden office showed pretty well what can happen. The woman was already convinced that something had happened because she could not believe that the girl could've said anything about a dick otherwise. Then the psychologist comes in and confirms her doubts by asking yes/no questions, which is pretty well known to be a must-not in those situations. The kid is being pressured, she's uncomfortable, asking yes/no question is going to do only one thing : get the child to answer whatever she feels is pleasing those intimidating adults around her. If no doesn't work, she'll try yes. But nevertheless, once the rumor is out, there's no stopping it. Which the movie conveys pretty well.
@JReed1985
@JReed1985 9 лет назад
She cetianly was eager to get outside and play with the other kids which is partly why she contreived the responses. She had no idea what problems she was causing and did express regret after everything that Lucas had been through. The adults in the community were obviously going to believe what she said rather that think of another side to the story.

Exactly. Why would SO and SO lie? People make this mistake so often. It's not just about their kids. It's their friends, etc. People tend to believe others easily when it suits their needs, or when it reaffirms the things they like. I tried to be different - to remain true and critical even if it's detrimental to myself. I learned it, developed it as a skill actually. But in this world, that's a very hard position to take. People hate it so much.

Why did Lucas not even once mention the fact that Clara kissed him on the mouth and gave him that heart as a present? If he did, everything would make sense. In that case it would just be a common reaction of an aggrieved and rejected child that had a crush on one of her caretakers.

@anoni9805
@anoni9805 3 года назад
Absolutely. The best thing he could have done would be to immediately report it to superiors and ask them to take a statement on what happened for absolute clarity. The school teachers also acted against proper practice by asking Klara leading questions, in real life safeguarding protocols and teacher training helps to specify how reports can be properly dealt with. The film is still a masterpiece in that it highlights how easily doubt can eat away at our humanity and ability to reason in such situations though

Because they never even told him she said that. He had no idea she said something like that. He didn't know exactly what Klara had told them. Basically, they never told him the exact accusations, he mentions that a couple of times -in this scene for example, when he answers Theo's wife (subtitles don't appear at that spot). Generally, at the kindergarten initial confrontation, and at this scene, they only vaguely implied what Klara has accused him of: sexual assault. That's it, no exact wording, no other details, no nothing. So, he had no idea, until he went to court, where we presume they told him all that, and then he was finally able to fully counter the accusations. That's why they let him go. It's really subtle and interesting, the movie portraits it magnificently.

Theo told them Lucas was innocent. The point is that after you're accused of something like this, even if there are proofs you're innocent, it's never really over. You can't just let something like this behind you, it will always follow you. Someone is still thinking he's guilty cause it's too hard to believe that a kid as Klara lied all the time about something like this, it's way easier pretending she didn't and blame the adult

Can you blame the dad for believing his daughter? I understand we're all empathetic for Lucas but what would you do in this situation? Maybe you would do something different after watching this movie, definitely find a social worker better than the one in this movie who doesn't put words in the child's mouth, but damn. The point of this film is that human's are all so quick to judge, and mob against something they think is wrong.
