The HUNT for a GIANT Brown Trout (Creek Fishing!!)

Creek fishing for brown trout is an obsession that my brother and I have. We fish countless hours and walk miles and miles of creek to find fish and get opportunities at browns like the one in this video. Seeing a big brown trout come out and grab a streamer in a small creek is one of the biggest rushes I've experienced. I hope you guys enjoy the video!
IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE BLUR I DON'T CARE. There were certain parts of the video that I couldn't include for multiple reasons. Don't hate...

I really appreciate that you guys don’t handle the fish too much. I’ve seen lots of fly fishing videos recently where the guys seem to spend 10 minutes posing with the fish. Thanks for showing good catch & release.

Awesome video. I really like the content you guys produce. All of the background information you give in detail and describing what you are using and how you got to where you caught fish is very insightful and inspiring. Both of your attitudes and willingness and patience are all visible throughout the content. Hope to see some browns like that this season. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.

Beautiful fish. Heck of a creek. It must be nice to be able to go fishing. We are now under order we can't even go hiking or fishing in Oregon due to this nonsense virus. That big brown was awesome!!!! I have a small 12-15 ft stream out here in western Ny right by my house. There is a 20” brown or bigger that holds in this one big pool. I had him follow a spinner once but he spooks easy. If I ever catch him he’s dinner! I catch and release as much as I can but this guy I have got to take for dinner.......

@@hardmanfishing Nobody cares about the pretentious spot that God created and you now believe it's yours. It's so silly the lengths that people go to "hide" a fishing location. Fishing is about sharing knowledge. Not hoarding or being secretive as if you have the cure for cancer. The day Google Earth came out was the last day of a "secret spot!" Yes, I can wrap my head around the fact that people can overcrowd a location. Welcome to Earth 😁😉

I bought my first St Croix 7.5', 3W back in 93 and absolutely love it. I now have 5 different lengths/weights and won't buy anything else. In my opinion, they are just as good as the $500+ "name brands" on the market. I had the misfortune of breaking the tip on my 6' 3W. Mailed it to them and they had a new tip back to me within 3 weeks at no cost except shipping! Nice browns fellas! Loved the "not a bad fish" comment lol. New subscriber here and look forward to seeing more. And good on ya' for trying to protect the location. Here in NC it's getting harder and harder to keep my waters secret. I have one brookie stream that I've been fishing for years and haven't seen signs of anyone else. Have to hike about 5 miles to get there but it's worth it!

What fly line do you prefer on your streamer setups when fishing smaller streams like this?
@hardmanfishing
@hardmanfishing 4 года назад
Well in this video I was throwing sinking line and my brother threw floating line and our success rates were identical. I think in small creeks it is more about your own comfort level. Andrew threw slightly heavier flies to offset his floating line and I threw sinking line with lighter flies. I could go way more in detail with this but it's far more important that you get the fly in front of the fish (whatever that depth may be). However you accomplish this is up to you.

What kind of fly line are you using? Also, im having trouble getting my zonker fly to sink without adding split shot because the bead head isnt enough to sink all of the bouyant material on the fly. Is that a regular practice or am I doing something wrong.
@hardmanfishing
@hardmanfishing 3 года назад
Well most streamers you really have to get wet before they work properly. All of the materials should sink once they truly get wet. So the first advice I'd give is take the streamer to the water and work the material through the water (with your hands if necessary) to get them wet. If you're still having trouble then you can either use weighted line or add split shots. That is kind of up to personal preference. If you're fishing bigger water then I'd definitely use weighted line, if a small creek then maybe just add split shot. Hope this helps!

How to you feel the bite in current like that and when u have soo much slack line?
@hardmanfishing
@hardmanfishing 4 года назад
Most of the time it is a visual strike honestly. But trust me when a big brown smashes a streamer you'll feel it. But you also have to have enough line control to feel it, or see your line bump, and be able to set the hook. It is a very difficult thing to manage if you've never fly fished before.
@jnorth5689
@jnorth5689 4 года назад
Do you guys catch more throwing up stream like that consistently then down or across?
@hardmanfishing
@hardmanfishing 4 года назад
Depends on the situation. We work up stream so our sediment doesn't spook fish. So I'd say most of the time we are casting up stream or diagonally across. Occasionally we will swing a streamer through a hole if we know there are good fish in it but you have to be careful how you position yourself as to not spook any fish (at least in small creeks). Hope this helps! And thanks for watching
@eyeguyeyeguy1
@eyeguyeyeguy1 3 года назад
Great fish. My only question is once you have a big one on and start stripping in your line and eventually get all your slack line off so now all line is on the reel, why not just play it on the reel at that point versus stripping the line back off the reel to get the fish in?
@hardmanfishing
@hardmanfishing 3 года назад
That is EXACTLY what I asked him when I was editing the video (the dude who caught the fish was my brother and I netted it). His response was "My reel's drag is broken and slips from time to time so I don't trust it. I try to fight all of the fish and use my hands/fingers as a drag system." Hope this helps!

I absolutely love them so far. I've had no issues with them. Although I personally fish a lot less than I used to now that I work. Andrew likes his as well.

Floating or sinking line?

I used floating line and my brother used sinking line and we had near identical results... I'd say in these small creeks it is more important to get the fly in front of the fish at whatever depth they are at. How you accomplish this task is up to you! Thanks for watching
