The death of the 70 degree Husaberg FE570 saw much gnashing of teeth, rending of garments and crying into the night. I have foolishly just sold my FE570 so dedicate this video tribute in memory of the FE570 - last of the true big bore dirt bikes. :-( This bike test is going to be something a bit different to what you may be accustomed to. I’ve just spent hours on a machine that in my opinion is one of the great dirt bikes of the modern era, and I want to talk about the ride it delivers, not the angle of the dangle or length of a lug. You see, regardless of its entirely modern engineering, the Husaberg FE570 is all about the on-bike experience, not just the things that make it possible. We’ve covered the latter before and so have 42,000 websites and 12,000 magazines. They might feel a bit over the top if you haven’t tried them before, but once you’re used to them it’s then difficult to appreciate any other system. ‘Bar raisers might be needed for taller riders and handguards aren’t standard. Another note of caution is that besides the simple stuff, this isn’t the easiest bike to work on. The tank is fiddly to remove and the rocker covers reside within very little real estate. Not something you’d be mucking about with much, but time consuming all the same. The Husaberg FE570 is greater than the sum of its parts and as far as I’m concerned, as long as those parts are working I don’t give a rat’s which way they pointed and how fast they spun. You may remember I raved about the Husaberg FE 390 last year. That bike simply blew me away; it’s the best four-stroke I’ve ridden. The thing is, I didn’t really gel with its big brother, the Husaberg FE570. I wondered if it was a case of the bigger the ‘Berg, the less I liked it. I was way off. Husaberg is in an interesting position. Australia is its biggest market, but you rarely hear the name mentioned as a prospective purchase. The usual suspects remain at the top of that enduro list in Yamaha, KTM, Husqvarna and Honda (though less so these days). The Neken ‘bars are wide so KTM and Sherco riders will feel at home, while the switchblocks are identical to those used by KTM. We’d recommend removing the left-side block and freeing up some space for the clutch lever. It houses the horn button and blinkers, which should all be ditched before hitting any serious trails anyway. The Husaberg FE570’s shroud decals are injection-moulded, which is one of the best ideas we’ve seen for a long time. Stickers don’t last long and they cost a fortune to replace. The seat comes off by pulling a plastic ring at the rear, which then reveals the air filter and the EFI’s brain. The air filter is the easiest to work with in the known universe and it sits in a translucent tank. The braking is handled by Brembo and they’re brilliant. But make no mistake, the Husaberg is a better bike to ride than any of the others. Husaberg is making the best four-stroke enduro bikes in the world today. They look different and they feel different, but they’re better. Perhaps it’s due to the fact that Husaberg is the only manufacturer (with the exception of BMW) to make any sort of major design leap in the enduro market for a bunch of years. The FE 570 isn’t overly thin. It feels like a cross between the KTM 450 EXC-F and BMW’s G 450 X. The ‘pegs feel a little high and the ‘bars a little low. The seat is comfortable and you can get well forward before your best mates start getting cosy with the fuel cap.

Had a 2011 570. Clocked up 20,000k's never broke down once. Never had to adjust the valves once. Then made the mistake of convincing myself I needed to try another bike :( A couple of bikes later I've bought another 570. I'll keep this one for ever nothing comes close!!

The 'berg really reminds me of the XR650R. Probably one of the best dirt bikes ever made, but maybe just not for its time. It seems some of these big bikes just never really caught on. Rest easy sweet prince.

I bought one in 2010 to replace a stolen XR650R, still have it and it's still going strong at 460hrs with only routine maintenance. A fuel pump replacement at 6 months old is the only issue I've had with it. The big Berg was a revelation after the Honda. Great bike!👍

Great video. Thanks guys for the Berg tribute. I will never sell my beloved 570. By far the best and most capable bike I've ever owned. Heavy? No, not when I go from the big XR's. I am trying to buy up what I can now for spares.

Righteous tribute to the 'Berg FE570 mate! Your 2 channels are great. Very informative and entertaining. Music is perfect for the visuals too. Great mix. You make a very good point about the bike being great for the 'tall' rider. I have come full circle in my bikes during my Military Op tours of duty in the MEAO-Middle East: Yamaha WR450F to KTM525EXC to Yamaha R1 to Ducati Panigali to Harley Chopper Bobber Custom sled to 'Berg FE570. Has been an EPIC JOURNEY. Lots of awesome bikes. Lots of poorly educated QLD police. Any suggestions for the twitchy/floppy tail section of the 570?

So I'm considering moving from my tenere to a FE570 to loose some weight as I'm enjoying the harder trails and the soft sand is just hard work with the (just shy of 200kg) tenere. To the guys who still have or had a FE570, how is it sorting parts for it in Australia? What happens when it needs a rebuild? Will it just become a boat anchor if I can't find an engine part? I'm looking at a 2010 with 7000k's on it.

I've bought my fe 570 a year ago, eleven years after it was built. I now have a sumo and a dirt setup for it. I ride it fast and I ride it slow. It is the bike I think of when I wake up and it's the bike I think of when I fall asleep. To anyone ever wondering if they should maybe get a used 70 deg. Berg: take the leap, you won't be disappointed.

It's a crime against humanity that they stopped making these... and didn't at least sell the design to another brand like SWM or AJP to keep making these magnificent beasts.

Hey Mate, I'm coming from 5 years on a 701 Supermoto and 2 years on a 701 Enduro - I'm 6'7 and 250lbs, didn't want to spend crazy money changing the suspension on the 701 to suit my needs (300mm kit + redamping/springs etc). Found a 2011 FE 570 (street legal!) near me, although the speedo is broken, it's been modified and suspension upgraded for a dude my size. About $5000USD. Am I in for a lot of headaches after the 701? Loved the low maintenance and cost of ownership - I put 50,000km on my first 701 and didn't have any major issues.
@IwanNieuwland
@IwanNieuwland 2 года назад
@@zipdoa well it is gonna be more maintenence than a 701, since it's a proper race bike. But as far as big bore dirt bikes go they can live for 30k easy without opening them up. Also they aren't gonna eat highway miles the way a heavier, more stable 701 does. I guess what I'm saying is, realize that what you're getting isn't going to be the same as a 701, which is a street bike. Now that that's out of the way.. Go get it! They're amazing bikes. And if it's not your cup of tea; sell it again. They aren't going down in value, if anything they're going up
@IwanNieuwland
@IwanNieuwland 2 года назад
@@zipdoa also the speedo is a simple magnet/sensor type setup on the front wheel. Can't imagine that's gonna be hard to fix

The Might 570, Does it make the WR & CRF450's Seem Tame!! I have a CRF450x & it Got Enough Punch for me anyway, the Downside of the 4Ts is Definitely the Extra Pork, I might get another Trusty 250 2 Stroke, I'm Not Fit Enough to Manhandle the 450 in the Tight Stuff!! - If I were 10yrs Younger I'd buy the 'Big Berg' but Finally Realise Id be Happy Trading KGs for HP!! Cheers!! 👍🇦🇺

Actually the 570 had a very mellow power delivery... bit less likely to rev but just monster torque from idle and up! Absolutely criminal that they stopped making this fine beast.
@Sum4Seb
@Sum4Seb 10 лет назад
A lot of good memories on that bike! What is next for you? Bike wise, any ideas what you'll be getting. Even though I'm in love with the DR650 I'm thinking about going down to a Yamaha WR250R. Lighter, fuel injected and basically no maintenance. Suspension setup is better than the DR. Very low insurance and fuel consumption. Only part I'm worried about is the power downgrade but with a few mods I believe it could be the ideal bike for how my wife and I ride. Great tribute video and looking forward to your future :)
@crosstrainingadventure
@crosstrainingadventure 10 лет назад
the WR250R seems to be a very popular adventure bike in the states, less so in australia. the lighter weight would be a bonus! i'm looking at a 250 or 300 two stroke - at 13kg less it will make a huge difference with this semi-trials stuff we are getting into.
@Sum4Seb
@Sum4Seb 10 лет назад
The big thing for us is that we have to make sure that they are road legal. Only dual sports come road legal and we can't convert any off road vehicles to road legal any longer :( Thinking the WR250R might be one of the only options so far, but not going to make any hasty decisions :)

I wish I bought a FE570. It was the one bike that got away. Had a DRZ400E, I was super fit & very strong at time, strong enough to throw the fat DRZ around like it was a CRF450. Unfortunately I suffer scoliosis of the spine and I deteriorated. Still contemplate buying one now, but I think it's wishful thinking. I have a KTM1290R but want something for the short squirts around and easy track. I'm only 170cm though, and when I had my DRZ400E, I had the spring preload backed right off to get the height down a tad plus more comfort. If I did the same to the 570, would the seat height be about the same as the DRZ backed off?
@crosstrainingadventure
@crosstrainingadventure 2 года назад
There should be easily available specs for the seat height of both bikes, Kaegis. Trimming the seat might be a better way to get it lower? We've got quite a few tips in our shorter riders vid...
