Ute's husband told her he was a transsexual in the 80's after the birth of their second child. Her story is a must-hear. Her insights into the men who want to be women is very useful In the conversation around trans ideology and its place in society. This is a 2 part interview.

The most detailed account I've heard of Ute's story. I didn't know it went so far back to the 90's. I lived in Toronto then and I knew of only one trans identified man. Times have changed.

I love you two together! I have just discovered Carol and Ute was among the first people I saw tackle this (via Jon Uhler). I have not gone through this but have always been a feminist and was disappointed to see the trend of losing female space and gay spaces to trans ideology. My whole life I heard from society how unreasonable feminism was and how we were making mountains out of molehills. Then came this crap where we had to waste 5-10 minutes at every work meeting giving out our pronouns and adopting new language so everyone could one up each other with their newfound compassion. Worst though, has been the threats to women's safety. Tonight I came here becayse I'm devastated over what happened to Angela Cirini today. A male journalist I follow who owes all his success to Karen Read's terrifying situation, tweeted about supporting the boxer who smacked her breast after being declared winner. He tweeted about how this guy's life was in danger in Algeria and how being intersex means death in his country. He said "Life isn't fair" -- a Karen Read supporter said that -- about what happened to Cirini and that he felt that it was better for her to be hurt or unable to give consent rather than this boxer step down from boxing women (because he's a man). This guy's viewership sky rocketed when Trooper Proctor read aloud his text messages to his friends calling Read a c-word, but Cirini did not have a right to box another woman because apparently Khaleif is intersex (I question that because I have seen how manipulative these huge organizations are, and again, why must women suffer, if they are indeed intersex can't there be a separate category for these thousands of oppressed intersex athletes?). It blows my mind to hear a man from my generation who made his career off institutional misogyny as a "nice guy" actually state that a woman must concede her dreams to make him -- the viewer -- and the apparently intersex boxer more comfortable. I can't. I just cannot anymore with this. Sorry for the rant, @sourpatches2077 and @UteHeggenTranswidowHeals but you two helped me tonight!

Perhaps you have already done videos on this (and I'll look through your channel), but I would really be interested in what it was like to transition in the past ~ in 2010 (thereabouts) verses 2000 verses 1990. I was under the impression that there were more "guard rails". I'm also under the impression that people who wanted to transition needed to pay for surgeries on their own. Thanks for all the work you do on this topic.

33:00 that's not OCD, that's being controlling. Also "everyone being punished physically" doesn't make it any less hurtful, Carol.

It could be OCD, unfortunately the compulsion to make certain things "just right" can come off as controlling. Sometimes it IS controlling, but the intent isn't to exert control over others, rather over whatever has been deemed "not right" and needs to be "fixed." OCD sucks.

Non-rhetorical question: Did Ray Blanchard get pushback from feminists *at the time*, that is, in the 80s and early 90s? I can't really count Janice Raymond here, because she wrote a bit before he did and she didn't really talk about some of the key issues in question (like whether TiMs should be allowed in women's restrooms).

@@SourPatches2077 Blanchard was writing for a more scientific/academic audience, so I wouldn’t be surprised if his work escaped the radar of most ppl (until jm bailey popularized his ideas in “the man who would be queen.”)

Not about Blanchard specifically but here's some critique of "trans" from that time: Feminist critique: Marcia Yudkin: "Transsexualism and women" (1978) Marxist critique: Billings & Urban "The socio-medical construction of transsexualism" (1982) Feminist critique: Sandra McNeill "Transsexualism" (1982) Queer critique: Eve Sedgwick: "How to bring your kids up gay" (1991) Psychoanalytical feminist critique: Moira Gatens: "A critique of the sex/gender distinction" (1993) Sexual-difference feminist critique: Elizabeth Grosz: Volatile Bodies (1994) (just in passing) Ftm critique: Holly (Aaron) Devor: "Transsexualism, dissociation, and child abuse" (1994) Pomo feminist critique: Bernice Hausman: Changing Sex (1995) Mtf critique: Robert (Raewyn) Connell: Masculinities (1996) Lesbian feminist critique: Sheila Jeffreys: "Transgender activism" (1997) Feminist critique: Germaine Greer: "Pantomime dames" (1999) Radical feminist critique: Belinda Sweeney: "Trans-ending women's rights" (2004)

@@LeCerfMalade Holly Devor is no critic of T. She is one of the leading TRAs, was a chair of Transgender Studies, hosted Martine Rothblatt at the conference Moving Trans History Forward (or something similar), and also "transitioned" to Aaron herself some time after her book FTM in Society was first published in 1997.
