They had different aims I guess, the Warsaw Pact wanted to project an image of strength, so had their powerful choral anthem. NATO wanted their image to be just a defensive alliance of democracies, hence the peaceful orchestral anthem.

Absolutely correct. The propaganda side often gets overlooked in things that the target demographic wants to get on their own. Democratic parties rarely do have anthems, there's rarely advertisement for bread etc. This may as well be the same effect.

After years I've realized how it is important to call things by their name! North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), in Russian - Организация Северо-Атлантического Договора (ОСАД) which is one letter "а" away from the Russian word "осада" which means siege, besiegement! However, the Soviet MoFA diplomatically decided not to translate the acronym into the Russian language, so NATO in Russian is "НАТО" although ОСАД is IMO more accurate!

I can't believe a song like this - softly depressing, sad - is the NATO anthem. None of this song made me think of real soldiers, what's worse, I imagine fat men with big jaws -white wigs - smearing food on their mouths.
