Really looking forward to see Javier Gomez race again. I am watching triathlon for 32 years and in my opinion he is the best athlete I ever saw. Hunter Kemper, Tim Don, Simon Whitfield, and Ivan Rana were top dogs and when Javier came and start to dominate them in 2006 it really looked like he changed the sport. Few years later he had great battles with Alistair, then he overcame generation of Murray and Mola. He managed to beat Blu and Iden in 8 out of 10 ITU races in his mid 30s. Both Alistair and Frodeno said that Javier was their biggest rival and athlete that made them better athletes. I am sure they also had great impact on him. European Champions in 2007 in Copenhagen and WTCS Hamburg were epic battles and toe to toe wins against Frodeno. Ali and Javi went toe to toe from 2009 to 2016 at their peak often dominating everyone else for over a minute. Javi also had great battle in 70.3 world against Frodo. Frodo got him 2:1 in WC in their 3 70.3 WC battles. Now when Frodo retired and Ali is injured I am really looking forward to see Javier race few more times. That generation produced iconic performances that I really admire. Let’s go Javi
I am so impressed that the athletes for whom English is a second language are just casually speaking English in all these videos. It’s pretty impressive! Ofc many of them have been in this English-dominant scene for a while so it’s not surprising but I’m still impressed at the multi-lingual athletes!
Other than hanging out at the hotel (which I won't do), are there any meet and greet or special events with the athletes? I'll be there, and would like to meet a few of them and check out their gear.
Go to Aquatic Park for a swim or hang around Chrissy Fields/Marina Green for a run. They have been around there training. Tonight there was a CAF event with Alister, Jan, and Ashleigh but it has passed. Come cheer on Saturday and see if you can meet people then
@@angelas8787 I ran on the bike course this morning, but only saw a couple of them riding. Tomorrow, I'll be watching from the top of the bike course and near the finish -- can't wait!
