i wouldnt say its a shade and how could you even expect aretha to take a listen and truly understand taylors music they grew up in different worlds and stuff .... i wouldnt consider it a shade ...

It's the straight face for me. A different era of shade throwing. It was quiet. It was subtle. It was impeccable. Folk didnt even realize they had been dragged till much later
I understand a lot of young folk who read this are not going to get my point, but I think Aretha lived in a time where artists complimented each other when they recognized hard work and talent without the help of attention grabbing gimmicks like autotune (that obviously didn't exist back then) or outrageous outfits, crazy wigs and ridiculous publicity stunts. People these days have changed to praise even the ones with little to zero talent and that may not always come from a genuine place, but it also doesn't come off as rude. Different times.

There is a reason she was queen of soul and #1 on Rolling Stones best singers of all time. She paved the way for many black artist and brought in class and discipline. Way more than “Just a singer” :)

Nicki doesnt really sing does she? Well her stage show kind of drowns out her talent so Aretha really cant get past that. I must say arethas dresses have been a bit much over the years as well...

@Mr. Parrot You make some good points. I agree that Taylor has definitely set her mark, and I admire the control she's always had on her career. And I'll pick her over many other "contemporary" artists (whatever that means) any day of the week. However, I feel that she's a one-trick pony - all the songs sound the same, whether it's the lyrics or the melodies. She's always the victim rising above all of the nastiness coming her way, bla bla bla, boys are mean, bla bla bla... She's the ultimate drama queen, no wonder so many young girls enjoy her work. As for Rolling Stone's list, that's a totally arbitrary thing (as are all these lists...), so to me that doesn't mean much. I mean, who's to decide whether Stevie Wonder or Leonard COhen "ranks" better as a songwriter ?

The illusion of versatility basically comes down to production and tempo. But hey, if you hadn't noticed that, don't feel too bad - in order to know this stuff, you need actual musical knowledge...

At least they're doing it over actual mega stars. In east Asia where I live, they're not just defending, but go on full war and insult battles over some boy band teens who could barely carry a tune and has never sung a hit, not one that's known by what's outside of that army of fans/groupies anyway.
Beautiful gowns and some PR stunts is literally what Taylor is. No voice, not a single memorable performance, nothing. What Aretha said is stilll relevant today.
I watched Taylor Swift perform in rain 2 hours and nailed it. She's a great performer, honestly. She cares about putting on a great show. This shade is still iconic though.

Taylor is so legendary that many years from now you'll hear about her. Taylor can do so much more than Aretha (besides singing; songwriting, playing instruments, producing tunes, dancing and entertaining crowds, directing music videos, etc).

Aretha changed how people sing and has raised the bar for generations after her. Taylor will be known for gowns, beautiful gowns... because nothing that Taylor has done is original - Tina Turner, Beyonce, Shania Twain, and even Madonna has being doing everything you said Taylor will be "known for" years before Taylor even broke onto the scene - And those women have done it better.
@@Damodred_Heiress yes, she’s an amazing singer-songwriter, lyricist, producer, director (she directs all her own mvs and even is about to direct an entire film). she wasn’t the artist of the decade for no reason. this is the same woman that won aoty 3 times at the grammys for 3 different genres.
They are all iconic. I visited New York last year and on one of their tour buses they were playing one of the songs by the lady with the beautiful gowns: Welcome to New York😂😂😂
