Watching that first scene where the "intimacy coordinator" was trying to do his job, I couldn't sus out if the show wanted us to see that and think "look at this fuckin nerd lmao he doesn't want a chick to get her boobas out" or "look at these slimeballs step all over this guy just to save some money on the venue without waiting to follow the rules" because I got both vibes. It really seemed like the show wanted to display how gross and exploitative the pop music industry is but also be super vibey and A E S T H E T I C, so what ends up happening is any message the movie is trying to convey gets muddled by the romanticism of exploitation.

I got scared of this show when I saw Sam levinson had the liberty to write about adult characters because if he sexualised fictional minors I don’t need to know where his limits are with adult women

atp the idol is basically men living their fantasies, it's so disgusting and creepy that there are men out here who literally or subconsciously have these kinds of violent, graphic thoughts and intentions towards women and it saddens me that we as viewers are manipulated into glorifying it through "good music" and "cinematic shots". the only characters i liked was the assistant girl Leia like she's the only one making sense and as for jennie i feel so bad cuz it feels like she's been used for her impact and popularity. hopefully this show get better and improve cuz i was really rooting for my girl jennie as its her first acting debut.

one little thing, The name of Abels character, Tedros, is a traditionally Ethiopian name because Abel is Ethiopian. You called it a stupid name and I think thats cuz you might've thought it was a weird play on the name Ted or some sort of weird stage name for an entitled popstar which I totally get, but the name Tedros is a traditional Ethiopian name meaning gift from God actually. Totally agree with this analysis tho, the show is superrr sus and doesn't convey the messages they say they are trying too at all.

Just a correction, it was the 'intimacy co-ordinator' that wanted to stop the nudity. It's a new role in the industry, created to keep actors safe and not exploited when nudity is involved in a scene/project, but a lot of directors hate them, because they claim that they limit their 'art'. I'm assuming that Sam wrote this in as a big 'F' you to them.

The reason zendayas character was great in europhia... is because zendaya says no nudity since the beginning of time.

I feel really bad for Lily. A lot of people are hating on her but she signed this project before Sam Levinson got in the picture. What you dont know is that in order to leave a production youve already signed into, it will take a lot of legal work and you'll have to pay a heavy ass sum of money. That and also you'll get "bad word of mouth" in the industry if they think you're flaky and just leave whenever you dont want to act in a role. Lily is obviously rich and a nepo baby so she has some privilege over some other struggling actresses. But this can explain why she didnt leave the production. Even if she for some reason did want to stay its just so icky and obvious how Abel and Sam are literally using her for their fantasies. Its sickening. I had watched Euphoria and definitely loved the way it was filmed, but for sure there were so many red flags. I heard about this project a couple months ago and read a couple articles about it and was just beyond flabbergasted. I’ve been flipping back and forth between if I want to watch it myself. On one hand it looks so pretty but on the other hand, as you said, it literally just turned into their male wet dream. I feel so bad for Depp tbh. 😭 I’d be curious to see if there’s any interviews that come out with the original writer. Adult male creators of teen girl shows are always sketchy to me. Just all that Gossip Girl, OC, Dirty Little Liars shit creeps me out (never watched any of those shows). Imagine if female directors just came in and redid all that men did for their shows. They claim we were men haters. In the show when they say mental illness is sexy she means that someone as beautiful and glamorous as Jocelyn is supposedly hard to come by in those areas and therefore her mental illness is attractive because otherwise someone like her would never associate with the people lusting after her in those areas. the weeknd has been my favorite singer for literally most my life at this point (i just turned 21) and he’s always had kinda problematic lyrics or meanings in his songs BUT he always positioned his music as a woman’s perspective especially s3z workers and i always found it empowering, to see the backlash from this show is so disappointing to me where im almost embarrassed abt it. im so beyond upset he would take away a job from a woman director when we all know how rare it is for a woman to be the show runner. this entire thing has made me view him so differently. his music is true art in my opinion but some of his true feelings towards women have been exposed and i just can’t unsee that, especially when i valued him so much for being so pro s3x workers and anti slut shaming.

I'm sorry but why is The Weeknd's misogyny flying under the radar? They fired the female director, who wrote and directed the majority of the show, which revolved around a young woman's struggles, and replaced her with a male director because The Weeknd felt "it was going too much into female perspective". Imagine if, instead of women, they fired a POC director who was directing a show about POC as a main character, and they replaced them with a white person because the show had too much "POC perspective". This is misogyny and it shouldn't be normalized.

When you made the black swan comparison it became incredibly clear that's exactly what they're trying to set up. I feel like they always wanted a black swan element to this, if it wasn't a direct inspiration. Levinson just lacks any semblance of a gift to be able to make that build and arc naturally. So we get "is she a better f*** than me?" shoved into our face combined with the dancing/singing rivalry when she gets signed. Ugh this is going to be such a trainwreck, I really wonder if the original version was a lot better. The scene in episode 2 where she cries for her mother is incredible and lily shows real talent, but the inserted Weeknd sex clips are so obvious and ruin the immersion. Dude really thinks he wants to say things about stuff, but he can't even recognise what he's trying to say.

Please do the second episode 😂 this show is something, that me as a woman would have watched and enjoyed. But i think what the weekends goal was, wasnt to make a impactful show, it was to act out fantasy and add one more notch on his achievements of being a big part of a show with the dimwit that directed euphoria and threw all of those actors into stardom.

I get it. Although I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with men writing female characters. I DO think that a lot of them need to learn to write BETTER female characters. Writing outside yourself is a great way to get perspective, if you're willing to do the research, that is. Which I feel is the real issue, honestly. Dude thank you! I and a bunch of others been feeling this way about the show and it was so obvious even before it came out. Euphoria’s highlights for me were when Rue was dealing with her crippling addiction while trying to hold on to the people she cares about. This just doesn’t have any of that same spark for me at all. It just feels super grimey. I get art should make you feel something but if that was the sole goal, this feels incredibly cheap.

I wholeheartedly agree with this entire video. The part of the entertainment industry that i loathe with a passion is romanticizing mental illness and toxic and toxic behaviors. People can be heavily influenced by the media and i am concerned for future generations if more of these shows/movies like "The Idol" are made. It is so messed up to just fetishize someone's pain and suffering, and it is also extremely unhealthy to fetishize your own mental illnesses as well. Yeah, it's all edited in media to look "cool" and "sexy", but once you experience that in real life, you realize that what you saw and idolized was just filtered and sugarcoated. Mental illnesses and pain is not a trend, it's not a cute t-shirt quote, it's not fun or attractive to have an addiction to nicotine/alcohol/v*olence. Mental illness is a real thing and it should be taken seriously with care and kindness. Yeah, sure, kindness and mental health resources aren't filtered to look "cool" or "sexy" or "edgy", but it is healing and something that should be normalized in today's world. "The Idol" should be taken down and canceled. Lily Rose Depp deserves better than this because she is so talented. To anyone going through intense and traumatizing situations, my heart is with you and please just know that I believe in you, even if I don't know you.
