Lol poor Ian. In all seriousness who do you think is gonna win the Candidates tournament this yr tho? My guess is Ian or Fabi but i hope for Pragg or Hikaru
More like if you fail, you go again until you succeed. I mean winning candidates twice (and losing the wc matches twice) is an achievement in its own and with Ding in poor form, you wouldn't want to rule out Ian as WC, unless a plot twist and Ding like Carlsen also abdicated his title and then maybe we see Nepo a three time WC candidate winner instead of WC.
The thing that's nuts about Ian in comparison to other classical greats is his speed. As we've seen in his matches title matches, he doesn't have the greatest peaks, but his floor is just so far above everyone else. Constantly puts people in time pressure.
Honestly I've followed Nepo's various candidate games and the moves made by the opponents follow the same pattern: completely drawn position with nothing happening, they over-push and bungle things, and then nepo wins. I mean who plays RB3 and traps their own rook? I'd say these games are much more opponents just being stupid and not being happy with a draw than nepo playing brilliantly and crushing things. I will credit nepo for his ability to play quickly but he plays mostly safe, fairly obvious moves. Its just that his opponents decide they need to play overly complex things and over push and then lose.
Or maybe he blitz moves until move 20 and opponents needs to think a lot ending with no time on the clock? But I'm sure you could do better than vidit 😂
@@sunburn74Well, that's how you win big things and big games, not by queen sacrifices and smothered mates. That's exactly how Magnus broke Nepo in that game 6 in Dubai. On this level, chess is mainly about nerves.
I agree, Nepo is obviously strong but I don't think his play has been that great at the elite level, despite candidate showings. Same for Ding in a lot of ways, the WC just hasn't been all that interesting lately
Vishy saying that he does not see the merit of Nh3. Now why would a former WCC say this?? Has he forgotten already that winning a chess game does not depend on making the absolute best move/s but it depends on making a move or moves that your opponent doesn't understand or at least understands it to the depth that you do. In simple terms, you've prepped this move deeply and your opponent is left to figure it out over the board which figure you a big advantage especially on the clock while he burns minutes calculating and you already know the possible replies.
This was my first video on your channel and felt its really instructive. I've been a serious chess player for 3 years now but I've only been watching Hikaru and Levy (just for fun I don't think his vids are instructive) Great Work man!
I dont like watching Levy cuz he just tries to make every chess game like a content creator. Agad's style is more instructive and you actually try to understand the game.
Levy only cares about his views and he operates like a greedy content creator .. Agad does what he thinks is best for the viewers giving an instructive and detailed analysis
Nepo is the mini boss that you must beat to face the final boss (Ding), and if you win you then realize the real boss (Magnus) is yet to be defeated and you aren't considered the best.
Great video as always Agad! If you could add the clock times for the players it would be great. That way we can see if/when they were struggling with time pressure. Thanks! #suggestion
Not all commentators have brains. I saw one Indian commentator predicting Vidit win well into this game 50% or more. I mean i appreciate support and everything but that's just blind.
I want to thank you for the coverage, I've followed every FIDE candidates and world championship through your channel since Caruana won, and your channel is probably the biggest reason I've become a reasonable chess player (nothing spicy, but I'm proud to be around 1800).
Even though he's lost the championship matches, Nepo always delivers clinical chess agains the rest of the contenders... Love this man's precision and outplaying in weird positions.
I think sometimes these super GMs get too inside their own heads and overthink things. Like, as a 1400-1500 myself, I can see visually trapping your own rook cannot be good! If you're in time trouble and not sure what to do, I think it's better to make some move that improves the position, rather than thinking of a complex strategy. Like putting my rook on an open file or something.
@@soxnation1000 you're right Some super GMs are idiots takes 20 min move where couple of moves are obvious If you're taking 20 min to move as a GM in opening something is wrong with you 🤮
Can we just take a minute to acknowledge Agadmator, Mr. Antonio Radic. Despite being an extremely impressive, powerful steed who for half a decade had RU-vid’s largest chess channel, never lost the humility, honestly, integrity and sheer love of chess that has made him so fun to watch. He is as responsible for the chess boom as just about everyone else. I, for one, am proud to been subbed to him since 2017, as well as having the opportunity to watch his channel grow and grow. Well done, sir🫡. Your actions should be commended.
Wow, only knew Nepo from his losing games against Magnus but against lower ranking players he's able to shine - his creative play and speed are devastating.
That rook looks like it is in jail. Nepo has been playing the best in the candidates so far. However, he played great the last 2 times he became the WCC challenger, and then in the WCC games he changed his style and lost both times.
I just watched Gotham coz you hadn't uploaded. I'm glad u did. I will watch while doing breakfast in a while. I don't usually watch Gotham. I am still urs agad.
Nothing against Levy, but Agad’s authenticity and genuine love for the game make him the goat chess channel. He’s a great entertainer too without being a tryhard.
@@starliaghtsz8400 You can't call someone a clown and claim no hate. You're already hating. Levy's style is catered towards younger audiences. Nothing's wrong with that. Both channels bring more audience to chess and it's great for all of us
What does Nepo think about when his opponent is taking 35 minutes on a move? Also, why do we only see "Good Nepo" at the Candidates but "Bad Nepo" in the Championships???
Nepo looking formidable. Perhaps he was stung into action by Magnus sceptical attitude towards his recent performances. Nepo seems to have superior abilities to calculate and remember lines, a real chess computer.
How can you move your rook to b5. I mean not just because it got trapped. But the whole point of it was attacking the b2 pawn, but how would that work, Nepo had 2 idle rooks on his 1st rank. How can a single rook outpower them both.
On stream they said, in the last candidates since 2013, the player who scored 3 points after the 4th round always won the tournament with 2020 being the exception, where Nepo scored 2,5/4, but still won
This is standard practice. It's in case a player promotes a pawn to a queen and their queen is still on the board. I've seen it where the arbiter has had to be called to bring a 3rd queen out after 2 pawns promoted.
Oh man, title shoulda clearly been: "Tearing down the Berlin Wall" (but maybe that would be a spoiler I guess). Great game! Thanks for the analysis as always
I think if Nepo 3 times in a row wins the candidates, that it is a better performance in classic chess than if you win 1 x in the WCC by Rapid or Blitz in Tiebreak... Great Game!
Only caruana can stop him. It is unfortunate if a 2800 rated player cannot win candidates. Nepo appears to be not under any kind of pressure. Only option for vidit now is to try to play good chess without caring about anything else. Things will go worse for vidit if he becomes nervous and frustrated. He should just play goof chess and does not think about anything else.
From what I have seen so far, instead of abasov, pragg and vidit, I would prefer abdusatrov, dubov and anyone else instead of these 3. Literally every was surprised that he didn't capture the pawn. Nepo changed 10 faces when he saw that. Very cheap play.
@@agpaok0704 I get your sentiment probably because Dubov, Artimiev, Abdusattarov are kind of players that bloom and thrive in pressure situations but sadly they didn't make it through qualifications. I mean we would literally all want Magnus too in this candidates but sadly he's not here either.
I am Indian But I root for Ian. he is someone so talented to not be a champion. to get qualified twice at the top of candidates speaks volumes. he is all set to do it third time
Strong game from Nepo helped along by some bad moves from Vidit I don’t think many people felt Nepo was a favorite to win this years candidate but here he is leading a quarter way through
No, Leko did not say he spend 5000 hours on one move. He said "in total, I have probably spent about 5000 hours analyzing the various possibilities of the Berlin"
Nepo has a talent for farming all these players in the Candidates like they're dummies, he never misses an opponent's mistake and always punishes it relentlessly. I often feel like he's a bit theatrical at the same time, like his awareness of the cameras plays a role in how he flows through those games. If he's winning it's an upbeat part of the movie, if he's losing it's a tragic downfall. To be honest I felt like a big factor in his loss to Liren was that he lost track of that feeling of being the main character, because Ding's story of how he got there was so compelling to many people and everyone supported him.
It did feel like the whole chess world was rooting for Ding. It suddenly spread like wildfire due to memes. I'd say some just joined for meme's sake. Then Rapport revealed to be his second and that made people root for him harder. Nepo just needs to believe that he's the main character again so he can *finish his story*.
@@GreenOrochi89 To be honest it's the very thing I don't really like about Nepo. As Anish once expressed, while commentating with Judith Polgar on Nepo's WC match against Magnus I think, usually when one wins a game they feel good about it, but somehow with Ian he often felt some distaste after beating him.
Surely rb3 was never good? I mean yeah against weaker opponents when it finally gets out there's counter play but in candidates your just trapped a major piece during the middle game
