The most requested next Best/Worst was the Imperium's Defeats so lets do it, this video became a lot longer than I expected so I have split it into two otherwise I wouldn't have been able to put this one out today - so *Part 1* is 5/10 Part 2 will follow with the rest, as always hope you enjoy drop a like if you do, Part 2 will be coming up asap.
After your done with the lore on chaos, how about a video that focuses on power derived from the warp--things like psychic powers, magic, weird phenomena, etc.
Top 10 worst “defeats” Number 10: Thunder warriors vs friendly fire Number 9: Kryptman vs Tyranid food Number 8: School children vs Dark Eldar in a white van Number 7: Horus vs 1 sword Number 6: Being a tourist on Cadia right around the time #13 shows up Number 5: Psykers during slaanesh’s time of the month Number 4: Magnus the Red not knocking before entering Number 3: the one day a world forgets to lock their reliquary as a certain space marine chapter is arriving Number 2: Space wolf who came out of the gate of Morkai with a boner Number 1: The emperor not reading his parenting 101 book and throwing that shit away
Blood Ravens are famous for apropiating relics from other factions within the imperium and even traitor forces. Because their reliquary is literally full of relics that dont belong to them. Thus the meme was born that they steal relics.
BY THE AUTHORITY GIVEN TO ME BY THE EMPEROR OF MANKIND, I DECLARE THAT THIS HOLOVIDEO IS HERESY OF THE HIGHEST ORDER, AND THE CREATOR OF THIS ATROCITY (really good video) IS DECLARED Excommunicate Traitoris, UNLESS HE MAKES AN AMENDMENT TO IS SINS AND A LIST OF THE BEST VICTORIES IN THE NAME OF THE EMPEROR
The local administratum has dispatched a request to bestow an honorary title and monthly stipend for this magnificent contribution to mankind's glory! ... _Aaaaaaand the courier vessel is lost in the warp..._ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Defeat is judged in the Emperor's eye alone, and I haven't heard any complaints from him for the past 11 thousand years ... So much winnings, Make the Galaxy Great Again
aka all of them outside few decent comanders of space marines and VERY few guard comanders ! even my cat can comand better than 30 % of primarchs , and i keep my silencium about guard and space marine chapters ( read chapters as failuers )
Khris Killer I loved that, as well- I meant to comment on it, too, but forgot until I read yours. Thanks!!! (Yeah, those little treats he throws in are so good- like Ice Cube in the Mechanicum video-makes me laugh every time!)
Khris Killer You bet, my friend! I agree- it’s great to know that there’s someone else out there enjoying things on a slightly more “in depth” way! Actually, I’m surprised that more people didn’t seem to pick up on that- oh well- I’m sure that you and I will be laughing our nuggets off next time before they even realize that a joke was made 😉. Until next time!
the Istvaan V Dropsite Massacre is one of those stories that fills me with real sadness. Those loyalists, who probably had no idea about chaos or what it does to people, wne there to put a stop to what they just thought was a rebellion. Admittedly a rebellion by their own brothers, but something they could comprehend. How unfortunate they had no idea just how far the taint really went.
Funny how I think the true secular EOM would have to do scientific dispassionate introspection and the religious zealotry of the inquisition would have disgusted him
@@JackMoore0311 The word bearers literally turned too Horus because he didn’t want anybody worshiping him. It’s was lorgar who wrote the lectitio divinitatus
The beast series.. 32:00 wrecked the galaxy.. and still are 10k years on.. the horus heresy was equalled with 2.5k years lol.. the big WAAAARGH!! is a threat
I´d also say that the fall of Cadia during the 13th Black Crusade was one of the major defeats for the IOM because of the fact that the Imperium lost one of its most important fortress worlds and also it lead to the expantion of the Eye of Terror. ( Sorry if my english isnt that good )
@@ChiotVulgaire THE EMPEROR IS A CORPSE THAT PROTECTS. { But in all seriousness yes he is a corpse, but it holds the life of the strongest psychic potential in the universe, maybe one day his godhood will be realized and literally kill the chaos gods }
The greatest defeat mankind ever experienced was when The Emperor of Mankind didn't decide to stash STC knowledge for use later. Seriously even Belisarius Cawl has more foresight.
I’m pretty sure he knows most of what an STC would, he just thought that human ingenuety should drive the development of the species, just like he ultimately wanted humans to rule themselves and not primarchs or astartes
@Red Velvet Emperor only knows when that will happen. Maybe when the actual main Tyranid fleet is smashing through to holy Terra itself? Still fair point
@@JohnWhiteHere For all the good that did, even Papa Smurf Guilliman is regretting giving so much autonomy to the humans. Look at how many world's resisted reintegration.
Krasus Dumat timing is everything and the emperors plan was stopped at the very worst possible time so the Imperium would supply Kaos with huge amounts of energy for millenia to come. You have to remember that he barely finished building the Imperium at all, its a miracle that it‘s lasted for as long as it has
@@JohnWhiteHere sure I remember but do you not find it strange that when compared with humanity of the past the imperium is nothing. Then let's not talk about the advances Cawl has done to not only improve Imperium weapon and armor designs but to improve on the Emperor's Astartes thru the Primaris Marines.
You could say the same about Orks. After a world has been exposed to the green menace they will very likely never be free of it. They will now be engaged in a long war Orks striking from seemingly nowhere
Tyranids evolve based on what they consume, further the Tyranids have eaten large numbers of Orks. It's only a matter of time before the galaxy experiences the terror that is a bunch of very orky gribblies.
You recount these apocalyptic tales of battle and defeat so vividly, i feel unease to my stomach. So horrible and tragic it is to hear, yet so incredibly captivating. This world really draws me in, and with a storyteller like you Luetin, it seriously adds to my 40K addiction. I just finished Horus Rising, and i cant wait to dig deeper into more books, to read it all for myself. Thank you for all your glorious effort, in making these amazing videos, for the joy of all. Imperial, heretic and xenos allike. Suggestions: # 10 lesser known xenos species, and their place in the 40k universe. # 10 Significant technological discoveries. STC-related or otherwise. # Astartes home worlds/Space marine chapters: I would love to see a series based on this idea. The history of these planets: Climate, natural ressources, primarchs, wars, culture, industry, the arrival of the Emperor and the crusade, and of course the invidual Astartes chapters’ connection to and way of life on these planets. Monastaries, fortresses, the innitiation processes and rituals of each chapter, and so on.
I’ve heard of the Proletarian Crusade and it’s failings (really that the entire Crusade is a catastrophe). This video gave me goosebumps listening to the descriptions of these battles. Well done, sir.
Just adopt the Ork strategy and say that you can’t be beat and that all “defeats” just don’t count cause you can just come back and try again. The Orks are really inspiring now that I think about it.
32:45 "The War of the Beast" *_"Dis Luetin humie's a good git, Ah tellz ya! He's gotta the roight finkin' bitz in 'iz 'ead!"_* 34:33 *Mekboy in the distance:* _"DAT MOON NEEDS MOAR DAKKA!!!"_ (I burst out laughing at that picture. Nice choice Luetin.)
The ultimate pyrric victories, by my reckoning. 3. Second ork invasion of Armageddon. The planet was almost useless. 2. Vraks. Need I say more. 1. Siege of Holy Terra.
@@Nutellafuerst Don't forget scoring some legio vulcanum traitor titan kills. Though Vraks would be useless to the Imperium for the next few centuries and all the weapon stored are gone. But still, saving a planet is better than exterminatus.
So wait. On the topic of the warp storms on Terra and the subsequent war. Does this provide evidence that the Emperor still can interact meaningfully with the outside world. If the Palace was shielded by something unknown it was probably him. Maybe there is hope for him yet
From what I know Terra is inside an unopened warp portal which is only kept closed by the Emperor constantly forcing it to stay closed with his psychic powers. The moment the Emperor fully dies Holy Terra will immediately be flung into the Immaterium. True Hell on Earth.
hey, luetin it might be an idea for these top 10 vids that you either keep the small card in the corner that tells the watcher what ur talking about or make a smaller one. I keep on having the problem of leaving and coming back to ur videos and being completely lost, a small card in the corner would go a long way to helping with that.
I actually agree with the Iron Fists emergency rule to return to legion strength. It was not like they would actively use it for every battle they were in; it was one of those ' oh no Terra was about to fall' rule. Personally think the high lords were in the wrong for ordering the immediate break up of the legion. Would of prefered them to rather say thay once the ork mennace had been successfully defeated above terra; then they must break up back into chapters.
Blimey! I've clearly missed a LOT about the lore of 40k. I had no idea about the Ork moon over Terra. I've spent many an evening just playing one video after another. It's so absorbing. Many thanks Luetin09.
Suggestion: how the crimson fists were almost destroyed during the battle of rynns world. Mention the insurgency that the remaining marines and guard fought while waiting for reinforcements and how they destroyed the gargants.
1: Flesh Tearers. 2: Blood Drinkers. 3: Flesh Eaters. 4: Skin Goblins. 5: Organ Consumers. 6: Astral Blood Seekers 7: Dick Eaters. 8: Fleah Dickers. 9: Those who eat flesh of other humans. 10: And Blood Angles successor chapter because they are fucking CANNIBALS!!!
The first Crusade saw the end of Sigismund and destroyed a big Black Templar fleet at the start. In this time Abbadon found his weapon and so much worlds were destroyed.... It was a massive defeat for the Imperium
Personally I love the long videos, unlike other lore channels you actually go into vivid detail and don't ramble off or repeat yourself.just wholesome (if sometimes heretical) knowledge
One thing you forget about the Attack Moon over Terra during the War of the Beasts ; once they managed to destroyed it, the debris of moon base ended up getting drag by the gravity well of Terra and threatening to crash on the planet. With the orbital defenses already in ruin and few ships on their disposal to shot down the debris in the upper atmosphere, shit tons of debris have crashed everywhere on Terra, destroying some large cities and killing millions of citizens. It was a very bitter victory that day for the Imperium of Man...
The traitor legions each had their reasons for their betrayal, but i thought one of the main reason was b/c the traitors thought there wasnt a place for them when the crusade was finished, they feared a time where they would not be needed...right?
I wonder why some say the "Razing of Monarchia" was bad writing. Istvann V and others show that Big E. *_can_* make mistakes. But if anything, this just shows that He was human, just like any of us.
On the galactic scale, the Imperium is very much on the "losing" end it's been slowly slipping for centuries and mostly held together by it's own bulk. It won't go down without a fight though.
The Orks of 40k seem like the GW boss promised he would let his 3 year old son come up with an army and it proved too popular among some to retcon out of later editions for basically being a cartoon next to the rest of the setting. Like a similar vibe to the BAS asking the Internet for a name for their ship and getting "Boaty Mcboat face"
I am a simple man, I see a video detailing the events that will lead to the inevitable defeat of the Imperium and the sad pitiful death of their so-called "God Emperor" while his people weep in despair and the realization they will die slowly and painfully...I give a like.
I have two Necron candidates for the Imperium´s worst defeats. "The world engine." And the Fall of Orpheus. Both destroyed an entire space marine chapter and destroyed an entire sector.
"leaving them gasping for air" until they win the next "costly victory", and so on. it no longer is costly when seemingly every engagement they come out on top and yet there is this narrative of "wow its gonna take them centuries to recover!" it seems very kind of the myriad of enemies to wait several centuries and allow mankind to recover
Honourable mentions: The Imperium's attempt to contain a huge blob of overpowered cancer (I.e. The Prisoner of the Emerald Cave) Macragge during the first Tyrannic War. (*Big Off* for my boi Calgar) *C a d i a* And most painful of one *The loss of memory and care for the Imperium by the Highlords*
These videos make me wish that total war would make a total war warhammer 40k series. Don't know how feasible that would be but it would be impressive game design on their part.
The Imperium already lost the one battle that truly mattered: they lost the Emperor. Without his direct leadership, the Imperium is doomed to a slow death of attrition against the unlimited resources of eternal Chaos...
