"Because as we both know, without purpose, we would not exist. It is purpose that created us, purpose that connects us, purpose that pulls us, that guides us, that drives us; it is purpose that defines, purpose that binds us."

Dear Adam, I agree with every word. As a Qigong teacher who has spent decades practicing, and is still searching, it saddens me to see the intolerance, pride, and misogyny that is so common today. Thank you for your integrity and way.

What he said so totally true. It's why I shake my head when people say that all they need to is to take this from this style, add a dab of this from that style over there, and add something from a third style a VIOLA! I have everything! The human body does not work that way.

The dual engine vw golf was a pretty badass engine swap. The Lambo engine swap analogy made me think about that car. It's was on the 1320 channel last year

And yet Huang integrated White Crane and Taijiquan, no?
@sevenstarsofthedipper1047
@sevenstarsofthedipper1047 4 месяца назад
That he did. And, according to Patrick Kelly’s book, when MasterHuang showed Cheng Man Ching his training White Crane manual, Cheng Man Ching said that Master Huang already had the first 10 years of Tai Chi training before he even began teaching him.

And master sun lu tang was a master of hsing chuan and Bagua with master Guo before learning han small frame chen tai chi which he then merged into a form synthesis claiming that all internal arts are one 😮

Question - something like Sun Lu Tang's taijiquan art, where it mixed various styles (taijiquan, bagua, xing yi quan), is that something like a Chop Suey?

Thank you i've been arguing with people about this for a while because now lots of Chinese kung fu masters from the mainland are arriving in the US claiming to be Masters of 10 different styles including Tai Chi Chingy Mantis bhagwa Baji Peachwan etcetera Etcetera and I have explained that it is impossible because these styles all have very unique requirements and the body and nervous system is developed very differently in each at best they are masters at one style and use that power and superficial movements of the other styles. In addition it would take many lifetimes to really grasp all of these different routines exercises idiosyncrasies.

What Adam says about the contemporary "intellectual vanity" is so true also in the wider societal context and in the area of "sustainability". We think that we can outsmart our way out off the ecological disasters we have caused. "We will not work it out. Sorry." Like Shifu says, arrogance is the problem and humility the solution.

Adam, I respect what you're saying here, because it not only makes logical sense, but in my humble experience, I've found it to be true. With that said I feel compelled you ask your opinion on a couple of things for clarity. Question one, do you think that an Art like Systema would fit well, or is similar in aspect, to Tai Chi Ch'uan? Same for Silat (witch is another Internal Art, or so it says). The second question is an extension of the first, which is, if the answer to the first question is yes, would it be a good idea to integrate these three, "Styles"? I only ask because from the outside, they look like three sides of the same pyramid (of course I could be wrong). Please forgive my ignorance, and presumption, but I'm terribly curious and fascinated by this. Thank you for your time.

it is my view that the movement in each style is generated in totally different ways.

I wonder, if the old Chinese Martial Arts systems were so superior, why did the boxers loose so hard against the Europeans? To my understanding even today many traditions like the I Ching have almost been extinct because the Chinese view(ed) them as useless. I‘m down with having a system, but if it’s so secret and hard to get it right… maybe it’s better to stick to no system, or a method that doesn’t require such a strict system - or otherwise how can I be sure that the system I am following is correct?
