I was working my 15 month old on open fields yesterday ,wearing a hi vis vest saying "Dog Trainer at Work" and a guy with his Golden Retriever comes up asking why isn't she allowed to play with other dogs?. One she is not interested in other dogs and two she is working and gets all he play,tug etc comes from me. I want her to think of other dogs as non existent .She has dog friends at home after all. She is a working dog and has a high drive in all she does. Great video here as always ,thanks guys :)
Laura's Life Don't you just love uneducated dog owners! People don't get real true dog training! Someone stopped my heel training early in just to ask me if I was training. Yes, leave us the eff alone! I tend to ignore people when I can and become a bitch when I need to be.

I love this and have done all of this with my intact male and he LOVES interacting with me and the toys and food but at new places he does not care about me or toys at all !! He wants to check out all the dogs and THAN he gets to work! o you think I should correct him for this ? NOTHING I could have would be more rewarding than the new dogs. Thanks Kim
This is all great. My dog is a 3 year old GSD who has been rehomed several times. I am working on building engagement with him and I notice that you refer to puppies a lot. Best to start early, I agree, but it is still worth trying to train an older dog, right?
Yep from 8 weeks to 25 weeks is main development peroid. If u miss this peroid and dnt start at 8 weeks you are screwing yourself and your puppy. Adult dogs alot alot harder to train but it possible. My own personal experience taught me it's not gonna be the same as when you start at 8 weeks.
She said the dog had been from home to home and she just took him in. She didn't have that choice. Engagement can always be achieved and it's never too late.
Michael says to do engagement instead of puppy chasing leafs. Now should I do engagement when I take my puppy out to go to the bathroom? Because when I take him out he likes to chew leafs and branches.
I'm sure you know he shouldn't be allowed to chew on branches! You could always put your dog on leash and go outside with your dog much easier to keep him from chewing twigs.
May I ask if you have tips to help with a dog that has a hard time in the obedience ring and sniffing? We are struggling with our 2 year old cocker spaniel but am finding this habit has become an issue that I am trying to correct.

Can you turn a overly nice malinois into a ppd? What I mean overly nice, I’ve had this girl since week 8 hand fed her lured her into positions since day1 knows all of her commands (we do them daily) and is eager to please in a timely fashion. I can take her to a busy road speed limit 45 we set 10 feet away and do the commands. (Sit,platz,set pretty, spin, roll over, leave it, come between, come to heel, back up set, here) she is flawless we see a human and her brain leaves her head, pulling on leash with all her might (with or without prong collar) whining, yelping, gets to the human jumps on them, lunges at their face wanting to lick them, crawls in and out of their feet whining the whole time won’t listen to a word I say. I never have had this before. S.O.S lol. She is now 6 months.

@@DougZaga - She's saying that "getting your dog trained, should be just as important to people as some look at getting their dog fixed as an absolute neccesity". She's not saying LITERALLY all dogs need fixed or that fixing a dog is the end all be all. Its just that the same crowd that's always screaming at breeders as being "murderers" and insist that every single dog everywhere should be fixed, are typically the same type of people who's dogs are chaotic and completely untrained and a complete nuisance. (I seen her comment something similar on one of my buddies videos a long while back and we had a back and forth conversation about what she was trying to convey. Because I was under the assumption she was saying "all dogs must be fixed".)
I still don't agree. Not everyone believes getting you dog altered is a good thing. If it weren't for people with love of the breed and good genetics the breed would be crap
Prioritization goes to training because there are more opportunities for bad outcomes with an untrained dog than a surprise litter. It's math. The surprise litter can be controlled by the owner taking responsibility for the pet. Instances where fixing matters are predominately owner caused due to negligence or financial hardship. Fixing has been the marketed response to negligent owners than for example licensing pet owners and means testing because profits. Anecdotally, fixing is also used to "solve" behavioral issues that may have been due to poor training. Unfortunately, this mentality has led to people fixing their pets very early in life. In these cases, the pet owner and vet should be charged with animal abuse. Fixing pets before they are sexually mature leads to health problems later on in life. For a dog, sexual maturity is about 2 years. If an owner can't control a dog for about a year, fixing will not correct owner negligence which will manifest in other forms at some time. It boils down to fixing is not a natural occurrence. It's predominately marketed as a convenience and a profit source. This must be weighed against what would naturally occur in a dog's life. Sure, dogs adapting to digesting more carbohydrates in their diet is an adaptation wolves don't share since we don't hang with wolves, but it was done over thousands of years. That's not to say things like vaccinations aren't important. However, legislation for vaccinations is often driven by profit, not what is best for animals, or people. Fixing is primarily a cover-up for owner negligence because if owners had to be qualified, like they have to be to drive, the market would be a great deal smaller which means less money for the unscrupulous.
They have PLENTY of free videos with plenty of info. And twit DVDs are PACKED with tons and tons of information.... You act ad if them advertising is a bad thing? Lol. How the feel so you think they can afford to produce DVDs, lectures, and put on shows? Their business pays for all that... I mean, isn't that what all businesses do, advertise to generate sales to create revenue?

only thing that is not good here is the fact you train with food. it is bad and you should never do that it exites the dog whenever its around food and itd not really trust towards you its more like you are a fridge to the dog and the dog is following your instructions to open the door to get the food. better is to tell the dog it has done a good job. now i dont say you cannot learn from those who train with food, everybody can know something you dont, for example if everybody knew what i know nobody would train with food. it can be done the first time to lure the dog to shape a certain behavior and to attach that behavior to a command but ones the dog gets it that when mom/dad says this then they want me to do this, then food and other treats should be excluded from training. only trainings that should always include food is when training puppy/dog to be calm before eating and when trained not to eat off of the ground. you can still learn from others who train with food but i strongly advice you tell these people aswell that training with food is not a proper way of creating an unbreakable bound with your dog. anyone with food can get the dogs attention, now try that with my dog it wibt no longer work since i have trained him without food and to keep focus on me instead of visual or other stimula such as smell and sounds
its like a job, if it would not give you money, so you can buy food, most people would never consider learning whatever it is they working with, because most people doesn't work with what they want but with what they know. if you want to work with what you know you need to change the way you look at your job and what you want out of it. if you just want your dog to listen not really giving a shit if it cares about you, food is a great way to train it. Same here if you just want to survive, working at McDonalds is quite a good job. think about it, change to a raw diet and stop training with foods its not good for your dogs psyche and physical health
