I have fear of having my bp taken, I now have fear of the machine, the noise and while the cuff tightens, I can feel adrenaline running through my body, I have to keep taking it, the lowest I got was 132 over 82 but I was still anxious, I feel I can’t get a Normal reading now I have this fear, it’s not just at the doctors I’m now scared to do it myself.

I have that really badly too. I’m just now calming down abt it. My doctor was trying to double my bp meds and I was telling her I didn’t believe it was that high usually because I swell a lot when it’s truly high and I wasn’t. I was right. When I relaxed and cussed myself out the numbers came down to normal. I still get a higher number the first time so I sit still and wait several minutes for the second reading. You will get a baseline eventually but obsessing abt it drives it way up. In her office my bp was 198/100 at home it was 126/70. Anxiety will drive it crazy high don’t let anyone tell you differently. Still we must watch our stress, diets and drink water and exercise. Hugs♥️

I’m usually very sceptical of RU-vid videos on health, even some where the creators are , or purport to be, qualified medical practitioners. But this series, from a consultant cardiologist giving us all the benefit of his advice free, with no dietary fad to peddle or product to sell, is worth its weight in gold. This is what the internet is for. Ideally it would on free to view TV, as a series of shorts, perhaps with similar episodes on other aspects of health.

Fear was my enemy when I was dizzy and the doctor, after just 1 test, said I had high blood pressure and put me on meds. Fear was became my friend when I realized that the meds. made things worse and I took steps to eat healthy and exercise. Now I don't have high blood pressure and I don't take meds. anymore. So the problem isn't fear, but how it is being used. The fear of God is a good think because we have sinned against Him and need to have our sin debt taken care of. The good news is that Jesus took our punishment on the cross paying our sin debt in full. What He requires of us is to repent and put our trust in Him for eternal life and then we can enjoy Him foreverMore. Thank you for this video and helping me understand all the details of blood pressure.

I wore an ambulatory bp monitor..I was so stressed by it, my bp was much higher while I was awake...and lower while asleep.. My doctor implied that it was a bad thing to have low bp at night. I refused to go on meds b/c my bp was normal when taken at home (we have a bp machine).
@nimmen
@nimmen Месяц назад
How are you today? I measured 160/80 at the doctor's office while I was there for a different thing (I was pretty stressed by that). At home, over the span of a few days, it slowly came down to about 130/80. They suspect it might be stress related because of this. In a few days I am getting a 24h monitor. They want to measure a full day/night cycle because if it drops at night, it's even more likely just stress. If it doesn't drop there's a different cause that needs treatment. Maybe lifestyle changes or medication.

I told the Nurse practitioner that he had never used Albuterol before and probably needed it once a day, if at all. She said, "I'll check on that." Bless her, she did, and my dad had 5 doses of Albuterol removed. He lived for three more years without weird rythyms until 92.

My blood pressure is always high when I know I’m going to see a doctor. It’s starts a few days before, while I’m there and I feel fine when I’m at home. I’m stressed because anything I mention he’s ready to prescribe a pill. Never heard him say anything about changing diet, exercise, anything, just pills. So both my husband and I are doing what we can to better our health naturally ,through diet, walking, vitamins, sleep, whatever it takes. No body cares more about us than us! And when my time is up, it’s up! When the Good Lord says so❤️

This is exactly what happened with me, I ended up with atherosclerosis, got a pain down my left arm, during exercise felt sick and came out in a cold sweat. Ended up with an angiogram and my pulmonary artery was 95% blocked. A week later I had a triple heart graft. Now 3 years on, I am on Testosterone replacement therapy (Nibido), due to low Testosterone. I feel way better now, I go to the gym 4 times a week and play walking football at 64y, I am fitter now than I was in my late 40s. I suspected low Testosterone complicated all of your health, just with inflammation in your body causes your arteries to harden, so I also take vitamin D3 and K2 together to help remove the Calcium build up in my arteries and hopefully help put it back where it should be, in my bone's. I hope this my help someone.

I then have to sit upright and after a while my heart rate will go back to normal .. I certainly believe should be given a 24 hour blood pressure monitoring i am certain that my blood pressure is higher at nights

I would really appreciate a video on blood pressure differences between both arms and your arms and legs. I would demand that ambulatory blood pressure monitoring before I would accept drug treatment. In the US, you have to arm yourself with knowledge or your doctor’s health insurance records algorithm loves to over prescribe and the doctor has to override that in order to treat you individually. Not all are willing to do this, especially because their records can be searched electronically for their compliance with insurance “guidelines” and their malpractice insurance rates raised accordingly-making it very costly to treat you.

I’m a pharmacist and absolutely hate the big pharma. I’ve become very jaded and believe that the companies are only out to profit. When I read an article, I make sure the researchers are not based out of the US since the clinical studies are manipulated and skewed to benefit the particular drug that’s been presented. I’m working on lowering my mom’s BP naturally. She is on 5 medications and her BP still spikes to 205/105. She’s not obese, exercises and eats healthy. Some supplements to consider: magnesium, glutathione, lipoid acid, L argenine, vitamins A C and E, non flushing niacin and for nocturnal high BP, melatonin.

I have such bad anxiety. If I did the 24 hour one, I know it will shoot up when I feel it taking it. Very very well explained Dr Gupta , I am one of those non dippers where I have normal BP in the morning but it does not dip in the night but it increases but then since ones blood pressure is normal in the day time giving a blood pressure medication could put you into low blood in the morning and that is not desired either . I love your teaching lectures and have sent them to all of my family and friends. I have a question My Mom and twin sister and 3 younger brothers all had heart surgery and they are healthy ,have a different diet than me and we are all healthy weight I am 67 and can not breath or do anything any more, and have mild COPD and went to two different cardiologist for tests , ex-rays , stress tests, ultrasound, and they said my heart is in better shape then theirs . Every time I leave the house I seriously feel like I am going to die from exhaustion I am 5ft weigh 113 and I smoke . Can mild COPD make me feel this Horrible? or could it be heart?

I was suspected to be having a gestational hypertension and was given different kinds of medicines. I got terrible side effects from dizziness, muscle pain, blurred vision, and the works is chestpain and difficulty breathing while experiencing chills and cold sweat..since i gave birth i was given a bunch of medicines..consulted different cardio coz each time i brought up the terrible things i experienced, they will tell me it will just go away and tell you to follow prescription .can they at least consider the terrible side effects rather than the bp numbers?

You should do a video on the newer technology used in some watches which don't rely on the inflatable cuff technology. Some measure throughout the night without you being aware of it. The accuracy isn't quite there yet but you can calibrate with a reliable inflatable cuff or simply add or substract as needed and we have the best of both worlds without that inflatable annoyance and stressor.

My blood pressure goes up at night. I can tell when it's high because it wakes me up and I can't get back to sleep. Also, if my calcium is high I can't relax into a deep sleep because my shoulders won't relax. When I take a glucocorticoid which is in my asthma puffer, about 10 minutes later I fall into a deep sleep. I dream a lot during the night, rem sleep is not a problem. My calcium is a little bit above normal, but my doctor didn't think it was serious. I take hydrochlorothiazide for blood pressure. And arginine if it is higher than usual.

In my opinion, the medical establishment needs to be more accepting of devices available to the general public. While, yes, it may infringe on their propriatary methods, it is far more accurate in the long run. Personnaly, I send my doctor ECG and BP reports complete with graphs monthly. My doctor and I then discuss the best course of treatment based on a months worth of data vs 24 or 48 hours from a 24hr BP monitor or a Halter Monitor. The medical profession needs to move into the 21st Century and stop holding their cards so close their chest for the sake of profit.

Dr., I use an Omron BP device that connects to my phone and every time I take my BP, it gets recorded. I don't have a regime of when I take my BP. It may be in the morning, mid-day or evening. However, the software that records all of these readings sorts out the time of day and gives me a monthly report with specifics as well as averages by time of day. I suggest people invest in a BP monitor that sends it's readings to a smart device with software that can analyse all of this. Putting on a BP monitor for 24 hours is still only a "snapshot". A monthly average is far more revealing than a 24 hour assessment.

Thanks again doc for your videos, they are helping me a lot to understand this complicate thing that scares me for a long time. I am a sport guy , 43 years old and my pulse use to be under 60. I never check pressure when sleep because i have not a machine for that, but i check my heart rate and the average during sleeping is around 40/50, has this think some relationship with the pressure? I should assume because the low heart rate that pressure is low as well? Thanks 🙏

Given that ones blood pressure at night is low but high at times during the day. Taking blood pressure medication based on the daytime readings will cause the patient to become weak and dizzy when waking and standing due to low blood pressure. I think it's better to take the medication at night because it seems to take 8 to 12 hours to reach full effectiveness. This is based on my current experiences with blood pressure medication. Your observations are reality based. However, current blood pressure diagnosiss and treatment is based on fantasy that a one size fits all approach suits everyone.

Thank you for your videos. That's what i call a real doctor. Not just give pills and bye. Honestly all doctors i have been to so far make me feel even worse about myself when i leave. Cos i want them to find the cause at least try, for my "high blood pressure" which I'm not even sure i have, cos they gave me pills on my first appointment. And now i just hate the pills cos i became anxious and what not. I have a question. Can i have a 24hr monitor while on high blood pressure pills? (Been taking losartan 50mg and nebivolol 2,5mg for a year now) Also they make me continue taking holesterol pills even tho my holesterol has dropped to 3.5 in 6 months. I don't see why? Maybe it was temporary. I would appreciate a reply. Thank you!

I wish my doctor explain it like you do so refreshing to hear this video. I tried for years to get my doctor to do a 24hr test but never was offered. So I paid for a 24hr test though AXA & my results where during the day the average was 141/83 & my night time results where 116/65. My doctor wanted to increase my medication from 4mg to 6mg of perindopril but I've not done this. Do you think I need to increase my dose. Keep up the great work you do. Many thanks Mark.

My mother's bp rises at night. Between 7pm to 10 pm.. it rises rapidly. For example, we take her bp 8pm 120/80, then 8:30 it rises 140/90 then 9pm 180/100. And it rises up to 200/100 not until i give her " catapres" under the tonque medicine. Then it starts to go down. Thing is, her bp is normal in daytime. It only rises at night. Her bp havent risen in daytime. Its always at night. Why is this????

I was on Ramipril 2.5 mg for a year - I've recently come off it (without telling my doctor) and my BP is now LOWER than it was while I was on the medication! While on the medication, I continually struggled to stay under 140/90 - I've been off it for three weeks and now I'm usually around or under 120/80. This morning it was 113/75 with a 60 pulse. I think my HBP was caused purely by anxiety - I'm now practicing meditation, relaxation and deep breathing and try not to get stressed by taking my BP. That alone would cause so much anxiety and frustration. I would literally see the numbers climb as I worked myself into a state of panic, which is how I ended up having to take medication in the first place! I still monitor my BP twice a day - and replaced my machine with a new one to make sure I'm getting accurate results, but I no longer get stressed about it, knowing that even if it gets a bit high (which now it never does!) I can control it with my breathing. I also follow a whole-food diet (no sugar or ultra-processed food and I've cut out caffeine and alcohol as well) and stay active but I made those changes a year ago when I was first diagnosed. I think the anxiety (or the medication?) cancelled out the benefits of my healthy eating. The medication itself gave me anxiety knowing that I was putting chemicals in my body that could damage my kidneys and cause hyperkalaemia. When I saw my last blood results with borderline high potassium levels that increased sharply since I started taking Ramipril, I panicked. That's why I decided to come off the medication - this was not something I could have discussed with my GP - they just don't have the time and I know they would have wanted me to stay on the medication as it is easier for them. Instead, I started taking some supplements regularly in addition to a healthy diet, lifestyle and stress management (garlic oil, grapeseed extract, moringa powder, L-arginine, as well as vitamins D, B12, B6, B9 and magnesium) - not sure if any of these are contributing, but something must be working after a year of struggling with the medication!
