In this video I express my opinion on why I think video games aren't good for people. I explain why they are bad and how I was able to break the habit.
The objective of the video is to help those who want to quit gaming and to spread word of why there are better things to do.
I hope people can learn from the video as well as take the next step of improving their personal life virtues.

This video needs to be viral. I'm glad that I have the honor of the first comment. I already made the decision of quitting FIFA since I have been playing the game for 8 years. Now I'm quitting the game to release my potential in my studies, my fitness and my football. A English footballer Tammy Abraham A.S. Roma's current Striker once said:" I'm not playing FIFA because I'm working on being on FIFA". the guy now has a great card in the game and one of the best young English strikers in the world of football.

I was suffering due to heavy anxiety so I went cold turkey on video games and porn, and well my life changed 180°, everything so far is better, no more anxiety or depression or anything just clearer mind, best relationship with my gf.... Nice to see the people are feeling the same, (sorry 4 bad English btw ) .... Keep it up dude

I recently quit video games three months ago because I realised that playing from age 10 to 27 actually stopped my brain from growing. I feel like I don’t have the social skills of an adult and I’ve gone nowhere in my career. Gaming is as bad as any other addiction.

I once read a quote that said "The time you enjoy wasting isn't wasted time" and I have been using that as an excuse to justify my gaming habits to myself, but in the past couple years the looming feeling that I am missing out on more than I realize has been growing and this video came to me as proof of that. Thank you for sharing this, I will get better!
@rockyino99
@rockyino99 Год назад
you need to reconsider that quote my friend. because enjoyment isnt the end all be all in life. many things that will actively improve your life arent enjoyable. also the modern world is made to be a pleasure ridden amusement park where everything spikes your dopamine in the most predatory ways. many obese people probably live by similar statements as they enjoy eating until they literally die. so sure, its not time wasted if you dont cosider it wasted but their has to be more to life than controlling 3d models behind a screen

I agree with this. I’ve been gaming damn near my whole life. They hold a special place for sure. But, going from sht factory job to sht factory job, my desire to rise from is way stronger now. I don’t even have an urge that strong to play anymore. I suggest people make a daily checklist of productive task before doing any leisure activities. For example a few of mine are 100 push ups minimum, 30mins-1hr books, 30mins-1hr of studying business. Depending on how much time you have left in your day after your task, you can consider leisure like gaming but limit yourself as Finicio said if you must play.

@@IamFinicio I have made the decision that I will not buy any future games from this point on. I will only play older games every now and then, sometimes that might be up to an hour to no more than two in a day (never for even half of my waking hours). I have gone months without any games at all numerous times, even about an entire year. The time to stop playing any games forever might come soon, might not, but the time to play far less than I spend working, learning/reading, exercising, engaging in various hobbies, bettering myself in every way, etc. is now and forever. People throughout history have always had downtime, played various games as well, whether skittles (like bowling), card games, chess, etc., even adults, even highly productive ones, like great composers, inventors, writers, leaders, etc. They of course were not playing all day, not even most of the day. For those who spend a large part of their time playing games over other things, they should definitely quite forever, at least until they have improved their lifestyle. By then, they will likely not even want to play games anymore anyway. I hardly do either, except for a select few, just every now and then.
@TiredofEarth

its different for everyone, a lot of people get hooked on games and make it a priority over their real life and their real life gets negatively impacted. if games negatively impact your real life then its a problem, if it doesnt then its fine

A reason why I rarely play games recently is, that not only I am being tired after a job, but also I have more of the other activities such as working out, drawing, participating in the communities, etc. A proof of this is recording videos much rarely than I used to back before 2022. I've had more fun playing a new sport, learning cooking and even cleaning my backyard than gaming. In my opinion, gaming provides an empty accomplishment, i could beat a game and get that trophy but what then? How would that platinum trophy improve me as a person? There's nothing wrong with gaming, but at the same time we need to be wary of how we spend our free time as time goes on. We don't wanna look back and regret where we invested our time to. There is more to spending free time than video games (and other consumption-heavy hobbies)

Thank you so much, very inspirational. I’ve been playing video games since I was like 15 years old or possibly younger I’m now 22 going on 23 and realized how many years I’ve wasted of my life playing video games. I could have spent that time going to the gym, learning martial arts or any combat defense because I was never taught how to fight. Or even playing sports in school but instead of doing those normal things kids do in school I’ve decided to isolate myself from the real world and live in a virtual reality for years and waste my time playing video games. I need to make a change, I play like 7-8hrs it’s ridiculous. I want to make a schedule to workout, read books to improve my intelligence and develop a more social status in life and much much more. There’s so much more to this world than playing video games instead of leveling up in a delusional world we should all focus on leveling up our real life character. Thank you once again! Okay you win, I'm going to try this. Recently realized my entire life is consumed by video games, when i'm not playing games i'm on twitch consuming video game content, when i'm not on twitch i'm on youtube consuming video game content, when i'm not on youtube im on discord watching my friends play games, when i'm not on discord i'm thinking about video games. I rarely spend more than 2 hours a day actually doing anything productive that benefits me. I worked out yesterday, and my first thing though was time to reward myself. And proceeded to spend the next 6 hours on discord and games. Couldn't do something productive for 2 hours, but was fine playing video games for 6 straight? Don't think I'm strong enough to dry quit. I don't have some overarching goal, something that drives me all day everyday. I obviously have a desire to improve myself like most people and can identify good habits from bad ones. And I have thought, Ive taken the advice of sitting in my room and just thinking. And there was really nothing that made me feel that way. But that isn't an excuse to just waste my life away either. I can at least start preparing myself for when I eventually find my purpose. And I'm going to start today. 2 hours a day (Genuinely dont think I can do this tbh because of how much of a socialization video games actually take up, but i'll genuinely try) of playing / twitch / youtube / discord. I can spend all 2 however i want, but after that 2 i have to go do something else. I have a lot of projects I've wanted to work on. Just to build my portfolio as a human being. But i never stick to them, easier to play video games. So hopefully with that crutch of entertainment I can start working on them. And hopefully by the time the semester rolls around I can go weeks without playing games and actually focus on school next semester (something i can say going into my second year of college, I have never genuinely done, which is kinda sad)

I respect what you mention about video games having a negative effect on our lives, but this is how we thrive as humans and it hurts to have the realization to accept the fact that you also have to look at the pros of having video games. if I had you have so much free time I would just rather grind on my PC and PS5 than deal with the world and try to do something for myself which is a benefit for me but it's a skill that I would need in the future. furthermore ill will learn not to play as much or have any screen time unless I'm researching or learning for goals for my career but its a hard process to accomplish

The push up strategy is amazing, I came up with the idea on my own but I see you and others do it also. It's quite effective because after those pushups you already change the chemical stuff going on your body and it's easier to go through the craving. This one also applies for quit smoking. Tbh my guy games are rigged they were never meant to be fun all they care about is who's closest to the server in pvp games and favor them in everything from hit reg to movement everything u can think of you almost never win if your far from the server as a personal gamer myself I just don't see a point the only things u can play is like horror co op games. Strategy games. Puzzle games racing games maybe but if ur far from the server even the traffic lags why spend five hours on a strategy or puzzle game when there's a certain playstyle u can do that will always land u a win or so on once u master those games there's no skill gap at all because there are limitations in games so even strategy and puzzles aren't that great it would just be random if u won or not depending on who did it first or just plain random and if it does come down to who does it first in a puzzle game u again run in to the same problem of them being closer to the server because they would start the game right away while ur a bit delayed there's no. Point in gaming anymore everyone's a try hard in a mini van playing outside the server building u can't even touch them in pvp like there's just no point in playing at this point if you still wanna game that's fine but ur not doing it for the fun I feel like your slightly in denial because last time I played it wasn't fun at all the whole point ur playing is to try and win u can't do that if someones so close to the server their breaking the logic of the game like hitting u when their not even near u and so on there's no point ur just playing to lose then the guy is gonna send u a trash talking message saying how bad u are like I already receive enough of that in my day to day life I dont need to hear that my dad's already abusive I don't need to hear some random guy talking about how sh I am at the game I'm sick of that and some of these people have this good of connection and instead of using it to stream or something they just wanna use it to bully other people and then they barely make any views doing it anyway and ik what ur gonna say what about fighting games pertty much the same problem if u have a higher ping reaching ur data base vs ur in-game ping then ur ping is still higher than theirs this means they can react and do things u can't do all of this is why i quit it's worthless the low ping players feed off of us if we just quit playing they'd go out of business but no one understands that ur playing to lose that's it

Great video, I appreciate you sharing your personal experience and giving reasons to quit + realistic tips on limiting gaming. The most impactful thing (for me personally) that I took from this video is that it is okay to say no. I'm autistic and it has been extremely difficult for me to make friends offline so most of my friends are people I game with online, I have a hard time saying no to them but I've had to, a lot. I only game once or twice per week and limit myself to 2 hours max, that's almost nothing compared to how I used to be (I played nearly 5 hours every weekday, around 7-9 hours on the weekend). I've now made new friends offline, I have more money/time to pursue things that really matter to me, and I live a more stress-free life. To anyone reading this- you deserve to beat your gaming addiction and true friends will always support you when they see you trying to get better.

Great video, although you and I have entirely different views on personal growth from what I grasp. I spent a year away from gaming and I realized two things: I actually like to play on occasion, as much as I enjoy good movies or great books; there's way too much crap being released these days, and that is, indeed, poison (just as much as bad plays or poor music are poisonous to one's mind). So, yeah, I agree with you, although I do think some games are worth for their critical value and wealth of perspectives and creativity. After being away from games - it began with religious motivations - I realized that it wasn't gaming that took away from me. It was letting poor experiences, which aggregate nothing, take over most of my time. And that goes for repetitive work as well. Ever since I've been on the lookout for anything that introduces meaninful growth in my life - not just success or health, but spiritual and existential growth. I gotta tell you, there was a cut - to all poor interactions in my life. Not to people, however. No matter how odd a relationship can go, it always teaches you something. On the other side, more prayer and meditation time, more reading the books I love, more tending to the needs of my people... Solid advice, man. Keep it up!

Recently I've been getting bored of everything, even playing videogames which was like my hobby or something. I've been thinking of just stop playing but, as you said, I feel this urge to keep playing because I don't have anything more to do, or so I think. Through this year, I've noticed that this "addiction" I have is getting out of hand, affecting me in my personal life (in terms of studies, mental health, etc), and while I don't play as much, I still spent hours of my day just watching videos or social media in general. For a long time I have this idea of going to a gym but my head always makes up an excuse to not go. I don't know if anything that I wrote makes sense, my English is not that great, but my point is that your video really makes people understand the benefits that involve quitting videogames. In my case, I really should start looking at options of things to do instead of playing so this addiction stops. Wish you and everyone have a good day/afternoon/night.

Think about how much time Game developers spend on making games fulfilling for us to fall back on. That's why we go back to them. Yep, I've writted it on another video, so I'm going to spare time. Happy to see other people notice these things, probably it means we are really getting mature, growing up. Here is the comment: Lefting games best decision of my life. Played them since when I 3-4 years old. Now it's been 20 years of gaming and it's been almost three months without gaming. The problem with me is that I always wanted to create ''another me'' inside that virtual universe where I was a winner, while in reality I was doing almost nothing. Now that I've left I could focus more on doing what I like to do and I don't have anymore that bad feeling that I need to continue my mission inside the virtual world. What's the difference? That in videogames every level up, unlocked objective/trophy, ecc...will disappear, because someone could turn off the electricity for ever, your save game would be lost or the game will be shut down, so everything you did and you have dedicated many hours of your life would disappear and you will feel so bad. Right now I'm back from a 1200km bike trip and feel so great, ready for another one. I don't fucking care about videogames anymore, I can focus on work out, running and bike, and I have much more time...And stay all day with that posture, on a monitor that cause me dark circles under the eyes and brain fog..definitly not worth it. These old jewel games are just good memories, replaced by trash games that wants your money and time and want you to be a nerd porn addict that live in a virtual world. As you said, isn't a hobby anymore, it's a work. Maybe you work all day, go home and do a second work, this isn't funny guys. Today games are toxic and made only to hook your brain, I remember the bad days in HOI4 or CK3 where I was so addicted and could play for hours and hours without stop. These games are made like these because they want you addicted. Need a definitive radical cut. Going to sell my two graphic cards, their value I think is almost 400-500 bucks, but isn't easy to sell them on the used market so I will sell them for less, and get some stuff for running or for bike. Thanks for reading and happy to see other people that start to understand how the modern game industry works and want to left or at least make a radical change like stop support certain industrial logics.

I'm not disagreeing with the video or saying "you're dumb" for holding the opinion that everyone should quit playing games, but I would like to point out a concept that works wonders in all areas of life: moderation in all things. You could argue the same thing about regular games or sports as you're mentioning gaming--if you're spending 20 hours a week playing basketball and it is causing you to fall behind in other areas of life, it's time to cut back and MODERATE. I don't say this next part to try and make myself sound "better" than anyone, but to offer another perspective. I enjoy playing games, somewhere in the ballpark of 5-10 hours per week (mostly on Friday/Saturday night for 2-3 hours in a sitting). That said, I'm a couple months away from graduating college, have been working in my career field for the past 3 years, am married, and have plenty of other hobbies (mostly things like mountain biking, snowboarding, etc.). No one aspect of my life has dominated another and caused me to fall behind, gaming included. It all comes down to PRIORITIZING the right things and MODERATING how much of those lower priority things you do. Like they say, too much of a good thing is a bad thing.

I’d certainly disagree. You should be spending as much time as possible doing the things you enjoy as long as you’re not harming others. Money should never be your objective in anything in life. I’d agree that playing for multiple hours a day can be harmful, but at the same time we spend a lot of time crying over wasted time and procrastinating. It’s certainly a situational thing but ‘video game le bad’ isn’t really particularly substantiated. Your virtues and objectives in life shouldn’t be this manosphere dogshit “make money get FIT!!”. Things like playing video games aren’t mutually exclusive to being fit OR having money. People oftentimes recently grift the fitness paradigm so that they can make money leeching off of you. Aim to create a life in which you have the most amount of time to enjoy the things you enjoy. “If I got hit by a truck tomorrow, would I be able to say I’m proud of what I’ve achieved?”.
@IamFinicio
@IamFinicio Год назад
That’s an interesting perspective. I appreciate hearing your take on the matter. People have different interests and expectations in life. I do agree life shouldn’t be all about money or fitness, however those were the things that made me excited and made me passionate to stop procrastinating and to stop playing video games. My life has improved dramatically since. Everybody’s different at the end of the day and nobody is right or wrong, just enjoy your time.
@ShouldntBuild
@ShouldntBuild Год назад
@@IamFinicio I’d make the point that video games on top of an already unhealthy / unfulfilling lifestyle can certainly make the issue worse, but again having that option as an outlet to distract people from the many treacherous, necessary trials and tribulations of the human condition is invaluable. We often view things black-and-white and never offer others the benefit of the doubt or consider alternatives. The biggest problem nowadays with video games and social media is definitely the side effect of procrastination and worsened attention span. People tend to procrastinate as they don’t realise their time here is limited and are always waiting for “the right time”. Freeing your mind from societally imposed shackles of expectations (money, knowledge, experience, fitness) allows you to become stoic. Exterior experience should never impact your state of mind. (realising I’m kinda rambling here, but I think that one meaningful conversation can change people’s entire perspective on things, hopefully someone can find some depth of value to these comments :) )

Its a okay video but i think your points are kind of bs. I tried to disprove them. 1. Video games are bad for you: While some studies suggest that excessive gaming can have negative effects, it's essential to consider the balance and moderation. Video games can also have positive effects on cognitive skills and social interactions, especially in multiplayer games. 2.Decreased productivity: It is true that excessive gaming can lead to decreased productivity, but the same applies to any activity that consumes too much time. Proper time management and self-discipline can help maintain productivity while still enjoying gaming. 3. Companies want to keep players hooked: While companies aim to keep players engaged and spending more time on their platforms, it is ultimately the player's responsibility to manage their time wisely. Gaming companies provide entertainment, but players have the power to decide how they use their time. 4.Designed to keep you comfortable: Video games are designed to be enjoyable and engaging, but this does not mean they prevent personal growth. Many individuals find joy and relaxation in gaming without compromising their overall development. 5.Time spent on gaming vs. other activities: Understanding the time spent on gaming is crucial, but it's equally important to recognize that individuals have diverse interests. For some, gaming is an essential part of leisure time, and it doesn't mean they are neglecting other aspects of life. 6.Realizing the impact of excessive gaming: Recognizing the impact of gaming on one's life is essential, but it doesn't necessarily mean quitting games altogether. People can set healthy boundaries and create a balance between gaming and other activities. 7. Peer pressure to play video games: Peer pressure is not unique to gaming. People face it in various aspects of life, and it's essential to prioritize individual goals and interests. Surrounding oneself with supportive friends who understand personal choices can help maintain a balanced lifestyle. 8.Moderation is key: This video suggests quitting games altogether, but moderation is a more reasonable approach. Enjoying gaming in moderation can provide relaxation and entertainment without causing significant disruptions. In summary, video games can offer both positive and negative aspects, and individuals should find a balanced approach that suits their lifestyle and preferences. Moderation, time management, and self-awareness are key factors in maintaining a healthy relationship with video games and achieving personal growth.

@@IamFinicio I think the urges for pron and junk food are harder to control. Maybe everyone is built differently, for example many people struggle with alcohol but I stopped drinking over 10 years ago

the time I thought I need to stop playing games is when I realized that I am already 25 and have no jobs, no goals, no clue to live

I used to play destiny nonstop on most days until realizing that I was neglecting the upkeep in my backyard and letting it get out of control until gaming habits changed and spent ten days of getting the garden into shape during spring and summer on other days I go out visiting places for my social media accounts. And most recently cancelled both subscriptions for the Xbox games pass and PlayStation Plus by saving money then I was spending it on do I regret quitting gaming absolutely not. Most other reasons why I quit because being on medication due to being diagnosed with Myoclonus a form of epilepsy that caused by a malfunction of the brain that triggers violent shock and seizures in the body. Lastly it felt like the best decision I have made.

Something i have learned in my life is that you need to let people be who they are and that there is a time in your life for everything. Video games fit in perfectly with my life and reminds me of how my ancestors before me played passionately stickball and marbles. I just genuinely enjoy life and feel there is a lesson here: there is more in the being than in the doing. Take care.

Godam, it's actually pretty crazy when you put it in another perspective of when you were a kid lets say like in middle school or something & the only reason why youve always been so addicted to video games is because you lacked social life, was probably going through depressed from bullies, bad grades, etc. And its almost similar to turning to drugs, ig that just goes to show how much of a simulation we live in

I see what your saying but as a gamer myself all I hear is unjustified excuses and hypocrisy reason why because I’ve hear this my whole life from people who don’t know anything about games or don’t play big dog you only get 1 life to live what’s wrong with fun man huh….. you can still stay focus with school work and self improving while gaming you act like video games is drugs or alcohol video games have saved people’s lives from depression and sadness I can relate to it if you feel that way that’s a you problem not a me problem im keeping it real the same people talking about videos watch tv and movies all day and probably is reading fiction books or comics all I hear is hypocrites from the same people all day a simple fix is balance your time don’t say quit and get rid of it how can you say something like that 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️

I can understand that opinion. I’m my experience, when I quit vg and put 100% into my self improvement is when I saw the most growth. Everybody has a different style nobody is right or wrong. We’re all entitled to our own lives and how we want to live them. This video was just my take on the matter. Maybe next vid we can see eye to eye brother

You're playing the wrong game. Video game have genre too you know, same as movies and books. They're not all shooter, or mmorpg, or gacha, or cellphone game. Even I feel tired reading the same type of book, watching the same kind of movie or eating the same thing. The most important is the fun experience. Not playing like a chore. Games are a play of logics and commands. They even have story, world building and characters for an added elements of play of words and circumstances, same elements as in book or movie. It was fun watching my nephew figuring out what to do and how to use the controller in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. I add fun beating the last boss of Tiny Barbarian DX figuring his pattern, your character placement and where your eye should focus on the screen for the incoming attack. Or beating Sonic & Knuckle for the first time after many attempt when I was just a kid, with zero life and zero ring left.

I feel like the "Reject Video Game, just prodooce" people think video games started and ended with Flappy birds, as if Legacy of Kain, God of War, Prince of Persia or even Age of Empire didn't exist.

Most of these videos are made by people who were addicted and managed to quit, that's why the change in their lives is so big and they end up hating video games...........they ignore that while they were playing their games for 8 hours a day there was another young man who only played 2 hours and then went out to exercise but they believe that anyone who plays video games is as addictive as they were. im 28 i play games, have a job and runs marathons for example

that's something you've been told to keep you weak and stale, the reason you spread it is because it gives you dopamine, an escape pass.
