I feel that "underrated" is not such a bad thing. It affords artists of this calibre the opportunity to produce work worthy of their gift; to appear on the most prolific stages, and to retain a sense of decency that would be - otherwise - lost were they to be "rated" and widely-celebrated (mainstream) for being as exceptional as they inherently are.
Depending on the upcoming daytime Emmy's she may make history by becomming the 2nd black EGOT winner. and the 13th overall winner. Very very rare. all in only a year or so of her American career.
I'm the same here. After watching her sing " Alfie", I've been non-stop watching all available videos of her. I'm excited to watch her this year in the movie "Wicked."

She sang this as though she was connected to his vision and emotions. His ambition became hers and she expressed it through song so that we could all feel it. Very soulful. This is what it means to be a singer and psalmist. You’re fully engulfed with the emotions of the song. Anyone with a nice voice can sing, but not everyone has this type of connection to what they’re singing about. I’m in awe. They couldn’t have chosen anyone better for this occasion. I’m inspired. President Kennedy would be moved by this I’m sure. What a great way to be honored.

I love Cynthia and this is great. However, I feel the lyrics are so simple but profound that it doesn't need all the dressing up in this arrangement. For me, Bryan Stokes Mitchell has still done the best version. Just my opinion.

Good god. I first saw her in the movie "Widows". Wondered who that was. Looked her up in the credits. Had never heard of her before. But I keep hearing references to her here and there over the years so I looked her up just now on youtube and found this. And. She. Is. AMAZING. Now I have to find more.
