Cynthia Erivo Delivers an Emotional Tribute to the Victims of Pulse l 28th Annual Glaad Media Awards 

God bless everyone here listening to this during this pandemic.

I wrote Cynthia an email via her manager this past summer. I'm not sure if she ever got it because she was in the middle of The Color Purple, and I know how it gets when an actor is in the zone. But when Pulse happened, it really got me in the gut, a constant wave of insecurity and fear and sadness. At 31, it brought me back to being a young child, bullied and suicidal. All I could listen to for weeks afterward was her rendition of "I'm Here." It was really healing, and I was happy to see her play Celie before the show ended. Thank you, Cynthia, if you ever see this. You really embody the healing power of music and art.

Gay as I am, I have a huge crush on this woman.

She is everything: she has the sweetest tone, she can belt (obviously), she has control, she interprets songs beautifully and she sweeps you away with her emotion.

The way she says, “but I’m NOT the the only one,” sounds immaculate.

My first view of this is in July of 2019. The most powerful and indelible stage performances are the ones you didn't know you needed to witness. Thank you for this, Cynthia. 👏 WOW - what a 👍 great 🎤 ‘cover’ of an “older’, yet well known, classic song from the past! I’m going on 70 now, and grew up hearing Lennon’s original on the radio almost every single day. But truth be told, I never really cared for it until hearing Cynthia’s rendition in this performance. IMO she’s a gifted 🎁, talented vocalist, and sings with so much emotion and passion that it spreads to my own 💖 and soul. * Although I only ‘discovered’ Cynthia about a week ago, I’ve since been listening to/watching much more of her. IDR how I even came across her name - most likely in a duet with someone else known to me. Regardless, I’m very pleased to have discovered this gem 💎!

I hate it when people in the audience “whoooo” during a speech or performance , really gets in the way of a performance and is a little bit rude in my opinion.
