In this week's episode, we discovered an impressive abandoned mansion, known for its nickname "Mansion of Malediction", while it is yet not certain for us why this place is given this name. Built in 1888, this impressive manor is sadly enough vacant now for more than a decade. Nature is taking over, leaving the property in advanced states of decay. Enjoy the episode, as we explore the interior of it in every little detail.

Man I wish I had your job I hope you make money at it but I don't know but you got a good job for your age I used to love exploring old houses when I was younger. I even lived in some I had no place to live but I didn't do that stuff Break Stuff in graffiti. I live near Buffalo New York one time it was 10 degrees below zero I found a cabin that was open with electric. And an oven. It probably saved my life. All I had was my clothes I was 16 and homeless well I had washed my clothes and hung my clothes a few feet away from a heater. I went to the hotel and somebody came in there and said your cabins on fire. And I said don't tell anyone what cabin? Yeah I had a tough life I don't know about you guys. I lived in a place with no roof under five feet of clothes to stay warm old nasty clothes. People's cars.

It’s incredibly sad, to me, that such a beautiful place was allowed to decay like that. Even if it was the black mold that caused then to have to abandon the home, why didn’t they save the furniture? (And all the other things). I just don’t know how people can walk away from something so beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with us.

I LOVE the light over the dining room table!!! And the living room one. Fascinatingly beautiful. Kitchen: it is a can opener on top of the microwave. I love some of that wallpaper. The wallpaper in the main bedroom - beautifully done. I don't know if you noticed but the color theme is following the hanging lights. Turquios/green Even the tile floors in a bathroom. I think that was another bedroom but the bed has been removed.

You also give us a look at how it was for the family that lived there. It’s a little sad to think that someone died that lived there and this is all the belongings that they left behind. Best regards and keep up with your explorations. I hope you never stop to discover new places to keep us so interested in places and people of the past and ...who knows...maybe the present. It never ceases to amaze me the number of homes, small to this size, empty, unloved. Whereas once there would have been laughter, love & the noise of a family going about there business. What would they think if they saw their home today. The fake flowers do give the appearance of life. The picture of the child looks like the 50s as smocking on the child's dress was very popular around then. Your genuine empathy for the family & home is very commendable. By all the decay upstairs, the owner had to be removed for their own safety and protection. They only took what they could. I love the respect and honor you bring to the people who lived here. It’s too bad you couldn’t find more information on the people. I used to sell Avon and the little plastic umbrella in the bathroom was an air freshener. It contained scented wax chips and was to be hung in a closet to keep clothes smelling fresh. I liked seeing all the needle art; the needlepoint pictures on the walls, and the crochet doilies and the long runner on the fireplace mantel. Besides being a mansion it gives the feeling of having been a home that was enjoyed and happiness shared within. I loved the big beautiful chandelier too! The chandeliers have my vote and you do, too! Here is a nice quote I found: "Beautiful things grow to a certain height and then they fail and fade off, breathing out memories as they decay. And just as any period decays in our minds, the things of that period should decay too, and in that way they're preserved for a while in the few hearts like mine that react to them. Trying to preserve a century by keeping its relics up to date is like keeping a dying man alive by stimulants."- F. Scott Fitzgerald

The little hanging ornament that looked something like a closed umbrella at the 28:18 mark is what I believe to be a pomander. It holds scented beads or potpourri. The little holes would let the scent out. Also, the urn that you were concerned held someone's ashes looked to have a little spigot (or tap) on it, making it a coffee urn. It's such an amazing and beautiful old home. It's sad to see it just rotting. I would love a home that amazing. Thank you so much for sharing.

Having grown up in an 1849 brick farmhouse, I do not find some of these buildings old. In some instances, elderly folks are spirited away to nursing homes and have made no plans for their homes, even if they linger for years. Here in the USA, the home might need to be sold to cover the cost of care, but in countries with socialized medicine, that might not be necessary. I am not familiar with medical care in France.

You know people will take things but there is just no excuse to ran-sake a place tossing things all over no need to do this.... to get what is a treasure to you. Why be a pig? Please please please be respectful and at least help to keep windows and doors kept shut. So as to keep the elements of rain, cold , snow out and the animals. I know Explomo people are very respectful at least and do not do bad things to the places they visit and film. It is an honor and a joy to glimpse at the wonderful homes filled with love.

My guess is that these people aged, had to leave for a nursing home and would have eventually died there. The wheel chair lets us know someone was debilitated. The couple would have needed only a few clothes in a nursing home and so would have left most of their clothing. Most of the family's things date from the 70's through 90's items and gadgets. The wall paper looks 1980's when that type of floral patterns were in fashion. Cassette tapes date the 80's and 90's. It looks to me like that family may have lived there from the 70's through 2005. Some 35 years or so. I don't think this family was wealthy from their things. They look pretty average in taste and type. Certainly the original family would have been well to do or wealthy and may have left some of the larger pieces like the dining table and chairs and even beds when they moved on. That's not uncommon when people downsize as they get older. The dining table and chairs look Victorian and may have belonged to the original Victorian owners/builders. Maybe no one ever thought the house was valuable enough to salvage or perhaps thought it was too expensive to renovate. The artifacts from a child were left behind in the house all over, like people do when a child dies. Maybe the child dying was why no one apparently claimed the house. All pure speculation, of course.

The little pink plastic parasol you asked about in the 2nd floor bathroom (with the wood paneling and flower wallpaper)was from Avon and is used in closets to make things smell good, you would keep fragrant beads inside. Most of the wallpapers are from the late 70s and 80s, probably when most of the remodeling was done.

The candle holders on the piano, is probably an indication that it was made prior to electricity. The urn in the office is not for ashes. It has a spigot on the front of it and a matching cup. Probably a coffee or tea urn. Also, how did they get that chest freezer up those steps to the third floor?
@Explomo
@Explomo 4 года назад
Hi Frank, thank you for your interesting feedback! Wonder how they managed to get it all the way up there too. Most of these pianos were indeed manufactured before the era of electricity :-)

What you called a microwave was a toaster oven. the other thing looked like a can opener and maybe an ice crusher? What a incredible place. 8:28 I think that might have had port in it. I often see small barrels like that for port. You keep adding on top and it gradually ages. 14:11 Electric can opener 17:04 I think that piano has a bug preventing it from being fully operational :) 18:52 They are actually called "dolls" in English. Puppets are special dolls with strings attached so they can be used in a performance. 21:50 I don't think that is an urn for ashes because it has a tap at the front and a cup underneath. Probably used for brandy or spirits. 26:57 Two large artillery shells Thank you for another fine video. Was there a basement in this house? I saw a door under the main stairs that might have led down further. Or perhaps it was just storage under the stairs.

Thank you very much Dexter for your very descriptive feedback. As you know, I love to learn new things of the places I visit. There was a basement in the house, indeed as you've seen under the main stairs (good eye for detail by the way!). It had some canned food and they used to store their wines there. Unfortunately after I edited the video I realised I did not include this part in the video. Sorry! :-)

What a magnificent explore , a couple of things you pointed out , first in the kitchen the device you asked about appears to be a can opener to me and I don’t think the container was a funeral urn because it had a cup that matched it although I could be mistaken. Both of my favorite explorer teams in one episode how great is that. Great find you guys a fascinating location, filled with incredible artifacts. You are all looking so good and healthy I’m glad you are using your masks, I’ve been watching you since your first explore. Love you guys. I always wonder what happened to these people it’s just as if they got up and left one day and never came home. Nobody to reclaim their belongings, maybe they had no children or parents and they died in a car wreck while on vacation. That device was a can opener.

There was a time I think in the 80's and 90's that Nazi war criminals were being hunted for prosecution of their crimes. Some were most wanted criminals and those who were found were put on trial. So they would have left everything to escape capture.

Looks like it was entirely redecorated in 1970's American style with furniture and cabinets also in the style of what was popular in America in that period. There are only a very few valuable pieces. Except the outside, all the style from 1888 is gone on the inside.

Hi Tracer..! I agree 100% - to me it looks, like only these re-electrificed former petrol-chandeliers and one wall-lamp over one of the bedrooms doors date out of the building time - and correspond with the gorgeous metalwork of the staicaise's handrail... Rest of the leftovers dont look like remains of wealthy french people...most is quite ugly souvenir-trash to me - except the 50ies lamp-table in the diningroom, some same period chairs and a few small ceramic- & glass-items, wich sell in a fleamarket... These french houses stay abandoned, cause governement takes FIRST up to 40% taxes of the estimated value (cash..!!) if you want to take your parents heritage over - you cant sell it and pay after, thats hard. There are ways to avoid this miserable situation, but you have to plan early - like ten years in avance... Best regards César
