Fun Fact: The original reason for Tetris being developed was not just to replicate a popular brick game but the original use for Tetris was to test Computers for the Soviet to see how well the computers performed. Tetris was one of a small group of 'games' having been developed for the same reason. It was eventually made into a an actual game because the testers enjoyed using Tetris to test the computers more than any other testing program at the time.
The idea of the USSR owning the rights to Tetris makes more sense than you think. When you work in a US university and invent something the patent rights go to the University (so long as it was made using university equipment/time).
yeah! the reason why russian communism failed is because no one legally owned anything, this game would have made them f*ck tons of cash if the corporations let them have it
Nice to see that your mind goes from "here's a fun little game everyone could play for free if they wanted, no one needed to own it" to "let's make as much money as possible and limit its distribution purely to those that will pay to some corporation that had nothing to do with its development, like giving blood to a leech". Neat.
25 years later, I am still addicted to it. Got an Android version that I really like, not so much the game but the music called "Blockrow Classic" but none of them beat the old Nintendo version
Lucy Acton I agree that both the Nintendo and Game Boy editions are very good and probably the best in the well known category but I challenge you to try Block Row. I see it as the best copy cats I ever seen. If you have a Android then look up "B-Row" in the Play Store If you don't like it then uninstall it and we will have to agree to disagree. All in all, between the three, I see no difference in quality. All three are fun, despite being the only game I know of that is both addicting and guaranteed to lose.
i know snake can be played on youtube because that circular loading marker will start the game when you (or anyone really) presses a arrow key while it's loading but i do have to agree with the whole we don't need a ton of games just 2 old games that have no end
I know the Game Boy version of Tetris only goes up to level 30 so even though it can't be "won" that's as fast as it gets and from there you can max out the score. I think the lines max out at 99,999 and the score at 9,999,999. I've got a copy of classic Tetris and Tetris DX with all the files maxed out so I don't really play that much anymore but I do play newer versions occasionally. They're not quite as good but I do like most of them.
And the natural successor to Tetris is Polybox. It's Tetris with another dimension. Great if you love Tetris, but if you're good at Tetris you'll have to learn it all again.
Tetris and Lada, the two and only Russian export products EVER made if you don't count military equipment. The latter can be seen as a cruel torture device though.
Not a bad video at all. But I recommend everyone go check out "The story of Tetris" on by The Gaming Historian here on youtube. It is a well done in depth documentary that runs about 45 minutes.
I would like to write a screenplay about Alexey Pajitnov, Henk Rogers, and the battle to bring Tetris to America. That would be pretty cool considering that I want my script to be like The Social Network but I can't write like Aaron Sorkin.
Eric E. still doesnt explain anything. a lot of people dig around watchmojo after they cant stop watching a video and they search for more around the channel.
Tetris can never be won? The Nintendo Versions had a mode B that has a different height settings with the levels, 9-5 setting as the highest level ive beat that a TON of times...
You still don't beat it. You completed all the stages! Yay for you! Where's your trophy? Your achievement? Your endgame storyline? All you got was a high score. Plus, A-type (Marathon) genuinely has no end, and more people play that than anything.
sector150 First of all, that depends on your score, not what level you reach. Also, how does that even come close to "beating Tetris"? Have you ever reached level 20? Have you ever gotten the Kremlin to launch instead of the rocket? If you do that, come back and tell me about beating Tetris. Which you still won't have, because it's a score based arcade puzzle game.
It has not spawned improvements. It has spawned ATTEMPTED improvements. Nobody has ever improved upon the original, other than graphically and musically, but can you blame them? It's a little hard to improve upon perfection... Except in golf, of course.
a bit wrong.. it has nothing to do with tennis wtf.. it comes from a word tetra-four, in tetris each block is made out of four pieces. Get your shit right.
love Tetris ;] i didn't know that it came from Russia lol Finally, the stupid inhuman Soviet did created something thats fun and useful for the human race hahahaaa
