@Lino Andrade "pitch" here actually has nothing to do with angles. A long climb is broken up into multiple sections called "pitches", which are usually about the length of the rope. Each person has their turn climbing the pitch while their partner sits still and belays. Then reset and do the next pitch. Alex, notorious for his love of fast and risky climbing, suggests "simul-climbing" or simultaneous climbing with a "running belay". In "simul-climbing", the belayer is also climbing while the lead climbing is climbing the next pitch. The team can move much faster up the route, but there are many more moments in which a fall could lead to serious disaster.

I watched Free Solo recently (the documentary about Alex's free climb of El Capitan), and it's fantastic. I don't really know anything about climbing, but it had a great mix of Alex's life, his motives, some insight, and actual raw footage with helpful commentary of the climb. Just totally worth your $4 to rent some night in the future.

Palisade, Starlight, Thunderbolt, Winchell, Agassiz, and back to the car in 24 hours. I consider that to be one of the greatest mountaineering feats in US history. Free solo is an execution... a 100% no error performance. You don’t solo unless you know 100% you won’t fall, rope climb allows you to adventure new routes. Which is obviously going to make up most of his climbing

I'm 60 and this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Rtulnwuew2c.html is what I did two days ago. Wasn't difficult, but I did have to break trail in fresh powder for several miles. Last October, my son and I ice climbed V-Notch and Polemonium Peak in the Palisades in a day from Sam Mack Meadow. One of my day hikes last summer was 25.5 miles and 8'300' vertical. Getting old isn't the problem, getting lazy is. On the way back from The Incredible Hulk, they could hit two natural hot springs if they wanted to.
