In these dark and dismal times I crave the joyful music this band created a the beginning of the seventies. I am so grateful to German TV for preserving this for posterity.
Indeed Chris. I agree . BTW Rose has recently written a book about her time with the band you might like. There will be a "virtual" book launch here facebook.com/groups/1530562813829624/ on Sunday 13th December at 14.00 GMT. strangeattractor.co.uk/shoppe/muse-odalisque-handmaiden/
I've just seen this Danny, sorry to be late: Wizz Jones and Brian Kennedy did the tune and I wrote the lyrics - as explained by Wizz in the video posted on my FB page. Clive's version and many others are included, so check it out :o)
Alan Tunbridge Heard it,love it and i love the other songs as well. My friend Betsy and i have been really diggin your songs and the sound quality on some of them is just wonderful such as Magical Flight and City of the Angels. That great analog sound, can't beat it.Thanks Alan.
Love how this band got so huge ... they demythologised the whole star thing... just some friends having fun. And coincidentally producing great music effortlessly.
Never get tired of listening to this. This performance with the girls singing on it has transformed the version on the first album into something really great. Pity it was never recorded.
i LOVE IT! I hate music that is "too perfect" and slick with violins backing it up in a recording studio. You'll never, ever, have to worry about hearing this in an elevator, or "on hold" on the phone from a business call. It's so original and honest. And the attitudes and demeanor of the musicians is so laid back and care-free. Live music like this should rule!
+Danny Comer Just read your post after posting my elevator experience. Too funny! I totally agree though - wouldn't it be great if elevators and other public places offered wild music to kick us in our butts like this does?
For being so imperfect, this band really is great! My first time hearing them. There is something very underrated about not needing to be too exact with your sound.
In a world so full of hate this vibe is more neccesary than ever. Many albums of this band that i heard around my 12-16 years, i can say, change my life, specially "Hangman's..."
I remember back in the late seventies, I got in the elevator in my college dorm and two guys strolled in with their acoustic guitars and played the shit out of the 9 floor ride. Love double acoustic leads like this. So fun!

the incredible string band are always part of me ,licorice always in my thoughts, this is my fave line up, love robin, mike, licorice, rose, /wee tam and the big huge is my very fave album, also i looked up, love all of them, across the airwaves is wonderful, /licorice and rose, sweet,

I think this band was around the same time as the Late great Sandy Denny where Sandy was one of the great.singers of all time this band is not .I listened to one of their not long ago my opinion of this band is horrible singers , horrible songs and a terrible band
I did. Every bit as sweet as you think. The Likky you hear on records and see in videos and in album artwork, that really was her. An absolute darling.
Americans weren't the only ethnicity who had a stronghold on the folk rock sound. As a matter of fact, the Fairport Convention and the Incredible String Band were the strongest folk rock acts to ever come out of Britain, with their rural sounding acoustic guitars.
ive always love the ncredible string band , love this song , clip, one of my fave clips, so uplifting, [love licorice and rose, always think of licorice ], beautiful voices , song , clip, even my old kettle is whistling the blues for you
Real hippies singing. This is so cute for some reason. Who cares that it's not "perfect"? They're actually singing and playing real instruments, so it's so much better than the synthesized stuff people make today, in my opinion.
Now I "get it"! This band is fun and entertaining as well as artistic and acomplished . They're just more interestingly competent. It will grow on you after a few listens.
Yes exactly. Their sense of humour is part of the same picture that has momento mori, wistful sadness and quiet spirituality and the rest in it. And all from the heart even when misguided or a bit silly. In short like most of us, I guess. Licorice.. wow... to see this rare, treasured video of my Licorice.. what a treat.. and just playing this over and over.. will we ever know what happened to our Licorice after disappearing for over 35 years... she was so underrated as a folkie but I hope she will not be forgotten by ISB ers .. thanks for downloading this.. it is like finding a tape of sandy denny and jackson c frank combined (and we only have 20 seconds of jackson c frank on video on you tube)
@@ilovenyiloveny1140 maybe it was due to ISB refusing to perform in the rain on day one with the acoustic acts and moving to a less desirable slot (for their type of music) to day 2
a froggy, croaky chorus of lovely, joyous humans singing out with their hearts full of a simple splendor and their spirits burnished bright...wyt, imtt.
Despite it being a blues the triumph of love and joy is just overwhelming....This may be of interest BTW : facebook.com/groups/1530562813829624/ strangeattractor.co.uk/shoppe/muse-odalisque-handmaiden/
Great that the camera caught the intricate folk style guitar playing . Drawing from the same well as Fairport Convention , Pentangle and Donovan . As in centuries of British Isles ballads and lore .
The only band I've heard that was even close (i.e. magical) was Trapezoid, a string band from West Virginia, especially the band's incarnation of the mid-80's and 90's: Paul Reisler, Ralph Gordon, Freyda Epstein (died too young) and Lorraine Duisit. Typically, not always, the instruments were hammer dulcimer, viola, mandolin, and cello, a beautiful choice of instruments for an ensemble. Of course, It was very, very different from ISB music, but somehow reminded me, transported me the same way. And many later bands were definitely influenced by the Incredible String Band. The whole hippie movement, in a way, was somewhat the product of the imagery of the Incredible String Band's songs and the lyrics, especially the lyrics of Robin Williamson. ISB music was also about as eclectic as eclectic can be.
Thanks for the tip! I'm listening to one of their (rare?) recordings & it's true there's something that does remind me of the ISB! You MIGHT like this, too (although it's, of course different from the ISB): Älvstrandssång ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h6ee7yCzKEM.html
Going to see the ISB at the old Glasgow Concert Hall was a big deal.Everybody dressed up for the gig, it was a really happy time but sadly didnt last too long. Great performers.Saw reformed band a few years ago in Queens Hall Edinburgh,Nottingham and Telfers Lock Chester.,Still fun.
I was at the Edinburgh gig too! You may know that Rose has recently written a book about her time with the band . facebook.com/groups/1530562813829624/ on Sunday 13th December at 14.00 GMT. strangeattractor.co.uk/shoppe/muse-odalisque-handmaiden/
This song was on their first album and was written ( and sung ) by original member Clive Palmer, the fellow who took off before the second album was recorded.
I totally agree Sweet Paula. By the way, you’re RU-vid inbox I believe is Google+. They practically force you to have a Google+ account to retrieve your EM’s or perhaps you can get them in your Gmail. Very confusing company. Lol
Are you really the real Licorice? If so i’m very honored to hear from you. Are you ok fB as well? Or instagram? I hope so. I must check. Have a wonderful day/night sweet woman!
ONE OF MY FAVORITE EARLY BANDS...I WAS PLAYING THEIR FIRST VINYL ON THE RECORD PLAYER WHILE I MADE CANDLES IN A HIPPIE COMMUNE ON VALENCIA STREET IN THE MISSION DISTRICT OF SANFRAN BACK IN 1967 APPROX. ...I LIVED IN CANADA & STILL DO ON THE WEST COAST...;)
I love Licorice and Rose. I think Rose may be no longer with us unfortunately, due to very suspicious mysterious circumstances. But thank goodness Licorice is still with us, hopefully joyful healthy and in peaceful grace.
I saw this band in 1970 or 71. I though I was too high and that is why their music made no sense. Now I know better. They had an elf with them who was interesting as he wandered through the balcony. Of did they? Scott
