With this randomly showing up in Recommendeds, I just want to say a big thank you to everyone watching. This took a lot of effort to make, and it was absolutely a labor of love. I very much appreciate everyone's comments. Take care fellow Gearheads!
It's was year 2012 me and my friend played killzone and army of two on ps3 Before it ,I have never played shooters on the console , it was too hard for me to change from keyboard After we finished everything on ps3 , my friend said that he had xbox and loved halo when he was a kid and I dreamed for years to play gears of war 2. Then I bought xbox 360 and both our dreams come true We completed all halo and gears games. So basically for me gears were sistem seller.
As a massive Gearhead, I can appreciate the trip down memory lane of the greatness of this franchise. The voice acting was unparalleled, the characters were memorable and lovable, the devs did a great job really setting a personality for each of them and the music is often undermentioned when it comes to the franchise's success in story telling.
19:05 Baird in Gears of War 4 & 5: _"[Kills a Juvie] Juvies are why I never had kids."_ _"[Kills a Pouncer] See this? This is why I never liked dogs."_
The voice acting was a highlight of the campaign, I played them all multiple times to enjoy the banter between them. I'm glad to see someone bring attention to this aspect of the game as it brought a charm to the games, gears wouldn't be the same without it
I knew the scene before clicking on the time stamp. For me, this is really what typified GOW as a story, experience and a game, in its gritiness and realism: Going deep into Nexus with Santiago to find Maria (and others), to end her suffering -- one way or the other...for it to only be 'the other'. The scene with Tai is another memorably haunting scene too. Damn, I love GOW2.
@@christhepolymath3466 well, that's just one of the ways. Another way to kill a Brumak is to keep throwing bullets into it. And where's the one place known to be its weak spot other than the tank on it's back. The face.
@@parkerp1ayz I'm not sure. I don't know if the developers intended for that exact metaphor to be represented by that scene. I think it's more supposed to be that here's this dude who appears to survive anything that gets thrown his way, no matter how devastating, and yet, even he was brought to the breaking point by the torturring wrought by the Locust. It's meant to show just how horrid their methods are, and their absurd desperation and determination in a time of war. But, who knows, maybe they had the Brumak analogy in mind too -- that Tai was, ultimately, the only person who could bring about his own demise by shooting himself in the face (a Brumak's weak spot). Even in that sense though, the Locust are really the ones who brought about his demise, by damaging him mentally to the degree that he took his own life.
When I was younger I never noticed how good voice acting was. But in the past two or so years I ended up wanting to be a voice actor. Been playing the games recently again with a friend because Gears is one of our favorite games. I realized just how great the voice acting is in this game series. Never have I wanted to be more of a Voice actor until I replayed Halo 1-Reach and Gears 1-5.
I remember just before Gears 2 came out, I found out about the Gears books that take place (mostly) in between the games, and it opened that world so much for me. I was surprised at first by how consistently the characters were written in those novels, I could often tell who was talking just by what they were saying and how they were saying it, it was like when reading them, I could practically hear Marcus, Dom, Cole, Baird and everyone else in my head whilst reading them, it was so true to the games. The fact that the characters were so defined, so well crafted that an author was able to carry that over into a literary work just goes to show the Epics insane level of attention to detail and mastery of the craft.
@@carlosbaroni1158 "Man I puke my guts out on those things every time." "Guess you're sitting next to Marcus then." .... "Man, if Cole used to puke on a Raven, he must be tagging the walls with chuke right now." Appreciate the recognition!

@@jamesconley4107 woah. didnt know there was this many books. wish i was older so i wouldnt be catching up so much but ima always be in love with this franchise.
I started playing Gears when my dad introduced me one day when I was visiting him back in 2008. While I was getting my ass kicked fighting against him and my brother, I instantly fell in love the series! It was my first Xbox game ever played and it will be the last! Obviously I have my favorites. And Dom takes that role beyond the level of a favorite character. Okay yes, we share the same name lol, but that isn’t JUST the reason. 😂😅 It’s not just his amazing personality and humor. While our lives are most obviously different and our struggles are all in all a different story, I feel as though we share the same goals. Dom wants to be able to see his wife again... I want to be able to see my mom and siblings again. And yes.....it emotionally scarred me for life when he died, I can’t lie. 17 years old and I’ll still breakdown when I see the scene. And while his story is over, I know damn well mine isn’t. He’ll remain in my heart forever.
Props to everyone that was a part of the game. They gave every character personality, they made you like alot of the characters, the characters didn't feel stale. They did a fantastic job telling the story the writers and voice actors did a great job giving off that emotion it just felt so real... nothing felt pushed or unrealistic in a way. There is so many memorable moments this game will always have special place in my heart
Dude these games put me in my feels nowadays. Just takes me back to when I was younger and had no worries in my life but playin Xbox with my friends. I played through all the gears campaign with people I care about as a kid and gears 5 with the JD death reaction of Marcus actually made me cry. A video game, made a grown ass marine, cry. I love these games and I will support them for as long as they make them.
I still think the writing staff didnt give themselves enough credit on Gears of War 1 when it was mocked heavily for it's setting. Despite the fact that most casual players I talk to, can name most characters without looking them up. Which is a commendable feat of character writing to leave that kind of imprint. I used to view myself as a bit of fuck up. Always trying to appease some of my peers but it left me emotionally abused by some relatives. And over time, I understood why I loved the Carmine family so much. They are the kind of people who want to prove themselves and may not have the brave as others in Delta Squad. But despite being inexperienced. They still tried and were ultimately worshipped by my 11, 13, and 16 year old self. Benjamin Carmine and later Clayton are almost self Insert character for my personality traits. I know it is cringy to state, but that is how I ultimately feel. And I would play Gears 2, 3 and Judgement for years with Bots because I loved the series that much. I am 25 now, and Clayton Carmine strangely developed like I have as a person. I am an Uncle too, with a lovely niece who I cherish the pictures of her. I am still an emotional person, but I do not allow some of peers to berate or guilt trip my decisions. I am sometimes viewed as a bit naive and childish. But I feel like I can be on better terms with myself. Michael Gough, his voice is what made the Carmine family a true form of the inexperienced and frightened character. Which is interesting to me, because in the franchise, Benjamin Carmine has the most overt amount of expressed fear when fighting the Locust. False bravado when he seemingly has the temporary upperhand. While at the same time, his childish glee when succeeding at something that is second nature to others. Ben became a hero in my eyes. Willing to show he is scared but desire for courage. (Granted that same desire for courage is what ultimately kills him). Now as a 25 year old, I have Clayton Carmine. The toughest of the brothers but one who is a very tragic figure within his family. Destined to spend the rest of his life as unkillable. While his brothers and now niece have been taken by Locust and Swarm. All of his Gears 5 dialogue has me howling with laughter and strive for personal perfection. "Practice every day." (I am about to graduate with a Creative Writing Degree, so I do try to write every day to keep myself motivated). I love the Gears of War franchise. And will cherish it to my dying breathe. It was there for me to escape the stress of youth of an emotionally abusive mother, brash father, and without legitimate friendships until I went to college. It was there for me in the worse times of my life. Huh, here I go writing a stream.of consciousness about the Gears of War franchise. Totally worth it.
Thank you for your story brother. I have had a similar experience with gears of war. I’m 26, and have been playing since gears 1 back in 2006. It was my first ever Xbox 360 game that my father got me. In fact he got me a 360 just so I could play gears of war. Sadly my father passed away in 2009, now and very time I play gears I think of him. This franchise is far more than just a game. As you and I (and I’m sure many others) have experienced, gears of war is an escape. I will love gears of war forever.
Lmao I forgot about that one. And Cole says, "Man, stuff like this is good for you -- builds your immune system." Then Baird says, "Yeah, it also builds disease."
Cant believe this took so long to get recommended to me...been playing gears since i was 6 yrs...i appreciate the effort you have put into this video. Thank you:)
As a massive fan of this franchise. This video honestly made me smile, laugh and cry. Thank you for making this, and giving Gears the appreciation it deserves in terms of voice acting and storytelling ❤️
As a huge gears fan since day one this was the best 30+ mins of my day and brought back so many memories playing the games and even more appreciation for the voice acting especially baird he is my favorite character
Like you I’ve played the campaigns of each game multiple times, and I have to agree, this game has some of the best voice acting I’ve seen. Even if I like some games over others, the voice acting is always top notch in every game. Along with the multiplayer, characters bantering like when they pick up a meat shield or a weapon. I think I have favorite voice lines from each character, campaign and multiplayer. My top favorite is when a locust picks up a weapon and just says, “Shiny”. Thank you for making this and also for appreciating the stellar voice acting!
Some of my favorite voice lines are honestly the things Marcus says when picking up ammo/weapons. Things like “nice” “don’t mind if I do” “Oh I was looking for this” They just make me laugh, Lol
2019 was 5 years ago!? That’s crazy man. Getting old is weird. I was in high school. Finished my first two years of college, Elden ring DLC just came out, the next Gears game was announced, Metal Gear Solid 3 and Silent Hill 2 are getting remakes. I just started playing Gears 1 with my girlfriend for the first time, hopefully we can play them all down the road.
Not gonna lie Griffin's Voice Actor (Ice T i beleive) Did a pretty spectacular job I can truly feel aggression Griffin feels that he had everything, then the strikes came, saw an oppotunity and built a thriving community only to be ruined by the same people who put him down the first time. And its not that he's just rambling because he is pissed, but he is telling it how it is, that the COG really do go messing peolle's lives up by how the manage the people and really dont care since nobody is really doing any enforcement Like imagine someone saying "Oh yeah, we understand but..." Oh wait, that's what Anya tried to do in the briefing exchange
Man, how come I didn’t find this before! This is an absolute work of art, so many memories etched in those games, made me shed a tear for Dom and Marcus again
Thank you so much for this man, it brought back so many childhood memories. Still can't understand why can't the new Gears games be as memorable as the old ones.
@@christhepolymath3466 No problem! I hope you can make another one of these. I guess you can say it our nostalgia for the old ones but I don't thinks so. I mean Marcus, Dom, Baird and Cole were a much better team than JD, Faz, Dell and Kate were. The old delta squad each had strong deep personality traits to them and each had a reason they were fighting for while the new delta squad were just there for the sake of fighting to get rid of the swarm and no other reason (well except Kate who had bigger role). The swarm don't give a sense of danger and fear like the locust did back then I mean they don't have a big boss like Raam and no queen so there kind of just pushovers compared to the locust.
@@alio6051 Yeah I find a lot of things lacking in the new games when comparing them to the old ones. I just might having something cooking in the oven right now ;)
They absolutely need to make a remaster of the original trilogy (I know they remastered Gears of War 1 already but it would still be awesome) and I guess add judgment to this remaster
Trey Thomas Honestly I’m surprised to hear that, I, glad don’t get me wrong. I still remember my first time playing GoW 1 and going to buy 2. Such a fantastic series to grow up to, glad you got to experience it also, considering a lot of younger ones overlooking it
@@Trey_.z Nah man, played it for about a week for the campaign, couldn’t stand the multiplayer. Actually been playing a lot of 3 recently, nice to get back to the old days
@@rule6090 yea I play it, the new operation coming is very nice. I don’t know if u seen it, but river and ruins are coming back, gears 2 classics babyyyyy
To this day I remember my reaction to doms death I knew it was coming after Maria died either him or carmine were gonna die but once I saw the title “brothers to the end” it all but clinched it, I was sitting in my chair watching the cutscene believing I saw a blue light showing that dom jumped I was hoping so badly to see him rescue Marcus at the end I kept hoping and wishing he would come back but once the credits rolled I knew it was permanent no dom no happy ending nothing it’s very rare a game can make you feel genuine sadness and remorse but that’s just how good the original trilogy was I’ve been a gearhead since 2 and likely will never stop
Dude the disparity in the quality of your videos and your sub count is unbelievable. Your content is amazingly high quality, and you deserve more subs.
I first played through the series in 2019 and I absolutely fell in love with the game! The setting is awesome, voice acting is incredible, and all the characters have amazing personalities. It’s one of my top 5 favorite gaming franchises ever!
That is awesome man. I'm really glad to hear that this incredible series is still being discovered by new gamers to this day. Thanks for checking out the vid!
@@christhepolymath3466 You bet man, great job on finding some pretty good honorable mentions, pretty good editing too. Glad to be amongst the Gears finally!
Man I loved these games playing through them for the first time .. hell I still love going back and playing them all over again! When dom died man I was so shocked I remember I paused my game and just stared at my tv for like ten mins trying to process it and It also made me think of dropping the game but glad I didn’t
I feel that man. Thanks for commenting and checking out the vid. I'm glad it inspired you to open up. The original trilogy really was something special.
The Gears of War games are the best EVER! Nothing comes close and i've never been so upset that I nearly cried when a character dies as I did when Dom did!
If they ever make a gears movie they need to cast batista for Marcus Fenix gears of war is my second favorite game franchise along with halo and dead space
Replaying all the games on insane with my buddy right now and it didn’t really occur to me until now how good of a character and leader Hoffman is. He was spiteful towards Marcus at the start because of what he did but in gears 3 he really cared about what Marcus had to say and how he feels about it, especially in that truck ride.
