Yeah. The wire review look rather opportunistic and desperate. Among the left leaning portals Scroll gave a slightly more objective review.

The wire gave it quite a negative review. If all you want to read is stuff that strengthens your echo chamber, then perhaps this isn't the best book.

@@varundas6183 Mate echo chamber is not something I want. The reason I asked the question was coz I'll might as well directly read ppl of the other side of the spectrum than reading a crypto's work. Basically I can read Ram Guha(and I've read him extensively) instead of a double agent.

U have to understand the non left or right wing in India is not monotonous or homogenous we are quite different I am a social liberal and economical conservative my father is traditional and socialist my brother is a believer my sister is an atheist and we all are nationalist . We the non left are generally free thinkers so we should have larger perspective.

Maratha Confedracy, Peshwas, gaikwads in Baroda, shinde and holkar in MP. Not a single unit. Unanswerable to Pune Peshwas. Then there was Tipu Sultan, Travancore, Tanjavur Maratha Kingdom, Nayakars of Madurai, of course also the mighty Sikh Empire. British EIC fought and defeated everyone of them

True that the Marathas controlled a lot of land. But the feudal structure was intact which was still under islamic instruments. This is a criticism I have of the Marathas. They never really took power. They never sat on the throne in Delhi. If they would have done that, we might have had a less anxious Muslim population. For the sake of practicality and logistical reasons the capital was still essentially in Pune. Bajirao had enough chances himself to dethrone the mughals. This is just my perspective and a counterfactual

Great ending comment on challenging oneself .... Keep up the good work.. P.S. do you really need the RU-vid subscription money? I'm curious a person of your calibre and range of projects (for which you should definitely lay out a plan and ask for money) I can understand dhruv rathi find use of subscription money (no disrespect, but poor kid's probably smitten by the gig economy bug). A project helps, Akash Banerjee got a shit load for his proposed relief work and God bless him and empower him to carry out good use of all the money. I'm sure you can do a great deal of good.. lay down a project man, we are on your side, but you as conservatives. So we like a bit of protocol, documentation and planning. Images of tear soaked migrant families and a wishful thinking of trying to 'help' them isn't enough to make a run on conservatives purses. Think about it buddy!

Reminds me of Slavish Anglophile like Nirad Chaudhary.Many aspects have very loose thinking.British won India not from the Mughals but from the Rajputs,Marathas and the Sikhs. I would prefer Shashi Tharoor anyday compared to this. And secondly , I am sorry but what has Indians produced in the English language. Nothing . If someone calls the softporn written by Khushwant Singh as literature then he has no idea about literature. Both the English language and the English culture need to be thrown out for a renaissance to occur in India. Reasons for that are well provided by VS Naipaul himself in A wounded civilization.
