This was a great segment and I loved it. The “organic” look of the watches does remind me of corral or deep sea topography. It also gives the impression of a heavy patina of a watch found under the Titanic! His style would pair well with meteorite as they’re both other worldly, I wonder if he has used it before. Custom dial makers for the next?
Mr Biver, never get bored of him talking. He always makes sense. Rene Beyer as he and his family has sold thousands of watches and love to know his opinions about the most stunning pieces he has had the pleasure to sell and John Mayer because he is the most iconic watch collector and an insane collection. And last but not least John Goldberger as he has the most rarest collection of watches on the planet.
Mrs. Carole Kasapi Forestier please! Huge fan of her work and completely underrated. Mrs. Eva Leube also cool when the pandemic is over, her Ari watch is intriguing!
mind blown by the close ups... i had already seen a model of his on your instagram a while ago but it is even more impressive ! a litteral world is sitting in those watches. Thank you Marco !
This is what craftsmanship is all about. Pure respect to him. Hopefully he'll be able to pass down these skills to the next generation. Everything he made is stunning.
One of my favorit people in the watch world. Humble, down to earth and a true artist. I wish all the luck to Kees, he’s definitely a dragon in what he does.
I‘m a watchmaker working for one of the big companies BUT I‘m building my workshop right now to create beautiful time pieces like Kees! Very inspirational. Thank you and i hope i will be able to show my piece at your show
Good luck with the lotto, let me know if you won. I'm glad I did get up at 4:00 too although I fell asleep in the train and missed a connection in Lausanne and woke up in Montreux... but it was definitely worth it
as an artist my self i loved hearing this guy so much and i think he is a truly passioante artist, and to be honest this is the fisrt time to see watches in different way, these pieces are true art and passione and imagination, he should be teaching about that as well , it was a more of an art lecture, ,this is beautiful, art is in everything,
Beautiful, Aesthetics out of this World! His Passion and Craftsmanship are One of a kind in the World, by the Interview his love and purity is brought upon his outstanding craftsmanship in the Watch World! Thanks for the Blog!
Kees Engelbarts is a amazing talented and very kind and open Artist and person . I really admire his work and craftsmanship, really looking forward to visit his workshop some day 🙏🏻. Thank you both for this great episode 🤗
The best ever skeletonize watches ...simple minimalist yet the arts is beyond expectations...this is great way better than the most “common” watch nowadays....it’s just great.,,also my type cup of tea for sure...😁😁😁
Ladies and gentleman, this is the best watch channel on RU-vid. If you are passionate about watches, it's just not about talking and reviewing the hype watches. Showing us something completely different about watches is what this channel is and something no other watch channel does. Bravo Marko, I love the content and always see and learn something new, even for me as a experienced and long time hobbyist. Oh btw, the watches are stunning. Pure decorative and visual artisan.
INSANE is the correct word for these art pieces, these watches show that horology combines, arts, science, and engineering in one small piece. Thanks for the always unique and awesome content :D 👍👍👍👍👍
Watched it all the way through and realized this is exactly what I've been wanting in some new pieces. One of those pieces speaks volumes to me and I will be purchasing one like it.
Wow, what an incredible video. Something I didn’t know about, amazing interview, really interesting guest, and some real artistic expression in watchmaking. Kees has a new fan in me and hopefully one day, a new customer. This was awesome, please more of this (of course take all the time you need tho, This was such a high caliber guest!)
This is where art, technology and philosophy meet... in one man, Mr. Kees Engelbarts. I especially liked his story about carp transforming himself into a dragon. Not choosing to engrave his name on the front face of his unique watches shows his utmost respect and love for his art. He probably considers it defiling to do such a thing!
Wow. Thanks for sharing such amazing content. The fact that artisans like Kees exist, yet economic structures push us towards mass production says everything about what’s wrong with the world. Keep up the good work.
This is unbelievably beautiful and unique...I am still in awe...and guess what? I am not a fan of skeleton watches...now I would love to have one that looks like one of his creations!
I live the Passion and the Artwork on the beautiful watches from Kees Engelbarts👍👌 Where can I find the second video from the visit in the shop from Kees Engelbarts?
I don't think he is an alternetive competitor, the only reason why patek dosen't have to be afraid is he can't produce only a few pieces per year, but I'm sure he can steal some customer from patek, his timepeaces are all piece unique and customizable, he is also a competitor just on an other level
Marko, I am a Seiko guy, love that this gentleman had been influenced by Japanese culture, so this interview was right out there my cup of tea. I am also covered in Japanese tattooing, lol. My dream is to go to the Seiko Factory, and to Kyoto for Samurai training. This gentleman make amazing watches, which I don't think I can afford. I enjoyed this video.
Great watches, a great engraver and a really fun, honest, and down to earth guy. The only unfortunate downside you will have to come to terms with is that the resale value won't be there if you were to purchase them for their retail prices. Therefore, you are making a conscious effort to lose a significant sum of money if you were to purchase them at retail. However, they would be excellent pick-ups on the secondary market and would sell for perhaps half the price. I know the Gronefeld Tourbillon he engraved can be picked up for $120k-130k USD. It is a hard value proposition to buy one of these when you can buy that for such a great price. With all that being said, I would take one of those over any Patek any day even if it was a tourbillon/repeater. No one would care about your Patek, no matter how complicated, if you walked into a room with one of his skeleton tourbillons on your wrist.
You might be right and you might be wrong about the value argument. My grand-dad taught me that the value of something is the price that a fool is willing to pay. I'm not saying that my customers are fools, on the contrary. I have to put a price tag on my work and do that as honest as possible by calculating time and material. This being said, my watches are unique and therefore extremely rare so logically the price might as well go up. Most of my customers are extremely happy with the watch I made for them and I don't think they buy to re-sell but because the love my work. As I said in the interview, my work is my hobby and I'm glad that my hobby permits me to make a living. Alas, I cannot make cheap watches because that would mean that I have to make concessions to the quality and that's something I don't want, and therefore don't choose, to do. That's my choice and luckily for me, most of my customers understand that. I hope my answer makes sense, I'm gonna make myself a cup of tea ;-)
@@MrKeesengelbarts I love the work. I just hope I can pour you some whiskey, get you drunk and have you "accidentally" you to sell me a watch for a ridiculous discount one day.
Wow I want all of these! Now I just need to win the lottery! Should not be that hard. But seriously amazing stuff! And actually the prices are reasonable for the amount of time, talent and inspiration that is put into those pieces of art. And they even tell the time as a bonus 🤣
